Follow us & discover a hidden treasure. 💎🏃🏼🏃🏽♀️

꧁TL;DR:꧂
EONIA is a 1st person RPG adventure that rewards you for taking things slowly & being observant. Prepare to do a lot of reading & exploring as the game beckons your curiosity. ✂---✂---✂---✂---✂---✂---✂---✂---✂---
Recommendation:
☑ Content quality is a value at full price. ☐ Content quantity is a value at full price. ☐ Positive experience, but wait to buy when it's on sale. ☐ Negative experience. Wait for improvements before buying. ☐ Very negative experience. Save your money. ****************************************************
How the game is played:
EONIA intially plays out like a scavenger hunt, as you discover your surroundings and follow your Master's written instructions to become self-sufficient on your birthday. As you follow the breadcrumbs, more and more of the story unfolds, and you begin to realize that something strange is afoot. Explore, fight, lockpick, smith, use your spyglass, research and log plants and animals, fish, read books, set sail, sneak, create potions, map your surroundings, and find out what is keeping your Master so preoccupied.
What I like about EONIA:
+ Stealth. + Fishing. + Alchemy. + Low price. + Its combat. + Side quests. + Mysterious story. + A little platforming. + Spyglass & mapping. + Super colorful & scenic. + Draw & log flora & fauna. + Good ingame help menu. + Interesting skills & options. + Familiar 1st person RPG controls. + Nice, alluring "nursery bell" music. + Gameplay is extremely smooth for Early Access.
Room for improvements:
- Some backtracking. - No option to ESC out of logos. - Loading screen needs animation. - 3D scenes look flat & lack depth due to lighting. - No option to turn off head bobbing when you run. - Some invisible walls keep you contained to intended play area. - Story text can overlap & cover a scroll that you may be reading. - Final pass of English translation not in yet. Current text is adequate. - Needs a story archive. Sometimes, onscreen story text goes by too quickly.
Other thoughts:
EONIA reminds me a little of the old King's Field games in its pacing, discovery, lore, combat, and mysteriousness, although King's Field was darker and more heavily combat-oriented. EONIA is brighter and cuter. You may find yourself taking a lot of screenshots of the beautifully colorful vistas! According to the ingame disclaimer, there is currently around 5-7 hours of gameplay in this W.I.P. version. My recommendation is that, as with any Early Access title, you should only take the plunge if you are Ok with the state that the game currently is in at the time that you buy it and not for planned features or content that haven't been implemented yet. -END ⭐If you found this review helpful please consider giving it a thumbs up!
«EONIA»
Thanks!

DISCLAIMER:
EONIA is very early in its life as a game, and being in the Early Access phase, I will try to be careful in how much I read into certain facets of the current game and gameplay in general. So far, it's almost more of a walking simulator with some puzzle elements, but you can die fairly easily too if you aren't careful and do not utilize save points. Game over is game over. You'll be starting wherever you saved last, so keep that in mind as well.
Pros
I'm loving the vibe and color of the game and its presentation. You feel as though you are in a painting. Reminds me of a particular quest in The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, if anyone remembers the turpentine quest with the trolls. There is a draw system with certain animals. You don't actually make sketches; it's more like a bar of progress if you're within a certain threshold compared to where the creature is. You can then go and learn more about them from a book once you match them. It's fun and all, but I wish there was not a block on certain animals if you fail to have the appropriate knowledge/don't recognize them from a book. Most of the skills work this way - finding a spot with a book, reading over the pages, and then having a certain degree of control or mastery of said skill(s). Music is also very nice to listen to - it's atmospheric and not bothersome or too loopy. It's not bland, and it's not overpowering. Right where it feels okay. It can make *me* feel a bit loopy if I'm not feeling the audio, so it's always nice to hear something lighter in that regard. Movement seemed very secure and tight even with the controller in parts where I used that - the speed was just off with controller, so I went instead with mouse. Both mouse/keyboard and my controller were fine overall, but I think I ended up using mouse/keyboard mostly, just based on button schemes and the movement issues. The animals in the game are also nice to look at, and have interesting qualities/colors, just like real ones with certain tendencies. The system of approaching and animals either running away or attacking was a nice concept to add in, with a sort of "meter" to measure how aware an animal was. You almost have to learn their weaknesses in some cases, to figure out how to properly draw certain ones. Some cannot be drawn until certain other tasks are completed in the game first. Not every animal is the same. Some will hear you if you sneak, some require distractions, and others just need to be learned more about first before it can make sense. Development has been quite active in changing and tweaking this game. I like seeing that! They are devoted to the cause - refreshing in an Early Access situation. I have had a lot of negative experiences in this facet of a game, so I expect some nice progression over time.
