PLEASE NOTE: This review was based on the original (not early access or beta) version of the game that was released to the public on Feb. 4th. I was given a copy for free specifically to review it. The game has undergone several updates since then, and I have reached out to the dev to see if they wish for me to replay the game to update my review.
“There is no plot to speak of. While the game is an Arena Battler, it feels more like multiple assets mashed together and flipped for profit. Not fun, no direction, and no purpose. Not worth the price.”
https://youtu.be/LKbNzG2uPMk https://youtu.be/LZaJ8LI_zHQ I don’t even really know where to begin. The character creation is probably the only part of this I actually enjoyed, because it was unintentionally hilarious due to the combinations you could come up with for the look of your character. This game...it’s not worth it. At all. Even free this would be a big no from me. While I can appreciate what the dev was trying to do with an arena battler-style game, the fact that it’s super dark and lacks any direction, customization, or polish is an insult to the player. As if the dev couldn’t be bothered to do anything more than the absolute bare minimum to get the game functional. Actually...you know what this game feels like? A testing ground. One where the dev puts in several plugins to test them. This doesn’t feel like a game, but a developer’s room. And it shouldn’t be on steam. And of note: Adding new content is awesome! But doing that instead of fixing the current version means nothing. It’s bandaids on a gunshot wound. People don’t want extra features if the existing ones don’t work or make sense. +Character Creation is Hilarious +With the Multitude of plugins, the game is surprisingly sound =No beards in character creation =No story or plot. As an arena battler game this is OK, but it doesn’t even do you the courtesy of explaining ANY game mechanic to you whatsoever. =Unlockable Gallery has images of devs OTHER games. Um...just a single question: WHY?! =Lots of mini games, but no reason as to why they are there, nor what the rules are for some. -Feels like several popular plugins and mini games were simply massed together into the game with no rhyme or reason. -The tint is FAR to dark. You can barely see anything, and there’s what appears to be a fog overlay on TOP of that. -No direction whatsoever. After you create the character, you’re dropped into the town with no explanation or tutorial whatsoever. -Game folder is bloated with Two copies of the Windows OS version, The Mac Version, and the Linux version as of the time of this review. 5gb for a game that shouldn’t be more than 500mb So my verdict? This review is much like the game: short and thrown together. Consider it a ‘meta’ review. I cannot recommend this for any reason, even if you support this dev. It’s an insult to their player base that the dev is putting this off as a finished product.

Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
Team Syukino brings you Estellium Legends, a game where you’ll battle in the arena against multiple rounds of monsters as you make your way through ever harder ranks until you finally defeat all and become the Estellium Legend. Upon starting a new game you’ll be greeted with the character creation screen. Here you must create your character before moving forward. There are five main selections you must use for your character: Body, Eyes, Eyebrows, Nose and Mouth. After choosing these you can then enter the game, although there will be more customising of your character to be done (unless you want to run around bald and in your underwear). The other options to customising your character consist of Clothing, Front Hair, Rear Hair, Accessory A, Accessory B, Glasses, Beast Ears, Wings and Tails. Each selection has plenty of options to choose from to create your unique character. Next you only have to name your character and you’re good to go! You arrive in the southern end of a town called Gertalia. The town is under a vail of fog, as moonlight tries to pierce through. Somewhere in this town lies the battle arena, a place where you hope to vanquish all who stand before you as you strive to become a legend in the lands of Estellium. This is by no means an easy task; a lot of hard battles lay ahead of you. Luckily though for you there is help within Gertalia and its surrounding area. As you explore the area, you’ll come across characters who may give you some helpful information, or they may sell or buy items like weapons, armour, potions etcetera. Some characters will offer you a chance to play mini games, like a version of rock, paper, scissors, or black jack, or they’ll keep track of your fishing stats. Others may join you on your quest and fight by your side in the arena. Should you feel the need for more help you can hire characters to join you in the arena. The price of hiring these mercenaries ranges from three thousand to twelve thousand gold. Once you’ve found the battle arena you may want to test your silky skills and spank some botty. To enter