Eternal Essence is a turn-based collectible card game which pits two opponents against each other. Players construct decks of 40 cards and utilize their limited Rift Power (mana) to summon creatures, cast spells, and equip relics, with the goal of destroying the opponent's Rifter (hero).
Eternal Essence is a new deck building game that's fun and complex.
Like many card battling games, you start with a deck of 40 cards and fight against an opponent in turn-based battle until someone loses all of their health. However, Eternal Essence focuses on creativity and combo mechanics. You can use spells at almost any time, making most spell cards flexible as either offense or defense. The creatures often have unique talents and are able to attack immediately after playing. The developers put very few random number generators in the game (besides the obvious randomness of drawing cards from a deck) so that players can be confident in their execution of a complex combo. Sometimes, a battle can be decided by a few well thought-out spell and attack combos, but sometimes your opponent uses a surprise spell and throws a wrench in your plans. There are currently over a hundred and thirty cards, so there are a lot of options when building your deck, and some game modes require you to bring multiple decks to adjust to your opponent's style. Overall, the game itself is pretty easy to understand (there's even a series of tutorials), but the combos and back-and-forth spell casting can get pretty complex. There's even a fun single-player puzzle mode where you try and figure out a complex combo in order to one-hit KO your opponent. I recommend this game for anyone looking for a challenge in the deck building genre. The devs seem committed to maintaining the balance of cards and gameplay mechanics. Plus its free-to-play, so getting friends to join you is super easy. Easy to learn but hard to master, this game is great for fans of card and deck building games looking for something new.

Well... I think I'm hooked! I have always been intimidated to play deck building games but I decided to give Eternal Essence a shot. One the artwork is awesome, the game play fun and the game mechanics are easy to grasp but provide a wide range of unique play options with whatever cards you have in your hand or in play. I was also delightfully surprised by the Puzzle Mode. It was in the puzzle mode where I really grasp of the game concepts and helped me feel more confident competing against other people. If you are wanting to try a deck builder but nervous about taking the plunge Essence is the one to dive in with!
This game is so much fun to play!! As a player who has played both shadowverse and hearthstone i can say that this one is a huge contender. It brings a new and exciting aspect of being able to respond to your opponent with set magic and spell cards which makes gameplay all the more interesting. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys card based games and looking for something new!
For a game with one developer, it's really well built. It's a passion project in it's infancy, but the core mechanics are solid and differentiate it within a crowded genre. I've enjoyed playing it with friends and hope to see more people online. Definitely worth downloading and giving a shot. Even if you don't play this one, keep an eye on it. It may grow into something competitive.
I have enjoyed all of the features of Eternal Essence more than I could've imagined. After stepping away from online CCG for the last year and a half, Eternal Essence has sucked me back in. This game has an incredibly solid base by way of mechanics that Hearthstone wishes it could have started on. As a former dedicated Hearthstone player, I might do best by comparing this game to it. Things I liked: The mechanics in Eternal Essence has added so much depth to what formerly I considered a mostly simple question of whether to play a spell or creature during your turn. Instead of only being able to engage during your turn the mechanics in play for Eternal Essence are that of responding to each action of your opponent. You can set spells that will be able to react to an opponents play (just don't over set because of the card that wipes them all out). This mechanic keeps the battlefield significantly more interesting while your opponent is on his turn. Another major difference is Mana (or Rift) as they call it in this game. Each turn both players start with 3 (minus the first turn), and creatures that are in play can be sacrificed for their Rift points. This makes resources and sequencing all the more important since keeping a creature alive means a much higher likelihood of a much more powerful card the next turn. The amount of variability this mechanic offers makes Hearthstone's Mana style seem tame. The deck building is more optimal than Hearthstone's if for no other reason than consistency and ability to connect your combos. Instead of 30 cards you have 40 and instead of a maximum of 2 of each, you can have 3. Just eyeballing the math you can see how this paves the way for much more consistency for what one is trying to create. The graveyard is a different mechanic than that of Hearthstone, since you have the ability to see what of your deck has been discarded or played and in the case of a few cards are able to be pulled back into play. In some cases, cards are discarded from the graveyard and then they have no more significance in the game. So it gives one the ability to almost play with two decks, one of which you can be more selective with in the case of the graveyard. Solo mode is awesome!!! Including a fun tutorial with a little back story on the characters and my favorite being puzzle mode which really pushes the mental fortitude of those who dare to attempt it. These modes helped enhance my ability immensely and taught me a lot on how to win. Since this game has more depth in its game play, the victories are not foregone conclusions in the tutorial and especially not in puzzle mode, forcing you to really optimize your play. Finally the card art in this game is top notch! Incredible attention to detail and beauty is apparent in each and every card. Do yourself a favor and admire these incredible pieces. Areas needed for improvement: Most of my complaints come in the way of bugs. Since it is a new game I understand where the kinks are being worked out. Just some overlay issues and cases where things load in the wrong place but luckily usually don't affect the game play. The smoothness of the graphics are not quite up to Hearthstone. This is easy to overlook since the game play is so much better, but if the developers could really lock in the smoothness and beauty of their world, this game will be the gold standard for online collectible card games. Thanks for reading.
Sounds are incredibly loud and can't be changed. Gameplay feels sluggish. Straight uninstall.
Given that the CCG genre is oversaturated and this game does not bring anything new to the table, I cannot recommend it. Sorry. All the best though.
Start. Loading. 20 minutes later crash. Game loaded for the amount of time I have in this game. Uninstalled. I have Hearthstone.
