Extra Coin

This was fine. If I could give it a thumbs sideways, I would, but the negatives outweigh the positives. The good: Pixel art and vibes. The atmosphere is well executed and the game looks great visually. The bad: All the mini games were exactly the same, and none of them were good. They basically all revolve around quicktime events. The meh: The story was basically every other Sword Art Online, Ready Player One-like. It had some nice flourishes. I liked the story about the parents and the grandfather for the most part, but it didn't make sense in a lot of ways, and didn't really have much to say outside of the typical "don't escape to the virtual world because you don't like reality". The main "game" was kind of fun, but it's basically tennis, which seemed weird when you think about the fact that in the story THIS is the game that everyone is leaving their reality for. Really? a tennis sim? Also it was way too easy up until the last boss battle. Additionally the rpg elements and power ups didn't seem to do a whole lot, so there wasn't really much to grind for. At some point I just decided to finish the story since I was steamrolling everyone anyways.

On the one hand, Extra Coin has an engaging narrative, fantastic pixel art, enjoyable music, a fun squash battle mechanic and a sprinkling of okay minigames. On the other, it has writing that can sometimes be a little hard to follow, items that are unnecessary both in terms of their mechanical and cosmetic uses and some "your choice will be remembered" type popups that I'm fairly sure were there to give the illusion of narrative weight, rather than to indicate a character would actually treat you differently going forward. While not every element of Extra Coin hits its mark, I'd say the pros outweigh the cons, and I certainly enjoyed my time with the game enough to play through its final boss run three times to see all the endings. It's an earnestly made game with a good runtime and a very fair price for the amount of game you're getting. Definitely worth picking up if the story and aesthetics of it appeal to you.

Beautiful short-ish game with a compelling and surprisingly deep story located within a virtual world. The story is really enjoyable and it's pretty linear for those who like that, however there are some collectibles and side-achievements for those who enjoy the completitionist aspect. The minigames are pretty enjoyable for the most part and they don't get too repetitive since there is a good variety of them and the duels were my favorite part gameplay wise. Overall, the game is great (especially since it's so cheap!) and I definitely recommend for both players who want a good narrative story and those looking to explore every secret the game has to offer.

This game wasn't for me but it's still well made. The advertising doesn't emphasize it but the main gameplay mechanic is a tennis minigame, it's how you combat NPCs. Personally I did not enjoy this, and each match is really long. I tried to stick it out because I'm invested in the story, but video game tennis is just not my thing and it wore me down. But I really enjoyed the other half of the game, walking around the world and learning the story was great. The set design and art style are really cool.

This game deserves much more credit than it gets, what a truly hidden gem! The story is so deep and meaningful, the characters and character development are great! I loved the minigames, mechanics, exploration and CyoA aspects, the little side-missions the game gives to you, seriously, great pacing and, aside of all of that, there are even more to do after the main story ends, so yeah, I guess there wasn't anything I disliked in this game. Played in 4 hours and it felt like it was 15 mins. What a fun game.

Va GENIAL 🏅Nota a nivel técnico: 90/100 🏅Nota como experiencia y disfrute: 55/100 👍🏻 PROS: - HISTORIA: Son de esos juegos que según empiezan te atrapan. Historia emotiva. - PERSONAJES: con carisma y personalidad. Geniales - GRÁFICOS: Pixelart deliciosos. Detallados y coloristas. Muy muy bonitos 👎🏻 CONTRAS: - HISTORIA: Empieza potente y te atrapa, pero pasado un tiempo te sientes estancado perdiendo el interés. Llega un punto que llevas varias horas haciendo bucles sin parar y sin avanzar en la narrativa. Una pena. - JUGABILIDAD: Al principio genial, pero cuando llevas más de 65 bucles o loops y ves que no avanzas en la historia, los minijuegos se hacen repetitivos y los combates se limitan a mismas partidas de "tenis", acabas aburrido como una ostra, abandonando el juego. Por ello, y con dolor, no aconsejo el juego.

A fun narrative adventure that doesn't outstay its welcome. I'm glad it didn't skip me by.
