Escape From The Depth

Quick Little indie game that was fun. it was rly short but still fun towards the end when it feels like ur so close to escaping.

My only nit pick is that the subtitles and dialogue aren't synced at times, up to and including the ending lol. But fact is, outside of that I know it's short but I kinda love this. It shows really good understanding of fundamental level design, scripting, and pace. The premise and script is punchy and doesn't waste time and I think the VO performances are excellent. I really wish there was more game or a full game. I want to know what happens next! The creature really freaked me out!

"Escape From The Depth" is perhaps a student project or something... it's an extremely short first person horror adventure game where you avoid a monster and run around a rather generic kitbashed feeling environment. You're supposed to be on a submarine under the frozen crust of the moon, Europa, trapped on a submarine with an alien entity chasing you around. Alien Isolation shows how popular that concept could be, but the implementation here is less than 0.5% of that professionally made game. In fact if the store blurb didn't tell you it's a sub on a frozen moon, you wouldn't know, it feels like a really generic kitbashed FPS level. There's nothing submarineish about it. And nothing Europa-ish about the bug monster chasing you around too. If this is a student project, I am not sure they passed the course. The game is quite short, and can be run through in just 10 minutes or less. The lack of content here makes it hard to suggest it's worth spending the time to add to your library and download. The game assets here look a lot better than the actual game they're assembled on... that doesn't mean this is necessarily an asset flip or a kitbash, because there's no proof. But what matters is that this has all the same terrible quality as asset flips, and at the end of the day that's one of the reasons people don't like asset flips, the quality is bad. That's a problem. Let's talk about price and the value this represents for us gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of [b]only 3 players[/b], it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. Given that this free game won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options.
