About

Esoteric Ebb is an isometric, Disco-like, TTRPG-turned-CRPG set in a bizarre post-Arcanepunk fantasy setting. You are The Cleric, an expert in esoteric events, and a glorified government goon. Inspired by classic CRPG games, Esoteric Ebb features deep and branching dialogs with a staggering amount of choices.
Create the world’s worst cleric. Take on the city through tense TTRPG dice rolls. Struggle to maintain control with your Stats chiming in at every moment. Let the voices guide you into insane encounters and hit that natural 20 right when you need it. Become the most interesting player at the table and completely ruin your DM’s day.
Five days until the first-ever election, a tea shop explodes in the heart of the city. They send you to deal with the mess.
You wake up in a morgue with half the river in your boots, surrounded by ten thousand rotting apples, several corpses, and one zombie. Out of your depth and with no official backup, you delve into your beloved city to investigate the impossible mystery no one wants you to solve. Juggle factions and play them against each other. Explore the streets and tunnels of a fantasy metropolis. Debate devils, drunk sphinxes, and all manner of fantastical fools in a world where mythological creatures sell newspapers at corner shops and ideologies overtake the ramblings of dead gods.

Don’t forget the most important question: What are you voting in the election?
MAKE CHOICES THAT WILL COME BACK TO BITE YOU. Shifting alliances! Risky dungeoneering! Complete open-ended quests, low and high-stakes alike, set in the streets, towers, and dark tunnels of Norvik. Become the city’s savior, its demise, or bumble your way into absolute power.
TRUST THE DICE. Let chance guide you! Roll to wrestle dwarves, steal anything in sight, or to keep yourself from looking like a complete fool. But remember, in true TTRPG fashion, failure can often be way more interesting.

IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD. Debate yourself! Each Ability Stat has a conflicting viewpoint and loves to interrupt important conversations. No matter whose side you fall on, you'll complete quests in wonderfully ridiculous ways.

WIELD REALITY-SHAPING MAGIC. Use The Cleric’s power for unique narrative choices. Control minds for fun and profit. Detect secrets in the tunnels below or in the thoughts of your enemies. Speak with anyone, living or dead, just to see how they insult you.

TURN-BASED ENCOUNTERS. Clerics in Norvik are taught to use violence as a last resort. When the need does arise, a roll of the dice determines life or death. But you always have a bizarre solution to any problem, don’t you?

THE QUESTING TREE. Your quest log, skill tree, and mind map all at once. Each Quest Branch can take root in your mind and alter The Cleric’s playstyle through game-changing feats.

Arguably the second best cRPG after Disco Elysium. This is not a bit. Play this game.
Приятное путешествие которое я буду помнить очень долго. Спасибо разработчикам за этот прекрасный проект.
welppp, 23 of the last 48 hours were just spent playing this game. I couldn't put it down. There's just no shortage of things to do, choices to make, and secrets to find. I installed a mod that enable voice-acting for all dialogue and that felt like a good decision with how heavy the reading can get. But yeah, great story, interesting system of gameplay, and a beautiful art style. It's a fantastical mystery swimming in politics from start to finish, but in a fun way. 9/10 for me for the price. Would def recommend.
A truly charming game filled with clever writing and funny jokes, along with some genuinely interesting ideas and powerful moments. I enjoyed almost every part of this game and heartily recommend it if you like funny, reading-heavy games. The only area in which I think it can be improved is the combat encounters. Often, there is no real way to avoid all the damage coming your way and you have to either tank it or heal through it, which leads to situations where you pass every roll but still die because you got unlucky with the enemy's damage which can be frustrating. Despite this, Esoteric Ebb is my game of the year and I look forward to more.
Definitely worth it. Hope for a sequel.
Esoteric Ebb me pareció excelente.
While it is inspired by Planescape: Torment and Disco Elysium it is not some fan fiction game with references all over the place. It does point to PT a bit tongue-in-cheek in the beginning and it has similar dialog mechanics as Disco but it's an original game that stands on its own. It uses known skills such as Dexterity and Charisma instead of whatever Disco was doing. I recently completed it and Steam says I played it for 25 hours, my actual playtime is probably closer to 21 hours but I know I left some loose ends. Short thoughts: It's a great game and well worth the price of admission. It has lovely and varied music, impeccable performance, it runs snappy, loads fast and I didn't encounter a single bug. It has massive world-building and most characters have a lot to say - well, a lot of text for you to read because PT had more VA than this game and it didn't have a lot. Longer thoughts: I'm constantly hitting my spell slots with my mouse when moving around, so the game stops to ask why the hell I want to use that spell right now. Annoying. The map can be confusing as to how to get from where you are to where you want to go. The map doesn't even tell you where you are, with a little red dot or something like that, you have to actually read the map each time. During a lot of slow sequences, the game takes control so you can only watch and wait, unsure if you have to click something or if the game is actually progressing. The game needs to tell you that TAB highlights interactable objects. There is a ton of lore in this game and most of it has no influence on gameplay. It feels as if the creator had 3+ years going on and then begrudgingly had to accept that he was making a game, not writing a book. The deal is the same with spells and special abilities, even a particular sidekick, a lot of them you get to use once or not at all before the game is over. Planescape did the same, it set up a huge world but you only interacted with a small part of it, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Still, I felt there was around 12 hours more game in here but that it had to be wrapped up and shipped. I really enjoyed a lot of the dialog, especially what it means to "glass" someone and how to talk to the Golden Horde. I hope to see (and play) more from this developer.
I think this is better than Disco Elysium and I hope it gets more awards!
cringy reddit writing and unavoidable lectures about gender and men bad it was legit funny at moments, but the ideological preaching ruined this ( i gave it many chances )
Incredible game! Could not recommend more to those who enjoy terry pratchett's work, disco elysium, or just damn good narrative storytelling. My favorite game this year as of posting this review. Easily 11/10, if not more. I will remember this game forever, pretty much. The tears, the laughs, this is a delightful demonstration of why video games can be narratives and still be games. I was blown away repeatedly by the dramatic tension, the dry but rich humor, the gripping mystery, all pulled together in a neat bow with exceptional sound and visual design. My only regret is that I can never play this game for the first time ever again. A real treat.
