Reviews
Updated review after the first patch on March 22nd. I really can't recommend buying this game at all (even though I kinda care about the game and had fun playing it). Sure the dev put a lot of effort into it and I wish them the best. The game itself is in a completable state BUT it feels extremely unfinished. Empty areas, random story that feels like it has no connections to anything, pointless skill and ability system etc. The game overall is maybe in an early access state but 100 % not in a completed 1.0 release state! I hope the dev updates the game a lot because currently I would say the game still needs like maybe 1 year of development before it could feel finished. So it feels like the entire game was rushed to get out there for what ever reason even though its not in a complete state. Please update the game a lot and if it did I gladly give it another look.
Pro:
- Combat animations are good - Combat itself is fun - Character models are good - Really good performance - Really good mouse and keyboard controls - Graphics are good enough - Arella has really good voice acting
Con:
- No Achievements - Story is really badly written, nothing made sense, nothing felt like it is connected and it's just all over the place - You are running from A to B a lot just to "think" and then you need to run all the way back to A... the game feels a lot like a walking simulator with some combat here and there. - There are cube puzzles which are not really puzzles because it's always the same and extremely easy (I found 41/42) and it's not even worth it getting them - Combat is extremely easy that you can spam literally all buttons and you will never die. - You can level some stats and get new abilities but I completed the entire game without doing it a single time because you are already overpowered. So the entire inventory and skill system can be removed and no one would notice. - Loading screen after starting the game is like 1.5 minutes and after you saved and continue the game later on the loading screen took me 32 seconds. - Voice acting is really not good. I'm not expecting perfection but most people haven't even tried to put some effort into it (except the one for arella). - Super low render distance which means you have to be super close to something to actually know if there is a chest or a enemy. - Niafell is one city with a lot of empty fields around it. The only things that fills those fields are like 5 chests that are 10m apart - Codrad has even less to offer than Niafell - Rotfen is a nearly big flat and empty swamp (only a lot of areas of enemies you need to kill) - Osmus is a huge empty desert even though the structures that are there are really cool - Hespela is also a big empty snow area, it has a bit more structures than Osmus but thats it. - Lunareth also an insanely huge island with an insane amount of empty fields even though visually it's the best area out of all - Celestfall an island with a big vulcano nothing else on it though.
Bugs/Issues:
- Starting the first conversation with Nymira is a bit inconsistent - For example at Nymira at the beginning if you can ask him multiple questions and you click anywhere else and not on one of the buttons you still triggers the button that is selected - After you save and come back later the Quest name and description is broken and shows "Quest_Name" and "Quest_Description" - After you talked with Nymira for the first time you save, leave the game and continue later the quest is broken and you can't interact or trigger anything at the floating red glowing structure. - In the video settings under resolution everything is listed 5 times - Chests that spawn from the cube puzzle can't be opened - Floating issue if you run and jump a slope up - Some cube puzzles didn't spawn a chest but I saw that at one of the other cube puzzle spots suddenly more chets appeared - In Niafell the quest where you bring back Bart and you trigger the cutscene your sword stays in the air where you stopped to trigger the cutscene while the character is doing it's set cutscene. - In the city in niafell everything is popping in and out and sometimes fails to load for multiple seconds so a fence is invisible - some of the stuff the characters said are not shown in the dialog - the G key for transforming doesn't work - Sound is really inconsistent and ignores the volume sliders - The chains in Osmus have no collision so you run just through them - At some point you land in Hespela (snow area) and if you interact with the train you see the animaton from the forgotten lands to Hespela. I haven't tried it but if the dev has not thought about it you can leave Hespela and might not be able to get back if you ignored the quest - Hespela corruption area is broken and can't be cleansed - In lunareth is a corruption area near a small lake and one human enemy is outside the area! - That one ending (no idea if there are multiple) with let me call it ship is totally buggy because it looks like the character is floating on water
Suggestion:
- Make it a single audio tab with all audio sliders in it and not 4 different ones. - Add an option for us to change the position of the camera a bit further away from the character - Add a button to skip dialogs/cutscenes (holding a button for 3 seconds or so)
I haven’t fully finished it yet, but so far the story is intriguing and keeps you curious. There are some minor bugs, but they didn’t affect my gameplay. I’ll update my review once I complete the story. Pros: -The graphics and atmosphere are very nice. Performance is excellent. -Combat mechanics feel great and are easy to get into. The fluid animations and seamless combat really stood out to me. -The decision making system is well done. Your quests change based on your choices. I haven’t tried every path yet, but I plan to replay and explore the other branches after finishing. -Skills feel smooth and unique. -There’s an elemental reaction system, with different combinations depending on your skills. -The music is good. Cons: -There are some minor issues in interface, but they didn’t impact my gameplay. -In the open world, you sometimes have to figure out what to do on your own. There’s often little to no guidance, so exploration is up to the player. -Unlocking skills takes a bit too long. After 2 hours of looting, I was only able to unlock 2 skills. It could be a bit easier. -The parry system is currently quite easy it could be more challenging.
Picked this up randomly and ended up not refunding it, which says a lot. It’s not perfect, but the gameplay loop is enjoyable and the combat feels good enough to keep going. You kinda have to make your own fun through exploration, which worked for me. Curious to see how it evolves.
Went in without expecting much, but this actually surprised me in a good way. The combat is easily the highlight. It’s fast, responsive, and just feels good to play. Animations flow nicely into each other, and chaining abilities feels smooth instead of clunky. The world has a nice vibe too. The open world can feel a bit empty at times and you’re mostly left to explore things on your own, but I personally enjoy that kind of discovery driven gameplay, so it worked for me. I think the game could benefit from a higher difficulty option though. Right now it feels a bit too easy, and adding more challenge would make the combat even more satisfying.
L'IA fait de très mauvais jeux PS2, Quand le générique a commencé j'ai cru que c'etait le début du jeu .... c'etait la fin
If you’re looking for a slower paced game where you can actually see what’s going on after all those recent games with fast chaotic combat, this might be for you. It has open ended potential and room to grow. Combat is satisfying, personally I wouldn’t mind having more skills though.
First of all, the game isn’t perfect, but it has strong potential and plenty of room to grow. When I come home from work tired, sit down at my computer, and feel like I have no energy for anything, I open this game and let myself sink into its simple yet passionately crafted world. There are some minor bugs, but they don’t affect my experience. Overall, the combat and skill system are very enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend giving it a chance.
You can really feel the passion behind this game. It’s always great to see indie developers creating unique experiences like this. It may not be perfect, but it has its own charm and is definitely worth supporting. If you enjoy seamless combat, this is definitely for you.
I think this was made by a single developer. You can definitely notice it in some of the rough edges, but is it fun? Absolutely. I really liked the skill system. The world could feel a bit more filled, but it’s still worth trying for sure. Looking forward to seeing it improve even more.
It just feels good to play, simple as that
