Factor Y feels like a very early Alpha of factorio. Both in the sense that it feels like a very early protoype, and very much not ready for release, not even anywhere close to Early Access. And also in the sense that it is a very obvious clone of factorio, down to having the same 3.2 second smelting time for iron and copper plates (and yes there is iron, copper, stone and coal to mine). Most egregiously, the most basic action in this game is difficult to do - placing buildings. There is no hotbar you can set up, you have to always click through the item categories to get to the specific entity you want to build using either the function keys, or clicking on the categories with the mouse. So smething as simple as "placing a belt, then an inserter" means having to click through the categories again. To be fair, there is a pipette tool (right mouse button) which helps a lot, but it cannot completely make up for selection of what entity to build taking too many clicks. Deleting buildings is also awkward. You have to mouse over and press delete, or click on a building and then the delete icon. A simple to use delete like holding right click in factorio would be a lot smoother. Overall, the UI/UX is just atrocious. It is not ready for being released. Information is difficult to find, and when you find it the presentation is very much not user friendly (example: progress bars are literally done using ascii art!). There are only 2 positives i can come up with at this point: The music is kinda intriguing, might be a love or hate thing but personally more on the love side. And the game is very cheap. I don't think it justifies the quality of the game so far, but it would be a lot worse if it was more expensive. Overall, despite being so cheap, it's just absolutely not worth it. Just get factorio instead (or start another playthrough), or shapez 2. Factor Y is just an obvious, and at this point very lacking copy of factorio. Maybe this game will get better in the future, but you should not buy games based on promises or potential and right now it is simply not worth it. Stay away, and maybe come back in a year or two to see if anything changed.
It's almost as though someone took an early version of factorio and made it as complicated as possible. Controls are very unintuitive, setting things up is awkward and has a lot of extra unnecessary steps; I'd like to see buildings able to be directly interacted with, rather than finding the settings in menus in opposite corners of the screen, selecting the setting you want, then clicking on the building. It just seems like a lot of extra steps hunting for settings, just to specify something simple. The module system shows promise but just didnt work even though I followed the instructions exactly. I understand this game is early access but even though, I think it was released just a bit too soon. I will definitely try this game again when a newer version comes out and I may revise my review but for now, I'm afraid its a no.
I don't really like leaving negative reviews on early access games, and I really tried to like this one, but the UX is just preventing me from having fun. There's definitely a lot of systems and potential and interesting mechanics, but the controls make all of that unfun. I'd very much recommend the developer take a look how belt building in Factorio works, even around very simple things like trying to place a rotated belt over an existing one, or drag-placing belts. It's small things, but without these it just leaves the player constantly frustrated as they're building the base. It's difficult to recommend this game regardless of how intricate its advanced systems may be, simply because playing it is not enjoyable due to UI/UX reasons. It's not just a visual things, even though better visuals would help, it's the painfulness of basic interactions when building the base.
A solid game and really fun if these sort of things scratch an itch. Active development and the dude's on Discord. Blueprint modules need to be better and the tech tree is a bit shallow. I saw zero bugs (as one would hope with a Rust program). Look out Factorio, when this goes 1.0 in 8 years like you did it'll be great!!
This game shows promise, but I can't say I would recommend it right now based on what all the other reviews are saying. The main point for me is the UX which is a disaster. Thankfully, it can be fixed and I trust the developer to do so. This is, in my opinion, the highest priority because the current UX will lead SO MANY players away, and even the ones that stay (like me) will end up not progressing that far because of how much of a hassle it is to do anything (build things, change building settings, create modules (this really needs a lot of extra work, there is already interesting discussion in the forums)). Basically I'll follow along the updates and make sure to update my recommendation accordingly.
The game is very interesting. The pdf guide in the description is mandatory reading since there's currently no in-game tutorial. I'm really enjoying it, even though there's a lot of rough edges so far (very early Early Access). Looking forward to seeing where the game goes!
I'd give this game a middling review if I could, but I wouldn't want to steer someone away from it, so I'm giving it a positive. Honestly it feels like a great foundation for a game, but it also feels way way too early. The UI is functional, but not intuitive. Same for the controls, some things (like shift selecting or drag placing) feel odd, as there is like, a delay for when things get placed or selected (I know that doesn't make a ton of sense, but I think most things are happening off of key release rather than key press, which feels strange). I didn't make it very far, only completely t1 research and setting up for t2. I'll still probably play more of the game, as it is is definitely enjoyable, but it does feel more like playing a pre-alpha version rather than an EA release. The struggle of 1 item 1 belt in a 2d game is pretty fun, and forces you to lay out some factories that are fundamentally different from how you might do it in factorio, which is really nice. The lack of 'hand crafting' for different parts creates its own unique challenge. I've really enjoyed creating an expanding mall to build out the factory. The lack of tutorial is kind of rough, since even with the manual creating a module (blueprint ) is a little confusing. The purpose of ticks in module creation isn't made clear anywhere other than to simulate steps, but it's unclear as to why that matters once it's placed in the world. Sorry for the rambling review. I do think the game is worth grabbing if you like Factorio, DSP, or Satisfactory and would like more factory goodness. It's not nearly as polished, but it offers enough newness to be worth playing around with.
Excellent Game, the more you play the more it sucks you in. A nice unique take on a resource manager. The module (blueprint) building is a great piece of this game.
I always love factory games, I don't even know why but I do :-) Very cool again
i had difficulty getting game to start up but devloper helped me get it up and running seems. in terms of suppor 10 out of 10 i recommend. please keep in mind this is early access so people you need to adjust your prospective.