Cons
Because of the smaller size of the map, and limitations on where I could go... I don't like the running here and there (and teleporting at save stations, once I figured that part out). Kind of obscure puzzles - I was confused a bit, and lost in spots. I mean, it made sense later, but at the time the obvious was simply not obvious to me. The story needs some polish. I'm kinda in a "sandbox"-like mode right now, unsure what I need to do to continue as it stands. This could improve. Maybe it is me though... The tutorial was not really as complete as I would have liked, from what I remember? It went over main points, but I was still kind of confused, for whatever reason. I would like the map to make more sense to me. I cannot explain it, but I simply don't like the feel of the map or the orientation overall. Repeating certain stuff during a save crisis was not fun. I was not aware, so that was on me totally. It is a con, since it messed with my experience, but it was also my lack of reading updated news to figure all that out, so I had to start over...
Conclusion
It's a nice game! Too early to say go all in on it, but I do think it will improve. The development is coming along, and it's active, as mentioned above. I expect it to do very well with time. Check back soon - but keep it wishlisted or maybe make a note, just in case you like progress later on, and want to try it out. If you really want to start now, be weary of the fact that it is, like many/all EA games, very early in the process. I'm giving it a break overall because of this. I just need to be reminded to come back later and try the next bit as it starts to shape out more! Try to wait for it to go on sale if you have other things you're working on and it's not something you feel you have to play as soon as possible, or you are die-hard with this title for any reason. On a good sale, it's already showing it may just be something surprisingly nice! Despite a fair amount of cons, the many pros far outweigh all the negatives. Keep an eye on this one.
For a single developer Geometrics Bytes has created a fascinating world of features to entertain you for hours. A lot of work went into this project and more to come. Pros: Music, sound effects, graphics, complexity of crafting, exploring, building, and repairing are wonderful. Lots of creatures, places to explore already in the game but a NOTE: some areas are not finished or you need to complete a quest to open them. Cons: Most of the people you're sent to visit have left only leaving you notes. It would be nice to eventually see characters to interact with an not only a living breathing world, but filled with NPC's as well. The game does feel linear but its because you have to open each quest stage to advance to new areas. Some of the quests need a bit more clarity and there are some bugs where I've had to do the quest more than once to complete it. Bottom line: I think this is a great project and not an asset flip. Development will take time as this is only one developer doing all the work. I look forward to progressing with the developer and development, and if you like early access, and getting involved in indie development projects, that are active, you will too.
