Clunky and tedious. There might be a good story hidden somewhere (from what I've seen I expect it to be quite generic tbh
evil cooperation doing even eviler research
, but of course I could be wrong since I did not finish it). But gameplay-wise it's just too annoying. So, what made me give up:

he rooms are cluttered with doodads. Most of them are unimportant, someones are not. Sometimes there's a visual clue if they ar of importance, sometimes not. And sometimes they just get in your way. Don't know how often I was blocked by pepples or something alike.
The dialogs. Some are unskippable, and many are constantly slowed by emoticons popping up before a person says something. Like: A questionmark appears over the heroine. You must until it disappears. Then she asks the question. An "..." mark appears. You must wait until it disappears. Then you can get the answer. Rince, repeat.
The dialogs and monologues repeat whenever you re-initiate them, which takes quite some atmosphere and is sometimes even downright dump (the heroine is shocked everytime again when you interact with an object which is disturbing). Due to their sluggish character pointed out above they become annoying very fast. even more when you're forced to go through the dialogs again, most apparent when you
do quests for guy named Cross
.
The puzzles aren't fun. Most of them are about running around and finding stuff, and since every random pebble can block you and switching screens often takes some time, it becomes a nuissance soon. There are situations where you are even forced to go through some dialogs everytime you want to enter an area (The worst was
when you enter the sewer
, where she's every single time like "Oh, what am I actually doing? Should I really climb down there?", followed by a dialog where you have to choose. Yes, damnit, like the last ten times!) I don't need puzzles at all, but if there are any, they shouldn't break the game's flow. And they should feel like puzzles, not like tedious seeking quests.
The dialogs/monologes of the heroine are somewhat clumsy. For example no scientist of the world would introduce himself all the time with "I'm a scientist". You're a physicist, an animal behavior researcher or whatever. If you find
your own gravestone
and are shocked, you should be shocked by
your sister's gravestone
aswell.
I gave up when I faced a situation where you need multiple attempts to survive, and every attempt forces you to traverse multiple screens and go through the same dialogs again.
It's not all bad. You can clearly see heart and ambition put in this project, and there are situations which are well-presented. If you're more resistant to tedious tasks and dialogs than I am, you might like this game. But I think it should have gotten way more critical play-testing. I feel bad for giving a negative review for an indie game like this one, but if it makes me give up after three hours of struggeling, there is something wrong. Nevertheless, good luck for your next games (if you've planned any). This game had potential and I will definitly check out other games coming from you (and hope that you've learned from this one)!

good game!
Gave it a shot but ultimately couldn't get into it, trying to be lenient since it is an RPGMaker game, others may enjoy. Boss battles could have been implemented better, picking up the ammo was so glitchy that it ruined the experience.
good
Empty Soul - S&S Edition is a flawed but pretty good RPG Maker horror Silent Hill like game, all right the story. Solan Walls is a young woman who has it all, she’s a scientist, she has a great job and great sister who works with her, but all that changes after terrible accident, after that she now is plagued by terrible nightmares and she can't tell between reality and her dreams because of it. But she must has to escaped she must end this nightmare, but in pursuing that she may soon face things that she has buried in her mind. Okay it's time to talk about the likes; the story is very good with plenty of great twists and turns. The atmosphere in the game is okay and kind of spooky. The pixel art/Graphics style are very nice to look at, the music in the game is good. The characters in the story are interesting like Solan and her sister. The game also has some nice references not just Silent Hill but to different video games, the puzzles were okay sometimes a pain but not by much. And the different endings you can get in the game we're good, my favorite ending has to be the UFO ending. The game has some notes which were nice and does help build the game’s world a little bit, but not by much. The game also has a gallery and a PDF that as art you can look at which I found it very good and cute. The game also has a chapter select which came in handy. Okay it's time to talk about the dislikes; Will to start off there are lot of grammatical errors, it didn't completely take me out of the story but they are pretty obvious. The game also has jumpscares basically you have a health bar and the way the health bar depletes is if you get scared by certain enemies it lowers your health, honestly I just felt that was kind of dumb, it felt like the game was trying too hard to be scary when implementing those jumpscares. The game has flashing lights witch wasn't that bad until the second boss fight in chapter 4, the game all so has boss fights but that happens in chapter 4 and honestly they were okay, but you could take them or leave them. The game also has half controller support well you can play most of the game with the controller, but there's some parts like in chapter 2 where you're in a map that you have to use the mouse. The game can also be kind of slow; I don't mean the game has a lagging problem, but I mean like after a puzzle or some part of the story there will be dialogue but it takes its time to say it which can kind of be tedious especially in the alternate ending where their text you can't skip. Now on the alternate ending in the game is bad but not in the way you think, it's just the text in the game takes its sweet time to load and it also deletes your save file, which making it hard to get the other endings of the game, but there is a chapter select so it’s not that bad. Also when trying to get the achievement Surprise! You see to get this achievement, who must Examine the model City in Runner's Room ten times, but when you’re in the room you have to go to the model City and click on it 10 times first if you do anything else like put the jewels that turns on the supercomputer and then do the model City the game will crash. As I said the puzzles were okay, but sometimes a pain, but a good thing there was a walkthrough or else the puzzles would be very annoying. And lastly there was supposed to be a new chapter for this game but apparently since this game has been out for years I doubt that we'll ever see this new chapter. So I say if you can get past its flaws Empty Soul - S&S Edition is a flawed but pretty good RPG Maker horror Silent Hill like game, with a very good, very nice pixel art/Graphics style and okay and kind of spooky. So if you're interested in RPG Maker style Silent Hill like game this might be for you.
I didn't buy this game or receive it as a gift, It just appeared in my library already installed one day. 10/10
