This was one of the games from my childhood, when my parents and I used to play games every night. I played it a few times after that by myself and completing it several times. Even then I noticed the great visuals, art style and sound effects. And now I just remembered this game from somewhere (I think I just heard the sounds from another game and remembered) and immediately wanted to buy it to have it and play it again. And I managed to complete it in just 2 hours, including the ZEM with a gold trophy. The game may be quite unusual and strange for today's standards and games in general nowadays. However, despite this, this is a really great game, with an extremely pleasant story and easy to understand, at the same time the fantasy is captivating enough. And literally the game has great and incredible visual effects, especially for that time. And the soundtrack and sound effects are...amazing, literally prestigious and nothing like I've seen in recent years (literally such a ASMR, these sounds are so crystal and clear). Back then, games in this category just had this charm in them... And there's literally nothing wrong with this game even if someone plays it today, I highly recommend it! I think a lot of people will like it if someone is looking for something diverse, entertaining and cool. I'm glad it's still on Steam, unfortunately the third game in the series isn't there, but whatever. Otherwise, you don't need to have played the first one to enjoy the second one. The story will also be completely clear.
Summary
A hidden object game where the story continues off the first game with improvements mainly to its graphics but still suffering from generic gameplay. Pros + Decently fun time sink Cons - Lots of backtracking
Overview
Empress of The Deep 2: Song of The Blue Whale is a point & click adventure game that's a direct continuation of Empress of the Deep: The Darkest Secret and picks up instantly where the first game ended continuing the story. There are significant improvements from the first game from the graphics to the story. Unlike the previous game there is now a lot more magic and spirits. Anna is somehow able to use healing magic to cure a number guardian animals though it isn't really clear how she is able to do so other than the fairies you collect? Compared to first game the story made things less obvious but still using similar themes of trust, while also explaining far more of the story and lore. Just like the first game they focus far more on story instead of gameplay, but with the improvements to the animations, graphics, and cutscenes it really made things better overall. There is much improvement from the first game though not many to its gameplay. It's generally a fun enough time sink with an alright story, playing the first isn't required as they explain the first games story on the opening cinematic. Gameplay Most of the gameplay is simple and nothing new to the hidden object genre, they have done a little better when compared to the first game. Puzzles are still not much of a challenge though some do get a little tedious as there are now far more items to collect and placing them in slots 1 by 1 is quite a hassle. Hidden object zones are also not that difficult as items don't blend into the background, with the improvements to the graphics the backgrounds also look much better. There is far more backtracking especially compared to the first game as the final half of the game makes you go back to all the previous areas you've been, introducing you to new zones within them but they are quite small. Most of the game is really repeating the same things 4 times and the same puzzles when freeing the guardians. After completing the main game there is also a bonus secret zone to unlock a match-3 mini game called ZEM. It's actually rather fun and you can also get trophies for getting a high score. Was more challenging and innovative than the first game. The story continued, and was very fun. Zem is a fun game added as bonus content. Very satisfied.
I throughly enjoy the years I spent in darkness not knowing if this game was just a figment of my you could say imagination. After I discovered that this game is indeed real and NOT ILLUSIORY, I decided to obtain this beautiful childhood memory once again. This game has incredible scenery, a lot of sea animals (whose im big fan of by the way as u can see from my profile picture) and Pandora who is lowkey really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hot. I wish I was Jacob in that statue in the hub lowkey. As I said she is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hot all wrinkly 'n stuff. I guess I just like freaks like her. On the mention of Jacob, he kinda acts like a groomer not gonna lie, I dont really ♥♥♥♥ with him that much, in a nutshell I want to put him in an iron maiden and watch him slowly bleed out while screaming in agony. Thank Pandora he's dead. If I had to choose between the bear in the forest and Jacob I would choose the bear any day. I really enjoyed reading Pandora's diary something or whatever, I think she's cool. Anna is a protagonist I think. She probably has some sort of mental deficiency, but its okay, Pandora has clearly more than that, so I guess the parents choose the correct twin. I'm very sad at the fact that Pandora put the Pyramids and the Great Wall of China underwater, its kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up of her, but at least the fish can be Egyptian and Chinese now which I think is very cool. One fact that I'm also sad about is that Anna didnt leave Florida underwater, I think it would've been way better for humanity if that happened. Who knows maybe in the fourth game (in hypothetical scenario) Florida would've been the evil base of Pandora? Pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good game for people with ADHD. 9/10 would've been perfect if Jacob didn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ exist.
fun
This was a great HOG. I thought the story was good and the game progressed logically. There are tons of HOG scenes and they are a little tough to make out sometimes. I had to get my reading glasses out. Each section also had several objects that you were collecting sets of throughout the world. You were also always collecting diary disks to unlock the bonus section and little birds to collect magic power. It was really focused on HOG and there weren't many puzzles to unlock, except and easy picture puzzle to rescue each animal. There was a pipe puzzle where you turn hexagons to make all the pipes connect. The artwork was beautiful and there was lots of it. Sometimes there was a whole new beautiful scene for just one or two things to do. The bonus includes a kind of match 3 game that reminds me of Mancala. You can play it over and over so the game has lasting value.
An hour in, but it feels like less. I have completed the first major quest, and I can honestly say I am enjoying this one. It is pretty much your typical hidden object game, with a fun, mystical story line which I imagine extends from the first of the series, but I in no way feel lost for not having played that one. So far I have always managed to figure out what to do next, though on occasion it took a little while. It is useful that when you finish an area, a notice pops up, and stays up, so you don't have to scour empty areas. The art and voice acting is fun, though there isn't really any animation as much as a series of still simulating it at times. The core, the hidden object section, is very solid, with a variety of way items can be hidden, and unlike some games no tell-tale outline telegraphing the items to an observant eye. It also hints as a bonus game, once you collect all of the memory cards, so that sounds fun! All in all, so far, a lot of fun, an easy thumbs up. ADDENDUM: About four hours, start to finish. It really drew me in, good game. ADDENDUM: The game comes with a mini-game called Zem that you can unlock, a solitaire form of Mancala, and it is a lot of fun. I keep coming back for that, even though I have finished the main game.
Сойдет. Лучше первой части.
