Everdine - A Lost Girl's Tale

An short RPG-Maker game about a girl who gets lost in the woods.(and is searching for her dog) The story can get a little dark when it comes to the fates of other lost travelers. Overall, the game is very atmospheric. Unfortunately, you learn very little about the main cast.

Everdine is a really pretty RPG Maker game with great music and art. It's called horror but feels more like a spooky fantasy adventure since it skips the cheap jump scares. You mostly solve puzzles and run from stuff, which is a lot of fun. The death scenes are really cool and make you want to find them all. The worst part is definitely the main villain. You learn absolutely nothing about them. It feels like the bad guy and their servants were just thrown in because the game needed an enemy. You have no idea who they are or why they are doing any of this. There's even a villain castle you never get to explore. Because of this, "random weird stuff" feel totally out of place. It's really hard to be scared when you don't even know what you're running from. Because the bad guy is so ignored, the endings feel pretty rushed. You meet a lot of cool people but they don't matter at the end. Only you and one other character change the outcome, so you never find out what happens to everyone else, which is a bummer. The story is easy to guess, but the good ending is still enjoyable. Even with the weak villain, it's a great example of how creative RPG Maker games can be, and I'd easily recommend it to anyone looking for a fun little adventure.