the arena, you must speak to Roake, who will ask you which rank you’re interested in fighting in. You’ll then be given the options of Basic or Advanced ranks, although advanced ranks aren’t available to you currently. So you’ll have to choose basic ranks, in which there are six ranks of increasing difficulty. The six basic ranks are G, F, E, D, C and B, with the G rank being the lowest rank and where you’d be best to start from. As your character levels up and grows in strength along with your party increasing in size, you’ll be able to climb through higher ranks. The class of your starting character is a Soldier, but you can swap and change to one of eleven other classes at any time. The twelve types of character classes are Soldier, Swordsman, Black Mage, White Mage, Specialist, Monk, Knight, Rogue, Archer, Spellblade, Magnus and Berserker. So, plenty of choices to choose from to define your game style, you’ll have to level up any new class you decide to play with. Each rank battle you enter will be fought over several rounds, fighting stronger monsters as you progress. Once you’ve beaten one round you’ll immediately move onto the next round of battles. Keep in mind that your health and magic will not reset upon starting the next round, and by the time you reach the final round you could be out of magic or potions to heal yourself, so pace yourself through the first rounds if possible. Should you make it through to the end you’ll receive some XP, Gold and maybe some items. In the options you’ll find General (Always Dash and Command Remember) and Audio (Master, Background Music, Background Sound Effects, Melody Effects and Sound Effects volume controls). Visual: Here you can change the colour tone of the game window to your preference by adjusting the colour values (-255 to 255) of Red, Green and Blue. Also, in visuals there’s Battle Animation Speed: Full, Fast, Faster and Fastest, Battle Camera On/Off and Sync Monitor FPS On/Off. Finally, there’s Controls: A layout of the keyboard functions is here with a choice of playing with the WASD or default layouts. You can also remap any of the keys to your liking should you wish too. You can use a game pad, but you can’t remap any of the buttons, however, the game worked well using a Xbox360 pad. It’s a good idea to save your progress regularly because if you haven’t saved your game and all your party dies in battle, you’ll find yourself starting a new game. You can save your game at any time; there are twenty save slots available to you, so use them. I’ve enjoyed playing the game so far, although it is a bit grindy as you try to get enough gold for weapons, armour, etcetera and level up for the higher ranked battles. However, I don’t mind grinding in games to get what’s needed to do the job right. The game is challenging and can be frustrating at times, but who wants to play easy games any way?! Positives + Enjoyable but challenging + Multiple classes to play as + Achievements Negatives - Frustrating at times - No cards yet Die or be victorious in the arena as you work your way through ever harder ranks of monsters as you strive to become a legend. 7/10
Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes via THE CPT FROGGY CLUB! So this game is all about building up a party to fight in the arena. There's really not much else to it. No story, no real character interactions. The level cap is at 30, and there's really not much motivation to switch classes. If you do the character goes to level 1, they can keep their old skills, but there's no like, level up bonus or anything. There are also some classes with the same skills. Archer and Specialist. Soldier and Swordsman. On the plus, if you like level grinding, it's a good go. On the minus, we have a really simple game, it's hard to justify a five dollar price tag. I think the biggest negative is that the game is so dark. It makes exploration more difficult than it should be, and honestly it gives me a headache. If they fix how hard it is to see everything, it would be much improved. Otherwise I can't suggest the game at the current cost
Technical Info: Developer: Team Syukino Engine: RPG Maker MV Released: February 5th 2019 Intro I am torn with this game. On the one hand, the game in theory is interesting (that being an arena RPG of sorts). On the other hand, the game is flawed to the point that it’s a boring, grindy and sometimes buggy mess. Presentation: For the most part, the game is quite nice looking. Although the darkness in the city makes it a bit difficult to navigate around. The bigger issue that I have with it, however, is that the game is uncohesive in areas. Characters come from two Resource packages, which make them mildly different art style wise. The music (at times) doesn’t fit. At times it plays a tune coming out from an Ancient Japaneese themed RPG, rather than a medieval fantasy RPG. Sometimes, breaking the immersion. And the UI could have been skinned so it fits better with the game’s theme. Technical issues also chip away from the presentation as well. Gameplay: This is where