FOR MORE REVIEWS ABOUT CARD GAMES, CHECK OUT OUR CURATOR PAGE: CARD GAME KING or TWITTER
Space, deckbuilding and conquering systems sounds like a winner combination. Unfortunately, the current design hides a rather lackluster deckbuilding experience behind a minimal effort to actually teach the game. Even before diving into the subpar gameplay, learning how to play it is a chore in itself. The tutorial is one-pager trying to explain key concepts which is difficult to grasp without context (it's not helping that it uses different terminology for draw, discard etc). What's worse, in game it's not possible to access the tutorial unless you quit to the main menu and there are 0 tooltips for clarifying parts of the game. If you take the time to learn the game through patience you are rewarded with gameplay that demands more of it. Like most deckbuilders, you draw cards from your deck each turn, that give you some temporary resources, most valuable of which is prestige which you use for buying cards or conquering parts of the galaxy. Two big problems quickly become apparent: frequent dead turns and essentially dead end runs. With prestige points you can attack or buy cards. However, since there is a deck limit, you can quickly only be left with one option - attack. If you don't draw the right cards (e.g. attack and the right amount of prestige), then you usually can't do ANYTHING useful on your turn aside from ending it. Which brings to the next large issue, the deck limit. Once you hit it you can't get more cards - what this means is that if you don't recruit any cards that banish cards from your deck, you are stuck with what you have which can happen really fast. You might find out that your deck is not strong enough to contest conquering and then it's essentially game over without the game over screen. Conquering territories increases the deck size but if you don't have a good deck to begin with you're not conquering anything. Additionally, the game keeps throwing useless cards at you, making an already frustrating mechanic even worse. Once you understand what the game wants from you, it becomes rather straightforward, albeit, sluggish path to victory with very few interesting decisions. It essentially boils down to maximizing prestige and attack to be able to conquer territories, with occasional banish and deck draw. Because the AI has an easier time with conquer, it can become a prolonged game of whack-a-mole, where the recently conquered territory gets conquered back the next turn.
The positive
+ Idea of deck-building and conquest in space is awesome. + Free.
The neutral
* Music feels out of place. Thankfully, it can be muted in game.
The negative
- Awful tutorial with little help in-game. - Shallow gameplay. Not many tactical decisions to make. It's most rince&repeat. - Deck limit size. Without banish, it's easy to get stuck with a bad deck with no way out. - Dead turns. Because there is lack of different ways to use resources, you can often be stuck with not enough resources to do anything but end your turn.
Conclusion:
It has shallow gameplay that is hard to get into due to the poor tutorial. It seems there is a campaign mode planned, but the game needs much more work and more varied ways to use resources before it becomes worth the time investing into learning it.

I had a good time playing it. Parts of it are definitely not polished, and I wish you could save 10 card decks instead of having to redo it every time you want to use those cards. Spawn locations are a bit too varied, as you can spawn right on top of the enemy or a good distance away. Decent deckbuilding game, worth taking a look at although it takes a couple of games to get use to and the tutorial is alright but hard to grasp. That is all I have to say, good time
It needs a real tutorial to understand how to play the game
Hükümetinizi temsil edecek bir kart destesi planlayın ve inşa edin, ardından orduyu harekete geçirmek ve savaşan yıldız sistemlerini siyasi ideolojinizin yol gösterici ışığı altında birleştirmek için oluşturduğunuz yapıyı kullanın.
Falling as Lightning is a sci-fi themed cardgame/deckbuilder where you build a small deck and play cards to determine the outcome of a sci-fi future empire. The game has a text based browser/Flash tier interface. The lack of polish and heavily lacklustre interface is representative of the game itself, and while there's some clever ideas, this is not just an asset flip or a cash grab, the quality is very poor. The text based interface is a huge let down, but this lack of quality and production value permeates the gameplay as well. There's potential in the idea, but as is the case with so many indie games, it can't be realised without proper budget and staff to create a minimum acceptable production value. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises.
