Sonic 3D Blast except it's actually 3D! I'm seriously impressed by the clever level designs in this game. Not only do they make good use of interesting slopes and ramps, but levels always take advantage of the isometric camera angle to give you a sense of space. I'd be looking out into the distance from the top of a tower and think, "Wow, I can see the path I took from up here!". Of course, this level design is greatly inspired by classic Sonic. So you'll need to be skilled enough to maintain speed to launch off of a ramp, and you need to stay alert to avoid passivity traps. Dynacat is adorable and I love the innocent charm of this game. It feels classic like you could take the game out of a CD case and play it on an old console. At the same, it's modern so you can play at high resolutions (including ultra wide) and at a 60+ frame rate. Dynacat only takes less than a couple hours to beat depending on your skill level, so it's short and sweet. But, there's more mileage to be had from simply replaying the game whenever you feel like it or finding collectibles scattered throughout the map. Something I wasn't a fan of was playing for score. Each level offers four objectives: pass the par time, find the collectibles, defeat a certain amount of enemies, or get an A rank. Your letter rank is based on a "style" score, but I found that the fastest route through the map wasn't close enough to get an A rank. I think you either need to spend time on trial and error to find the right route that gives an A rank, or to mentally plan out your route and execute it. Personally, this objective wasn't as appealing to me and I stopped going for them after a certain point. Anyway, if you're a fan of games where you play as a cute cat then I highly recommend this one!

One of the most aggressively poorly-controlling games I've ever played; so much so that I was driven to try recalibrating my gamepad within minutes of playing. In the tutorial alone, you're encouraged to 'not push anything' as Dynacat propels herself forward while in speed mode. Meanwhile, you're soaring past a wealth of collectibles which you fail to pick up simply because you're obeying the game's instructions. Attempting to pick them up by nudging the thumbstick will see Dynacat only occasionally move in the direction you want. Sometimes she darts off obediently. Other times, it's like an invisible finger is ramming the thumbstick in the opposite direction just to spite you. It's impossible to know what the game wants from you. Get into the game proper and it's an absolute sh*tshow as you start applying everything you *think* the tutorial taught you. You once again fail to pick up any items even as you snap the thumbstick in half trying to steer the sodding cat. You follow the (somewhat baffling) advice to not touch any buttons, only for Dynacat to hit a ramp at full speed and somehow tumble backwards down it. The isometric viewpoint obscures jumps and - as far as I can tell - completely messes with the turning sensitivity depending on what angle Dynacat is running at. The promotional videos make the Dynacat like a bright and breezy affair. You think you know how it's going to feel - how it *should* feel, as someone who's ever played a platformer. But it doesn't play that way. It plays like what it is; a contradictory mess that dissolves on contact with player expectations.
Ever seen Sonic 3D Blast gameplay or know of other isometric platformers? This is basically that, but is quite inspired by classic sonic with levels that both encourage speedrunning and also exploration with several paths and secrets to discover. It's fairly long enough for this type of highly replayable game if you also try all the special stages, I say around 5 hours. The controls are mostly good. You just need to get used to the somewhat slipperlyness you have where you continue moving for a bit after you try to stop. Also that when going on curving or looping surfaces that you may have to stop inputting a direction to not mess the sequence up. It's not hard to get used to I'd say. The music you may honestly think is simple sounding and not always standing out, but It all has a unique feel for the game. I feel this game definitely fills my desire for fast paced and exploration gameplay and I can look past some of the minor issues. If you're looking for an indie game with a lot of passion put into it then I say give it a try, but don't forget to try out the demo of the game which allows you to play the first levels of the first two worlds and also the first boss.
I really enjoyed this game! It's an isometric 3D platformer that's heavily inspired by Sonic 3D Blast. The game feels very fun to play once you master the controls and all of the stages have lots of branching paths to take for those that like to explore, do the various objectives, or even speedrun. Despite that there are some issues with the game that some people may have: There's not much of a plot and it's very basic. You only get a cutscene at the beginning and the ending of the game which in my opinion is fine for the type of game that this is; but others may have an issue with this. There is no explanation for who you are, the world you live in, the main villain and their motives, etc. It is mostly left up to the players imagination. Works great on the Steamdeck but there is no cloud save support so you can't seamlessly play on both the Steamdeck & PC using the same save file. I'm personally not a fan of the special stages having the retry option locked behind how much you were able to fill the bar before failing. The option should be there from the get-go or not at all. One of the special stages in particular was very difficult for me and it was frustrating spending an hour going back and forth between clearing the normal stage while having to grab the collectibles and then failing the special stage if I didn't collect enough orbs to meet the retry requirement. I think the $20 price tag is a bit too steep when I take a look at this game and compare it to other indie 3D platformers and the amount of content they have. For example on a first time playthrough Spark the Electric Jester 3 feels fine at $25 (5-7hr base game + 1-2hr post game) and VIVIDLOPE (6-7hr for just the main campaign) at $10 is incredible. $15 feels much more appropriate for the length and content despite this being a well polished game. The game is roughly about 3-4 hours long provided you can adapt to the controls quickly and you're aiming to clear all of the special stages on a first time playthrough. After beating the game I did a very casual speedrun of the game on hard mode and beating the game again while doing the bare minimum (no special stages) took barely under an hour. I really wish there were more content. The last few stages had awesome level design and aesthetics and the final boss was SO cool it left me wanting more. I don't really have any gripes regarding the gameplay or the level design. It's very fun and it feels great to play once you master the controls as I mentioned in the beginning of this review. I'd love to see a sequel or post-game content added and It's a shame this game flew under everyones radar including my own. I would easily recommend this game on a sale.
Really fun
sonic 3d blast except its actually 3d and its a BLAST to play :)
While not without its flaws, this is a really good sonic-inspired 3d platformer. It's also very smart on how it teaches its controls and mechanics. Overall, I would personally give it an 8/10.
DynaPEEAAAAK!!!!! EXTREMELY underrated platformer game bruh PLAY IT trust me it'll most definitely be worth yo time!!! Pro tip tho try and play it with a controller it functions much better
Dynacat nails the visual style it's going for. Despite the cute appearance, the clever level design can be very punishing. Enjoyable game with interesting mechanics and a learning curve that makes replaying levels worthwhile.
A great speed based platformer that feels somewhat similar to Sonic 3D Blast on the Sega Mega Drive. It controls really nice, has lots of stuff to find in levels (which in turn opens up special stages) so your encouraged to replay and explore levels. Plus it relies on momentum (again, like classic Sonic games) so once you learn the levels you can blast through them at great speed!