it suffers the most (alongside technical issues, which I’ll get to in a second). The main meat of the game is to be an arena legend in Geralta. So, most of the game is battle. You get to recruit other members as well, alongside playing min-games and exploring the world (sort of). To be fair, when things work, it’s pretty pleasant and fun. When done right, the battles are chalenging. And I enjoyed exploring (when I had an idea of where I was going at least). And the rhythm game was fun. But here’s where the game falls apart. A design failure I noticed is that you can battle enemies (and even enter the arena) without any party members. This results in battles dragging for minutes on end (especially when the enemies can recover HP). And rendering the arena unbeatable. I think that it’s a flaw since the player starts out with no money and unless they search the city for the two free recruits, they’ll close the game before you say “Nightmare mode”. It would have been better to not allow the player join without a small party, unless the game scales with the power of the player and the number of party members. Some UI elements (such as the enemy’s HP bar) are obfuscated by the darkness, making it difficult to see crucial info. The battle UI is a bit clunky to use. Pressing the right arrow key will skip a turn and pressing the left arrow will open the party menu. Since the options are in a wheel-styled menu, it throws me off at times, pressing the wrong key. Adding text near the icons could also help, since some members have different skill sets but use the same icon in the menu. Exploration can be tedious due to unavoidable monsters in some places and there’s no skill (at least as far as I am aware) where it returns you back to the city, so you have to return on foot. And it can be pretty frustrating when you are out of resources and you are almost beat up. In addition, I am not seeing any good reason (aside from killing some time) to play the mini-games. They are there… just because. Finally (as a sugestion), I’d like to see some side-missions. Maybe a hunting mission. It would at least give a good reason to explore and/or play a mini-game. Technical Stuff: While it’s not as severe, I’m afraid that I only have negative stuff to say about. First off, 5GB game? Three fourths of it is two copies of the Windows version, a Linux version (which uses the SDK version of NW.js, not the Normal one) and a MacOS version. Why? I don’t know how Steam handles packages, but I’m pretty sure that you could split it into separate packages that are only available for a specific platform (one for Windows, one for Linux and one for MacOS). You are wasting the computer’s storage space for nothing. If you can’t make separate packages, at least write a bootstrapper app to check which OS is running and run the appropriate version. Pay a visit to the nwjs documentation as well. Speaking of which, the game has a flaw that uses the nwjs default profile (which allows the game to cache Shaders). And since I am working on a newer version, the game itself can’t use that profile. Which can harm performance, if the game uses hardware acceleration. And the game needs a bit of optimization. And I noticed that debug tools that are in the package (such as a batch file to start a web server and the nwjs source code compiler) To finish off this bit, there are graphical errors, such as images stretching out and the party being in the wrong position in battles. The verdict: Frankly, at this point (I played version 1.3) the game feels like a prototype for a game that might come soon. While there is a potential, it needs a serious overhaul to make it something worthwhile. I am not seeing any good reason to pay 4€ to play this. If you do enjoy the game, more power to you. But after two hours, I had to drop it. It burned me out. Until I see something worthwhile or the necessary overhauls are done, I will not recommend this to anyone, unless you enjoy grinding (which I doubt that are many here...)
where do i even begin here? i was hoping for the best and waited for the story mode to come out. and boy oh boy was this a let down! Everything that the game editor has to offer was meshed together. i mean you create a fantasy world with swords and magic and then you come across a helicopter and a time machine standing around the corner?! or you go into a inn made out of wood and inside is fricking hotel with a fridge and soda machines standing around?! and dont even get me started on the story and characters. everybody behaves super dumb and joins you for no good reason whatsoever. in a lot of places you cant grind to better levels since monsters dont respawn or they do respawn but you cant go back to town to heal yourself. which leaves boss battles to pure luck and makes no fun. i mean everything here was done so loveless. it feels like it was just done for quick profit and nothing more. the only things this game has going for itself is the character art. props to the artist. but aside from this everything is just really really bad. stay away from it.
