Drain runner is the first game released by Nothing interactive and it is a rocky start. while the game doesn't appear to suffer from many bugs, the ones that it does suffer from are game-breaking. 1. Getting stuck under life preservers, this was a bug that luckily, only occurred once but when it did occur, I could do nothing and was forced to close and reopen the game. 2. THE BOSS DOES NOT SPAWN there were 5 rounds where I completed all the objectives, and every time I would wait the full 7 1/2 minutes only for nothing to happen, when the timer reached zero the game continued and no boss showed up. 3. In one game. a quadrant of the map changed without the flood ever occurring, causing my character to get stuck in a wall. 4. When you attempt to repulse a crab it will stop moving after going a certain distance and will remain stationary in the air, only moving when you get close to it 5. Penguins and crabs are unkillable, I'm assuming this is a bug 6. If you hold down S while on the edge of a rail you will just sit there, this is the smallest bug since it eventually resolves itself or you can just jump off but it's a bug nonetheless. 7. If you lose due to the time limit and are on a rail you will infinitely gain points. With the bugs out of the way, let's get to my complaints with the game. 1. There is no pause menu, a pretty simple QoL thing that every game should have. 2. The game is very poorly optimized, I have a 5600x and a 3060 TI, the game sat at 44% CPU usage and more than 50% GPU usage. How? 3. They have removed the settings option in the menu. I have no clue why you would actively choose to remove QoL features. 4. don't make E the key you use for everything, you have an entire keyboard for a reason and while it is useful to have simplicity, ground pounding if I'm in the air and getting boosted if I'm not is very disorienting, please at the very least separate these 2 controls. 5. The smallest nitpick imaginable, the game has an icon on the desktop, but when you actually play, the icon in your taskbar is the UE4 icon Now that I have summed up all the issues, what do I actually think of the game? It's an interesting concept, but the game lacks basic QoL features, has multiple game-breaking bugs that I found within 20 minutes of playing, including the boss literally not spawning, and the Game lacks replayability. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this game.

9/10 music is great, couple minor bugs here and there but not terrible for a free game. I do wish there was a settings menu.
"Drain Runner" is a "procgen is content!!!" third person parkour platformer with a big focus on using samey procgen algorithms instead of deliberate, narrative driven progressive level design... which is a lot of words to say once you've played this for 5 minutes you've seen everything. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.
Great visuals and music! A few quirks here and there but it didn't take away from the nice challenging gameplay and replayability, I'll always be glad to support a free student game :)
By far one of the most engaging and unpredictable action roguelikes of the century. Infact it may define its own genre as Rogue did with Rogue-likes. In years to come, the up and coming "Drain Runner-likes" will define the next generation of gaming.
This game is just broken, it has unstable FPS, crashes a lot, and even when it works it is pretty confusing and aimless. but at least the music fits. It sounds like it was composed by a broken printer.
This game is pretty fun for being free to play and offers a decent amount of replayability. I love the grind mechanics, and the ground pound is very satisfying.
Nothing Interactive is off to a strong start with this one. The textures and environment remind me of Borderlands. I love the rails; big Tony Hawk Pro Skater vibes. Hopefully they'll add a co-op soon so I can run the drain with friends.
Bu hızlı tempolu roguelike aksiyonunda, öğütürken, mıknatıslanırken, patlarken ve yere vurarak The Drain'in sürekli gelişen tehlikelerinden hayatta kalın!
Interesting concept and aesthetic, but it's just not polished enough. Kinda like Sunset Overdrive but without fluid motion.
