CLASSIFIED: DARPA ARCHIVE LEAK – EYES ONLY // NOFORN
Document ID: DP-96-03-SHADOW
Date: March 16, 1996
Status: DECRYPTED – ORIGIN UNKNOWN
SUBJECT: Unauthorized Software – “Enigma Protocol”
WARNING: Possession of this program violates Title 18, U.S.C. Distribution may trigger surveillance escalation.
In the neon static of 1996, a rogue signal fractures the grid.
You intercept DarkPulse—a black-market terminal ripped from DARPA’s vaults. Meant for cyberwarfare. Now it’s in your hands.
You are the ghost in the machine.
At first, it’s simple: type commands, breach servers, stay hidden. But encrypted whispers leak from corrupted files. Corporate espionage, blacksite labs, and a buried protocol the world was never meant to see. The story doesn’t stop at the screen—clues bleed into reality: phone numbers, websites, scattered coordinates.
This is an ARG for those who still remember how to get lost online.
Saraksen Technologies is watching. Every input risks exposure.
The modem screams. The system pulses. Your next move matters.
Will you ignite the signal, or vanish into digital static?
Terminal-Based Hacking: Type real commands, crack systems, evade detection.
DARPA-Origin Tech: Use DarkPulse, a stolen prototype built for neural infiltration.
ARG Integration: Solve puzzles beyond the game—track hidden clues across the real internet.
Multimedia Immersion: Decode corrupted text logs, audio surveillance, and video fragments.
Choice-Driven Ending: What you uncover—and what you choose to share—alters everything.
OPERATIVE WARNING: The truth is a weapon. Data persists. So do secrets.
ADDENDUM: [REDACTED] signals detected. More to come.

The concept of this game is wildly different than any other game I've ever played on Steam. I'm not done with the game yet, but it requires some serious thinking and research, even extending to tools and resources outside of the game. It's the first real ARG I've personally played on Steam that stretches beyond the confines of the application itself. Highly recommended for the technical and curious minded folks. The only potential downfall I can see is that the game length is pretty short. I was able to clear it in less than an hour.
i recommend this game if you are into these types of games. It makes you use your brain and a decoder to help you figure out what needs to be done before moving onto the next stage. you will figure it out and become a pro at this.

I love a bite-sized ARG, especially one that lets you relive HTML 1.0 in the flesh. Let's not talk about how my failure to [ /spoiler ] correctly led to me looking at the source code of every single website page instead of just [ /spoiler, or am I just protecting my ego?]. I hope the devs have fun checking the server logs and seeing the same dork visit the same pages over and over. Both endings got me hyped for the sequel, where I expect I will once again waste time instead of just [ /spoiler ].
"Echoes of MK-ULTRA" is one of those desktop simulator/hacking games (frankly that could have been done in HTML5). This one has you pretending it's the 1990's, and Milli Vanilli is really a top band, and you have a special hacking thing stolen from DARPA and you use it to pretend you're Neo from the Matrix, except without the Matrix, you're just a hacker guy alone at home. That would have been a boring movie. Just like this is a boring game... it doesn't closely resemble any real hacking, at best it's a lame adventure game that could have been done in a browser. What do you do in the game? Type in pretend commands to pretend you're a hacker, wonder why this browser game doesn't have tabs like Chrome, uninstall because you got bored. You can't even shoot guns in this game. For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static text/images... it might as well be a web page. It's functionally no different from a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. The graphics aren't great, Basically just text and stuff, could have been a browser game. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $3 USD for this. Would you pay three bucks to play something that could be done in Firefox? Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of only 2 players, it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "nope". While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher quality alternatives on Steam.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer attacks the review and the reviewer instead of acknowledging the defects I describe in this crap game... and indeed ignores the fact that this was a failure. Let's take the developer breach of guidelines here in the context of the facts... SteamDB shows this garbage only has two consecutive players... complete and utter failure, and why? Because of the reasons I point out in the review I wrote the developer didn't read. And indeed the developer attacks the review for me not mentioning the gameplay when I describe exactly what you do in the game, from my observations when I was playing it... it's a crap tier hacker "sim" where you type dumb commands. With only 2 peak players and such a garbage quality implementation I don't think any deeper gameplay is even warranted... if I played the game for longer, does it suddenly get 3D cutting edge graphics? No? The developers position here is arrogant and insulting. Especially from such a failure at development (facts and SteamDB don't lie). The "developer" argues that I review a lot of games, therefore this game review isn't valid or truthful. Huh. If I changed all my other reviews to positive, would the graphics and gameplay of this crap game suddenly improve? No. The developer seeks any possible angle to throw shade at me personally to discredit my review. You can see what they are trying to do. If this was the only review I have ever written, would that change any of the properties of this game or alter the facts contained in my review? Of course not. My reviews for other games have no bearing on the dismal quality of this failed product. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this game to anyone. Edit: The developer has begun stalking me across several Steam comment sections posting vitriolic and angry comments. Stalking and harassing individuals on Steam is a direct breach of Valve community guidelines... and why? Because the developer is angry and is now telling lies about his popularity. SteamDB does not, however, lie. The peak player count for this garbage was only 2 people who never came back. The developers hate filled stalking and harassment are totally unacceptable.
🧠 Echoes of MK Ultra — Review Developer: Pedro Macedo Camacho Release Date: June 2023 Genre: Turn-based Strategy / Narrative Puzzle Platform: PC (Steam) 🎯 Overview Echoes of MK Ultra throws you into the murky, morally twisted world of the CIA's infamous mind control experiments. You don’t play the hero—you are the interrogator, tasked with breaking prisoners and turning them into sleeper agents. It’s bold, dark, and unapologetically psychological. 🕹️ Gameplay This isn’t your typical tactics game. Each mission is a mental chess match—you juggle stress, trauma, obedience, and memory. You decide how to “re-educate” prisoners through: Brainwashing techniques Propaganda Psy-ops conditioning Each prisoner responds differently—some comply, others resist, and some completely snap. Your tools are effective, but brutal. Every choice feels like playing God. Think: Papers, Please meets XCOM, but without guns—just words and control. 🎭 Narrative & Themes The story is tight, disturbing, and based on real history (Project MKUltra). You’ll question your morality with every click. It's not horror in the usual sense—it’s psychological discomfort. The kind that sticks. Major themes: Government corruption Identity breakdown Ethics of power Control vs free will 🎨 Art & Sound Art style: Gritty, minimalist pixel graphics with sharp contrasts and symbolic effects. Sound design: Uneasy, droning music with Cold War ambience. When subjects scream or go silent—it hits hard. ✅ Pros Deep, original gameplay loop Intense psychological narrative Meaningful moral choices Strong replay value with different outcomes ❌ Cons Can be very slow-paced UI feels clunky at times No hand-holding (some puzzles are obscure) Emotionally heavy—not for everyone 🎯 Verdict If you're looking for something fresh, dark, and mentally challenging, Echoes of MK Ultra is a must-play indie gem. It’s not about flashy action or fast clicks—it’s about power, pressure, and pushing people until they break. Final Score: 8.5/10 “Terrifyingly good. Morally awful. You’ll love it.”
1996'nın dijital sis bulutunda, DARPA'nın elinden alınan haydut terminal DarkPulse'a komuta edin ve Saraksen'in örtülü komplolarını ortaya çıkarın. Kodları kırın, gerçek dünya ipuçlarını avlayın ve yasak gerçekleri ortaya çıkarmak için şifreli medyayı deşifre edin. Bu bir ARG ve siz zaten görüldünüz.