It's pretty fun at first but get repetitive later and become kinda boring. Still a recommend if you want some quick fun. AND, keep in mind the developer is very responsive and quick to update their game so this review might be not be so true after some time. Note: I have only played to rank S in the arena so this is my review up until that point. Pros: - Character customization - Nice character art and stage design - Many class to choose from Cons: - The rhythmic sequence to have another turn is fun at first but become too OP and kinda boring later. - Bosses are boring, too much HP in the Advanced rank [strike] and no resistance to any type of debuff, totally become an eternal sandbag when your team have enough stun skills.[/strike] - [strike] Since bosses are not debuff resistant, I find no reason to actually go for any other classes that don't have stun skills. [/strike] (Bosses can no longer be stunned) - There are not many kind of debuff I usually see in other RPG like Burn from Fire type skills, Frozen from Ice type skills or Paralyzed from Shock type skills thus, making dark mage class a lot weaker than white mages. - Class is not so balanced either, [strike] since stun effect could be extended forever [/strike] and the bosses have too much HP, I find no reason to choose tank classes in this game, and [strike] Monk class is just broken, too OP that a team with 5 monks, 1 specialist would just be the best there are. [/strike] (Less broken now with the eternal stun gone but other dmg dealing classes are just kinda boring and Monks, with their continue turn can deal up to 1000 dmg without crits while others can only deal 200) - Did I mention the knight class is sooooooo boring with their lame skill set? Some improvement I think would be nice: - Give the boss some more identity, resistant to some type of debuff based on their design, allowing the player to think more [strike] rather than just throw the eternal stun debuff at them. [/strike] - [strike] Lower the overall HP of the boss [/strike] and give some classes the skills that can do dmg in percentage with the target HP. (You can look for references in MOBA games, DOTA or LOL, as they are quite good in making their champions' identity stand out) - The rhythmic 1 more turn design should be nerfed, it would be perfect if the character could only move for only 1 more turn no matter what they do. - An idea for berserker class, their self-buff skill i think, should let them double and triple their normal attack respectively (the attack itself, not the dmg). That way, they can generate more TP and use more skill, befitting their baerserker name. Anyways, that's it! And while I do bash the game a lil bit, I would still recommend this game as the price is low and it's actually pretty fun for a short while.
Estellium Legends has an odd development history, as games go - it started out as a spiritual sequel to the arena-only game Solenars Edge Heroes, and then over the course of patches it grew a story mode and thus became a spiritual sequel to Solenars Edge Rebirth instead. This served it well, since I found playing the story mode much more entertaining than the arena-only mode would have been, but at the same time it made the major issue I mentioned with Solenars Edge Rebirth's story ("a progression of dozens of characters you can hardly care about going through a more-or-less strictly linear adventure across poorly-drawn maps") even starker, because the character selection was a random "All-Stars" choice from Team Syukino's other games, since they were originally just chosen for the story-free arena mode. So, easy thumbs-down, right? Well... not entirely. This one ended up with a much less insane and tedious combat system, even if it was still kind of unbalanced, so I can actually say I played this one on purpose and enjoyed it enough. The class balance is still awkward, but not quite as much as it was in Solenars Edge, and the whole "sixteen-hit basic attack" / "grinding down permanently stunned foes because stun attacks are commonplace" issues aren't really in this one. So actually, this one will get a recommendation, albeit not a very strong one - I wouldn't go out of my way to buy this, especially if it wasn't on sale, but it's much improved over the first two Solenars Edge games in everything except the story. And... well... you can at least laugh at the story, pretty frequently.
Great character creator with lot's of options. A dark mysterious theme and a tutorial + interesting story mode. Taking into consideration that everything is done by just one person, this is a lot of hard work for a good price. Not to mention the continuous updating of the games, like with all of Syukinos games! Ignore the trolls - give the game a try. If you don't like it, refund it.
It's a good game. It's a pity there won't be more updates as this game has an expandable foundation. I hope there will be a sequel using similar ideas. The story mode isn't unique but, it's well done and it exists within the world. Often, lower cost rpg maker games plop an out of place premise into a generalized fantasy world. Not this one. It's gritty - if a bit edgelordy. The arena battle game mode is awesome! I love all the options and it can actually be challenging in a rewarding way instead of just blatantly easy-mode or ridiculously difficult. If you've been getting rpg maker games because you have a low end rig or because of nostalgia or just hoping to find a diamond in the rough, niche game experience - this is has your name all over it. You'll be glad you picked it up.
