Encore Classic Puzzle & Board Games

Because the store page can't be bothered to tell you what's in here, here are the lists of the characters you can play against, and the games you can play: Characters first, because let's be honest, this is the ONLY reason you would play this over any other suite of board/card games: Chloe, Elayne, Harley, Hedda, Jack, Jasper, Marvin, Rhett, Roswell, and Capt. Scurvy. They all have their personalities intact. Games included are: Backgammon, Battling Ships, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, Chess, Dominoes, Tile Games (Edge Tiles, Gravity Tiles, Mahjong Tiles, Memory Tiles, Slide Tiles), Master Match, Pachisi, Panic (Classic, Lineout, Packer), Placer Racer, Reversi, Rummy Squares, Time Breaker, Word Games (Anagrams, Crosswords, Word Searches, Word Yacht, Wordox), Yacht (and Triple Yacht), and Zilch. Honestly a pretty good selection, though some favorites from previous editions are missing. And they play just as you remember them. Feels kind of limited compared to previous games in the series (the ones under the Hoyle brand). Game is also buggy. Has crashed on me trying to load games, initially wouldn't run at all without a DLL from a C++ distributable from Microsoft, and the "Encore Bucks" rewards shop you can browse for getting in-game items (no real money, just fake bucks you get for doing certain things, like winning a hand, winning a game etc.) didn't work. It lets you buy things, but none of the music tracks I bought were selectable after I bought them. No fullscreen scaling or basic visual features to take advantage of the resolution of modern monitors, Also of note, I recall in some of the earlier Hoyle editions at least, you could play with multiples of the same character (so, you could play with 3 Jaspers if you wanted). That feature is not available in this version. I don't hate this game, but I think the only reason to buy it is if you can't get any of the previous versions working on your computer, and just need to feel some nostalgia. I just wish it had more effort put into it. This could have been an amazing series that just kept going. Could have made the transition to mobile/tablet app, but instead it's still the same as it ever was.

If you buy this wanting the hoyle games look at the title. It is the same base but missing quite a few games. the ray game, the car racing game, the space game not the breakout one the other one, the card games are gone and the like. I love this game but I want the whole dang thing.

I am really enjoying having this available on Steam. Yes it is the same Hoyle collection that many of us have or had over the years. It runs really well and seems a bit more peppy so there obviously have been some tweaks. I wish the option to change the music wasn't reduced (I tend NOT to have music enabled but they had a jazz number that was very good and it was the one that they removed...) I love the word games , specifically Wordox Double cross the best. This game is like Scrabble but 1000 times more fun. There is possibility of bombing the other characters moves(eliminating their play) and there are plenty of bonus squares which are marked with question marks, so you will not know what you will get upon landing on one . It COULD be detrimental...lol But the characters are still here and that is at least 50% of the fun. I know , the price seems high so I would recommend waiting for a sale, it MIGHT happen one day!

This Is an absolute scam! WTF is this garbage they are trying to sell for $20!? This is a completely stripped down piece of garbage that not only will have serious problems on some devices(rog ally will not open correctly in the screen making it unplayable, and i had to manually install visual c++ 2010 just so it would open at all), but only comes with 17 games!!! It says over 1000 in the description!!!!! And its not like the game i had as a kid at all! the interface is so basic, you just side scroll through the games, mostly board games hardly any puzzle games, no bonus game where you could create obstacle courses and solve them. This is a complete rip off and an absolute disgrace that a company would do something like this and then charge $20 on top of that. I wish I could get it taken down off of steam so no one mistakenly buys it and plays one game of chess and can never return it. These developers should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. ARRRGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

I have mixed feelings about this. I had this exact game back in the 90's on floppy disk (maybe CD-ROM). Fun, playable with a good assortment of games. However, for the price, it would have been nice if the graphics were updated to modern standards rather than what they were back then . Addendum: After reading another review, I have to correct my statement that this is the EXACT game I had in the '90s in that at least one of the opponents, "Gax", is missing. There may be others that I don't recall. But as far as the games, game play, resolution, etc, I believe it is exactly the same.

为了跳棋刚发售就入了这款，原本以为能有什么提升，但是说实话，你发售拖了这么长时间，好歹也重置一下啊，不求4K，起码也有个1080P啊，结果还是跟原版一毛一样。。。只有4：3画幅。 不过跳棋等等各种棋类，再加上可以买各种饰品挂件的游戏机制，还是给个好评。哎。希望以后发售类似游戏能不这么敷衍。。期待下一代更精致的Puzzle & Board Games。 总之：We Need 2160P(4K)!!!

Loved these games growing up and I'm glad to see all the characters. Really should use Steam's Remote Play Together. As is I wouldn't rec this for 20$.

If the art isn't good, I tend to think gameplay won't be polished either, and skip buying the game or wait for a 40% discount. Encore Classic Puzzle and Board Games does not have that problem. Most board games have polished 2D art and animation which has held up well. Many games in this collection come with different sets of pieces, with accompanying background changes, many of which look like actual tabletops. Plus if I were to buy physical versions of all the games in this collection, I would probably pay US$225 instead of US$20. PLAY FOR FUN. What makes this collection of games FUN? The NPC opponents. I crank up the talkiness to max and try my best to outwit a pirate parrot, a talking dinosaur, a jazz musician, a travel writer, a Texas cowboy, a NY marketing exec, and several others. They all have just enough sass and humor to make the games fun and interesting. Low system requirements make this collection ideal for laptops and pads. Voice acting is top notch and includes early voice work from Jen Taylor (Cortana), William Hall Jr (appears as Oscar in Driving Miss Daisy), and pre-Halo work from David Scully. The sound is all early work by Mike Caviezel, who later did sound on the FORZA series. I have played other collections of dice or board games, and they don't hold up as well. On the puzzle side, Tiles games are challenging and come with four different tilesets. Of the word games, WordYacht is best, offering a large amount of replay. Do not buy this product. A number of games would not allow me to play. The description also says it has card games which it does not. It also says it has 1,000 "variations" - this is a real stretch of the imagination. Terrible product!

fun for a good 20mins till i got bored for childhood game but i wish steam would put Hoyle card games up as well.
