Overall, I give this game a 4 outta 5 stars. If you like challenging, arcade-y action it could be a good one to pick up. Below are some more detailed breakdowns of what I liked and didn't like about the game. Gameplay - 8/10 - There are a lot of fun adrenaline packed moments once you get going in this game. Especially once you put in the time and start unlocking some of the Sherriff Badge upgrades you can start to tailor your loadout to cover your weaknesses and enhance your strengths. Boss Fights - 8/10 - The boss fights are pretty creative given that all you can do in this game is move and shoot. The developers did a good job of fleshing out all the different ways they can test your ability to do these things skillfully. The bosses have tricky patterns but there is logic to everything so if you think about things you can usually figure it out. The boss fights are not easy though, especially the Armory Boss. Art - 7.5/10 - The art is crude in some areas, but also has a lot of charm. In the same way that a certain grotesque aesthetic can draw you in, so does the art in the game. I think the game definitely benefits from having one artist on it as there is a coherence to the environments and characters in it. Music and SFX - 10/10 - This is where the game really hit it out of the park for me. The music is a high fidelity orchestral score and the sound effects are properly bit crushed and sound arcade-y. This makes it so that the separation of the two makes it easy to key in on gameplay related sounds and enjoy the music at the same time.
The game is well made and easy to understand. Cool arcade game with cool art style. Actually surviving and getting a good run takes skill and practice. The boss fights can be brutal at first, but once you learn their attack patterns they become really satisfying to beat. Unlocking new weapons and learning new tips and tricks such as how to chain power-ups and customizing your badges loadout for synergies makes every run feel like you're making progress instead of just repeating the same thing.
The most fun I had with this game is when I was able to unlock the SMG in the later waves.. music is great and picks up as you move through different parts of the map/encounter new enemies. The boss fights are pretty tough especially the Armory boss.. I can for sure say I will keep playing semi frequently to see if I can stay on the leaderboard or better yet top it!! For the price there is a lot in here!!
Fantastic arcade shooter. The gameplay is incredibly smooth, the pixel art is great, and the whole thing feels really polished. The learning curve is steep, but once it clicks it's insanely addictive. I'm around 20th on the leaderboard and I still feel like I barely know what I'm doing, which speaks volumes about the depth and skill ceiling. Every run feels like you're improving, and chasing a better score never gets old. Easy recommendation if you enjoy challenging arcade games.
Really well-polished arcade shooter! The gameplay is smooth and challenging, and you can tell how much love was put into the art and sound. Having a live leaderboard is also a nice touch.
