About

Emberwake is a 2D survival strategy game where you must protect the last ember of hope in a world plunged into darkness. Lead your villagers, gather resources, build defenses, and fend off relentless waves of undead as you struggle to keep your campfire alive.

Your campfire is the heart of your village, providing warmth, light, and the will to survive. During the day, send your villagers out to gather essential resources—wood, stone, and food—to prepare for the night’s onslaught. Build and upgrade defensive structures around your campfire, ensuring that your village is ready for the impending darkness.
As the sun sets, the undead emerge from the shadows, drawn to your campfire. Each night brings more enemies, and your survival depends on your ability to defend your camp and keep the fire burning. Every decision you make is crucial—will you strengthen your defenses, or risk sending your villagers out for one last supply run?

Resource management is key to survival in Emberwake. Carefully balance the needs of your village by allocating tasks to your villagers, from chopping wood and mining stone to hunting and gathering food. Use your resources to construct new buildings and upgrade your existing structures, ensuring your village can withstand the growing threat of the undead.
As you expand your village, new challenges arise. Over-harvesting resources can lead to scarcity, while upgrading your campfire and buildings unlocks new opportunities for growth and defense. Manage your resources wisely to keep your villagers alive and your campfire burning through the darkest nights.

In Emberwake, combat is a test of strategy and endurance. Arm your villagers with weapons purchased from the Mystic Merchant, and position them strategically to fend off waves of skeletons, shadow creatures, and other dark forces. Upgrade your defenses with towers, barricades, and other fortifications to hold back the horde.
As the nights grow longer and the enemies stronger, you’ll need to adapt your tactics to survive. Will you focus on strengthening your defenses, or take the fight to the undead with a more aggressive approach? The choice is yours, but beware—one mistake could spell the end of your village.

Every decision in Emberwake matters. The dynamic day-night cycle brings new threats as darkness deepens, challenging you to adapt and rethink your strategies as the game progresses. Balancing resource management, defense building, and combat tactics is crucial to surviving in this unforgiving world.
Survival depends on your ability to anticipate and overcome the growing challenges as the nights grow longer and the enemies more fearsome. Whether you’re a master strategist or a newcomer to the genre, Emberwake offers a deep and engaging experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Enderwake is a roguelike 2D mini-camp to castle defender and builder type game. Very simple premise with a decent game loop. The gameplay is very simple: keep the fire alive to keep the colony alive. If the fire dies out (due to a lack of wood) then the game ends. The challenge here is to gather resources while being bombarded by an army of skeleton figures attempting to overtake the camp. There is a day and night cycle in which the player has to be aware of. A wolf sound will indicate an impending charge towards the camp from the skeleton army. The further villagers travel away from the fire during the night will also result them in acquiring fear, rendering them sort of useless (or scared) to do any errands. The player is given two characters to manage at the start and can grow the colony given circumstances in addition to acquisition of resources. The three resources are wood, stone, and food. The controls are all done by the mouse. The graphics and visuals are suitable to the game's atmosphere. The graphics are somewhat simple and use pixel related graphics. That doesn't take away from the animations and the atmosphere the visuals create. I personally liked the water overlay and how it accentuates the day and night cycle. The user interface was also well done and makes commanding the villagers a lot easier (instead of having to move the camera so much). The sounds and music are okay. All required and included sounds are there while a better job was done on the music. Again, the tunes create a nice and relaxing atmosphere depending on what is going on in the game. Overall, I would recommend this game if this is something that interests the viewer/player. The roguelike approach was an interesting one, being stuck to one base instead of travelling around like Regions of Ruin. There are little cool features such as a live scoreboard for who has the best score currently running in the game. This is not something I would regularly play, but it was a nice break between other games. Thank you to the Dev for the free copy of the game!
This is a good game but really too easy...
Looks and feels like a nice game. I have not found any bug in my playthrough and really I did have fun with it. The only problem is that game feels somewhat short and you very quickly find everything there is to be found, but I will keep playing more looking for what the game will give. For a solo developer - thumbs up! In any case - nice little game!
Updating my review: Game has great potential, but that's about it. It's very short (it's too short even if it was in early access) and there's no reason to play more than once, other than for the achievements. I doubt this dev will ever deliver.
30 minutes were very boring and tedious. Not for me. 3/10.
The game is addictive! I found it through the demo a few weeks ago and was immediately impressed. It is actually addictive. Only the demo was a lot harder and after the release on November 10th the game seems a bit too easy to me, maybe some adjustments need to be made here. There are also a few smaller bugs that are annoying but don't fundamentally disrupt the gaming experience.
TL:DR
The game is very basic and terribly slow at the start, becomes boring and tedious closer to the mid-late game stage, there are lots of bugs, no tooltips or qiality of life gameplay features/hotkeys or time management.
The long version
You start with one villager and must gather stone, wood and food to build and upgrade stuff, but must keep in mind that your settlers eat twice a day and your fire constantly needs wood. If your wood supply runs out - you're dead, if your food or number of villagers reaches 0 - you lose. Each 3 days a merchant arrives and offers you random types of weapons and armor for your resources, each 3 days there's a villager approaching from any side you can hire for resources. The goal is to finish a portal and defend it for 3 minutes to win the game.
What the game doesn't tell you about
* A new villager also appears on each 3rd day, so you must watch out for them because nowhere does it notify you when one is at your walls waiting (they grow tired and leave at 6pm and you must wait another 3 days for a fresh one to appear) * The maximum amount of villagers is 6 and you can't use any hotkeys to quickly select them, apart from clicking their icons on the bottom left of your screen * The game also doesn't tell you that villagers will drop ALL of the resource gathered if they could not reach the safe border in time * There are no tooltips and you have to figure stuff out on your own (i.e. when you finish defending a portal - you win and you can say your goodbyes to that 100 days survival achievement and must start over again, even if you played 40 days already, like I did) * Speaking of achievements - they can bug out and there's a big chance you won't get it anyways, like I did on my 2nd attempt.
I've survived 20 days without losing a vill, twice, I've killed a lot more than 20 deer, I've reached 100 days, I've equipped all of my men with both weapons and armor, I've upgraded both of my towers, I've upgraded everything there is to the last stage and I didn't get achievements unlocked for any of those.
* Speaking of bugs - there are plenty, most common of them is your villagers getting stuck next to your warehouse, preventing you from giving them a task until you reload the game, or that sweet little bug where all of your stockpile of weapons and armor on the racks disappear after you reload the game to fix your villager getting stuck at the warehouse * Hunting multiple deers becomes micromanagement nightmare, because one villager that hunts one dear might (and definitely will) scare off a second deer that is getting hunted by the second villager, to the point where those deer will escape behind map border, happy hunting! * There is also no speed management options one would probably expect from such a game (just sitting there till day 100 without x2 or x4 speed after you done literally everything the game can offer in 50 days or less is pure torture)
Conclusion
I can't recommend you to buy this game in its current state, because there's not that much you can do in it right now. The game is also being developed by just one guy, so expect the slow release of upcoming updates, if there will be any (he insured us he's already working on the next big update and desperately needed QoL, but we'll see when that happens). Needless to say that if you want to support the development - go ahead, I'm not here to tell you otherwise. I'll try to remember to change my review to positive if the game shows improvements, but for now it'll stay negative for all the things I've mentioned above.
Practically an idle game for how long it takes to do anything. The 30 minutes that I played were very boring and tedious because I have to make sure my villagers are always doing something and it became exhausting scrolling back and forth.
es un juego muy entretenido, con la emoción de la estrategia, me gustó mucho.
