So far I've been having a blast at the game! Exodemic offers much deeper strategic gameplay than is immediately obvious. There's only three buttons and the concept's simple enough but success requires prioritisation and strong tactical application of your upgrade powers. Challenging, fun and super replayable. Exodemic's a terrific and unique roguelike top-down shooter. Really love the tactical three-button approach. The random upgrade and world generation spells tons of variety and infinite replayability. Saw Splattercat play this on his channel and I agree with him, this is underrated at the moment. Fun little roguelite with a lot of fresh ideas and quite some tactical decisions makes it interesting.
A fun and frantic roguelite that becomes EXTREMELY satisfying as you layer on the augments. For $4 it's an absolute steal.
Exodemic scratches an arcade space shooter itch, with great tempo beats of excitement while fighting, and strategic thought on the galaxy level when you're plotting your upgrades. The soundtrack puts you in the mood, and sound choices are informative without being overwhelming, it's actually quite impressive for such a small game. I loved finding the different combinations for modules, or attempting a run outside of my comfort zone with a different playstyle ship. There are a few nit-picky details I have about the UI- your first run through the galaxy is basically exploratory because the iconography is not explained anywhere, and its unclear you only get ONE upgrade/scrap/repair at stations until you buy it and find out otherwise- but the dev seems very receptive to feedback, and is active on their discord, so I suspect this will be remedied soon. Honestly, for 4 bucks, it's a great game that will challenge you on the harder difficulties, without feeling impossible. Well worth the pickup for that price, even if it doesn't update further. (but it looks like it will!)
Asteroids on steroids! Exo is a great mix between strategy ship builder and a fast paced shooter, gave me some 2-D Risk of Rain vibes? Snappy, satisfying combat, fast paced ship movement and decision making, I felt like my ship building choices were impactful in my runs, and my movement choices directly impacted my ability to beat wave timers. The modes feel challenging, definitely requires some practice and planning to beat the harder levels. I think the game could use a little bit of balancing, AOE feels incredibly strong, sometimes to the point of making levels instantly killable, and the path randomization can be unfair.
Very compelling gameplay loop that is also frustrating but also satisfying. It really itches and scratches like it knows what it's doing. I'd love to see more content though - more weapons, more badguys, more encounter types, all that.
Fun arcade like game, with a little FTL thrown in! It's the first game I've played on my steam deck and it ran and played great!
