1 visual novel, 2 seconds to adjust skip and speed, 3 activities to choose from, 4 achievements, 5 minute game.

Evening Surprise is a compact visual novel that proves a story does not need a lengthy runtime to leave an impression. Developed by Aleksandr Soldatov and Leonid Kozhushko and published by Aleksandr Soldatov, the game delivers a brief romantic narrative that combines lighthearted moments with emotional undertones and an unexpected twist. Designed to be completed in a single sitting, it focuses on storytelling rather than gameplay complexity, making it an accessible experience for both visual novel enthusiasts and newcomers to the genre. The story revolves around Max and his girlfriend Ann, a couple who appear to enjoy a happy and stable relationship. The narrative begins by highlighting their everyday interactions and the affection they share, creating a sense of comfort and familiarity. Rather than immediately introducing dramatic conflicts, the game spends its limited runtime establishing the bond between the two characters. This approach helps create an emotional foundation that becomes increasingly important as the plot progresses toward its central surprise. One of the most notable qualities of Evening Surprise is its ability to maintain a steady pace. The game wastes very little time on unnecessary scenes, allowing every conversation and event to contribute directly to the unfolding narrative. The writing is simple and easy to understand, which suits the game's short format. While players should not expect deeply layered character studies or extensive world-building, the story succeeds in presenting a focused narrative with a clear emotional objective. Visually, the game offers attractive artwork that enhances its romantic atmosphere. The backgrounds are detailed enough to create a believable setting, while the character illustrations effectively communicate emotion throughout the story. The visual presentation is not extravagant, but it complements the narrative well and helps immerse players in the relationship between the protagonists. Several key scenes are supported by special illustrations that add impact to important moments. The soundtrack also contributes positively to the experience. Soft and atmospheric music accompanies the story, helping establish the mood during both cheerful and dramatic scenes. The audio design is subtle rather than memorable, but it serves its purpose by supporting the emotional tone of the narrative without becoming distracting. Combined with the artwork, the music creates a pleasant and cohesive presentation that elevates the overall experience. As a visual novel, gameplay elements are minimal. Most of the experience involves reading dialogue and following the story as it unfolds. Players looking for extensive branching routes, complex decision-making, or multiple endings may find the game somewhat limited. Evening Surprise instead focuses on delivering a single narrative path and building anticipation toward its climactic revelation. This design choice allows the developers to keep the story concise and focused, though it naturally reduces replay value. The game's greatest strength lies in its ability to generate curiosity. The title itself suggests that something unexpected awaits, encouraging players to continue reading to uncover the mystery. Without revealing spoilers, the conclusion attempts to challenge player expectations and give additional meaning to the events that came before it. Whether the twist resonates will vary from player to player, but it undeniably provides the story with a memorable identity that distinguishes it from many short romance-focused visual novels. Considering that Evening Surprise is available as a free experience, it offers respectable value for those interested in brief narrative-driven games. Its combination of romance, drama, and mystery works well within its short duration, and the presentation remains consistently enjoyable throughout. Although its limited scope prevents it from reaching the depth of larger visual novels, it successfully delivers a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end that can be enjoyed in less than half an hour. Evening Surprise may not revolutionize the genre, but it demonstrates how a straightforward premise, supported by appealing visuals and a carefully structured narrative, can create an engaging experience. Players seeking a short story with emotional moments and an unexpected payoff will likely find it worthwhile, especially given its accessible nature and commitment to telling a focused, self-contained tale. Haahahahah the ending really got me =))))))))) I DID NOT EXPECT THAT, such an evening surprise xD
This kinda just feels like a fan-fic imported to steam, it isn't much of a "game".
