I was just looking for something new to play, browsing through games without really having anything specific in mind, and somehow ended up finding DragonSword: Awakening. I read a bit about it, watched some videos, but what really convinced me to buy it and give it a chance were the reviews from other players. And so far, I'm glad I did. The best way I can describe the game is that it feels like a gacha game without the actual gacha part. You get that familiar anime style, different characters and flashy combat, but it's a complete game. No microtransactions, no stamina/energy system stopping you from playing, and no feeling that the game is constantly trying to sell you something. As someone who has played games like Wuthering Waves, NTE and other games in that style, I was really pleased to find something that gives me a similar feeling while just letting me play at my own pace. I'm still playing and still discovering the story, the world and the characters, so I can't really give a final opinion on those yet. But so far, so good. I'm interested enough to keep going and see where everything leads. The combat is probably one of the things I'm enjoying the most. It's fun, fast and engaging, and the lovely anime-style graphics fit the game really well. Visually, it's just a nice game to look at while you're playing. I'm enjoying DragonSword: Awakening a lot more than I expected when I randomly came across it. There's still plenty for me to discover, so hopefully it keeps getting better the further I get. So far, definitely happy I gave it a chance.
Played for ~ 12 hours, so I think I can give a fair assessment Story: The story is ... not terrible. It's split up in to chapters which span ~ 10 story beats. There's a lot of filler, but usually as you get towards the end of a chapter and it begins to really drive the story forwards it becomes much more interesting. Writing: The Engish translation can be very unnatural, but I suppose that's due to it being AI translated? There are a lot of grammatical errors and phrases which have to be re-read to understand. Having lived in Korea for 5 years as my wife is a Korean, there are manners Koreans speak in that are 1:1 translated. I.e: the lack of pronoun uses. Rather than saying "You smell of alcohol" while talking to one of the characters, it'll be "Castella stinks of alcohol" while talking only to Castella. Or only referring to characters by their titles rather than their names, despite having a close relationship. Sounds very normal in Korean, but it can be a little unnatural to international players. Sometimes I'm trying to speed through the filler sections, such as when the main characters are having dinner together, it can be a little jarring or I have to re-read it to understand what's going on. I'm not an AI hater, but it probably would have benefitted the translation to have someone proof read and over some of these parts of the dialogue to make it more natural to international audiences. Combat: It's fun. Especially when you get a team together and you're constantly switching to get those big numbers out. Ranged characters like Kalien are disgustingly OP; not only putting out big numbers but in most content can stay far enough back that they're not under any threat. The combat really shines in raids and hunts, as the enemies can be more aggressive and hurt a lot more. Though the most fun I've had is just... exploring the world on non-OP characters. Other stuff: I don't play gacha games, so it's been interesting to experience one without the gacha. It scratches that itch of incremental progression, slight boots as I level up to get single digit increases in DPS which causes my rotted brain to have a dopamine spike. Thoroughly enjoying this game, excited to see the resolutions to some of the mysteries they set up, and will probably aim for 100% completion
I played the demo and really liked what it was doing and picked it up. Its awesome. The game started as yet another gacha game to enter the market. But at some point in the development I think the devs pitched it to release as a single player offline game instead. So instead of FTP and locking content behind pay walls and making a gacah system, installing stamina limits of activities and all of the other things that come with gachas, they just removed all the restrictions. Gameplay is just like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves, or if you havent played those, you can think Breath of the Wild. Combat is based around having a three character party, with swapping in and building on each others' status effects. Tons of different characters with wildly different playstyles and building different teams is fun. They made some recent changes to ease the level up grind that helps building way more rewarding. Its an open world, literally go anywhere do anything (WuWa, BotW, Dragons Dogma, Crimson Desert) built in an anime style. Has mounts and skins. Some of the optional skins have some fan service (ie Summer skin swimsuits) but the normal character designs are very light on that while still having good looking characters. Tons of mounts and some skins are available and earnable by getting achievements, but there are some that are paid dlc. There's no item durability which is something i hated in BotW. Story is... ok. It has the feel of what you would consider a typical fantasy anime to have, with the same amounts of light hearted silliness you might expect from those while still having an overarching "epic" plot of saving the world. The story is not bad, but also nothing to write home about, and the biggest plus story wise is the characters are very likeable. The characters are where the game shines to me, but I acknowledge that I'm somewhat of a gacha addict. There are just under 20 right now, with a big mix of elements and mechanics. They are well designed and while some of the normal expected tropes are here (solemn priestess, sneaky assassin, quiet mage, small woman with weapon bigger than her) there are some that do break the mold, like one of my early favorites, Castella the great-axe wielding elven barbarian. Right now one of my favorites is Astria, who uses a giant crossbow that has to set up on a bipod to fire her explosive shots. Very Monster Hunter-esque. There are more advanced things that you can do in order to collect level up materials that can be done co-op, including boss fights and raids, which allows multiple parties to fight at the same time. TBH i havent got into that yet, ive just been playing on my own. All in all, I really like it, and it's well worth the $30, and ive bought some skins to support the devs. Theyve already got a roadmap of more content coming, with additional characters, regions, etc. Easy recommend.

I did not know what to expect going into this game. The combat is quite fun and engaging and the graphics are great as well. Honestly no complaints and it is similar quality to titles that are much higher priced.