I worked for multiple hours testing and helping the developer get this ready for EA. He's a top bloke and put a lot of heart into this one. At the moment, the game stands at around 6-8 hours content. It's a relaxing and also rewarding game. I recommend grabbing it at its EA price tag, especially if you want to help a starving artist ;)
Welcome to a world of mystery and intrigue as you learn, search and document the creatures and fauna of Enoia, a very colourful open world Adventure RPG game from Geometric Bytes. You start the game by waking up to an alarm going off … It’s your birthday, and now that you’re 15 you’ve finally become an adult. Which means you can now become Master Endio’s apprentice. You set off after collecting some items from your house and head over to Master Endio’s home, but upon arriving you discover that he’s not there; there is only a letter with some instructions for you to follow. This will lead you around Eonia, giving you the skills you need to get tasks done. You learn everything from books, such as how to fish, how to draw and document the creatures of Eonia. Make sure that you read everything, otherwise you’ll be unable to complete the necessary tasks. One of the tasks Master Endio gives you is to draw and document certain creatures. To draw them you’ll have to use a spyglass, keeping the creatures within view for a few seconds, which isn’t always as straight forward as it seems. Once drawn they’ll appear in your sketch book; you can then go and compare your drawings with the Bestairium Tome 1 back at Master Endio’s house. Inside the Bestiarium book it’ll give you some information and tell you about the characteristics of the creatures. Collecting a record of the wild life of Eonia is just one of the things you’re able to do. You’ll also learn about alchemy, plants, maps, and how to craft potions; information that you’ll acquire from various masters. Eonia is split into 9 different areas which you’ll unlock as you progress through the game. If you lose some health, you can replenish this at rest points around the world, where you can also save your game progress. There are the usual options, like Sounds, Music, Invert Mouse, Enable Vsync, Mouse Sensitivity - these can be found in the in-game options. There are no graphic settings, and only option for full or windowed mode. The game graphics are nice and brightly coloured, adding a lovely warmth to the game. On the title page you will find information about the game version and some tips and information about the game and updates, along with how to get in touch with the developer should you find any bugs, problems or have any suggestions about the game. The developer is on the ball and fixes any bugs/problems very quickly once reported, which is great when you consider he’s the only one developing the game! Positives • Bugs or problems sorted out quickly by developer and easy to contact • Regular updates • Primary, Secondary Quests, Tasks, Crafting, Fishing Etc • Nice and colourful, sounds great, runs smoothly • Fun and enjoyable game, kids will love it Negatives • No Cards at this time • No Achievements at this time • Few Bugs (see top Positives above) but it is in Early Access Alpha • Needs more content (being worked on) • You can’t remap keys (a future update may change this) The game is in early access alpha stage at the moment so a lot more work is to come, but it’s looking very promising so far. Draw and document creatures and plants, build, learn skills and craft, in the fantastic and colourful world of Eonia. 7/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes via The CPTFROGGY CLUB! I love this game. There are the obvious reasons like the artstyle, first person gameplay and exploration aspect. But what I especially like is the whimsical storyline and discovering items while completing tasks and quests. It's not a grind game, it's a mind game. It's a relaxing, beautiful journey of exploration with a language all it's own. I also like that while there are dangerous creatures there can be alternatives to killing. EONIA is like becoming engrossed in a good book and losing track of time. The crazy thing is EVERYTHING is created by just one person. Very impressive.
Not fun. Awkward environmental interactions. Linear. Colorful! Needs a lot more work, but I wanted to support the guy's effort. Just the second puzzle was too hard, and my interest did not meet the required patience to solve it. I don't think this game is going anywhere, but I want to be wrong.
I've had this game for a few years, and every time I play it something goes wrong and my save file gets erased, or the game crashes before I can get out of the tutorial. I finally redownloaded the game and gave it a 4th try to see if the game is finally worth playing. Here's my thoughts: == Pros == ++Graphics are beautiful - the colors are rich and the environments are interesting to look at. ++A lot of exploration (once you get past the tutorial). ++Many different animals/plants to discover. ++Relaxing soundtrack == Cons == --The tutorial is very slow and linear - you can't go off and explore (or even save) until you get through the 30-45 minute tutorial (and yes, it can take this long when things don't work properly and there's a thousand extra steps to learn everything). --You can't swim? If you touch water at all you instantly "die" and respawn elsewhere. There's no warning about this until you actually try and go through the water the first time and the protagonist mentions his "fear of water" - what is this bs lmao? --One of the plants I tried discovering killed me instantly in Master Endio's tower? Not sure if that's supposed to happen. --Whenever you "die" you spend about 20 seconds with a debuff that won't let you move. --I hate how the game pushes the "take your time" and "don't rush" approach. --Grammatical errors make reading unbearable in some parts, especially when you're reading important dialogue and quest information. --The protagonist has very little character development. --Don't think there's any voice acting, or at least none that I've seen. --The UI is very uninspired and the menus are pretty weird looking and an eyesore to navigate. This is as far as I've gotten before I shut the game off, just because it is not very interesting at all. IMHO - There's nothing captivating about the game, other than the graphics, and the gameplay elements are just...not enticing enough to continue further.
