The game features 30 well-designed levels, each with an associated chunk of the story that progressively unlocks as you play through. There are 3 different endings, and you have to make it through the game 3 times in completion while meeting objectives in order to view. This is an indie project, developed by a group headed by Chris Messineo, a filmmaker with his own IMDB page so you can expect a good quality of writing and voice acting from the game. Indeed, that aspect is delivered very well to keep the player engaged and playing on in order to find out what next happens to our protagonist. The hand-drawn artwork looks really neat, with all of the profiles of the characters and zombies in full display as you encounter them and further unlock this particular section viewable from the main menu. Don't expect the in-game design to blow you away, as very little effort went into environment design. You are faced with different-colored hexes and occasionally some more other obstacles/objects, aside from the characters and zombies. The missions/combat is easy to pick up for someone who doesn't play a lot of turn-based strategy games, such as myself. This game is pretty simplistic in the game mechanics aspect in that you have up to 4 playable characters for each mission and they have very limited movement and attacking, so that you can focus on resolving the whole mission. I don't enjoy having to fiddle with loads of equipment to get a team ready, have consumable supplies, etc. because that process takes too long. In a way, the simplicity of this game makes it easy for me to handle. You just start a mission and that's that. There are quite a few different types of zombies, each with unique features to try to give you some headaches. Unfortunately after completing the game and viewing the story to the end once, the story bits and the sketches where you can see the zombies reset too from the main menu. So I cannot count how many there are at the moment. The reason for resetting the story is that once you complete the game once and keep going, the 2nd completion will give a 2nd ending, while a 3rd play through will yield the final ending. The objectives for the first time through is just to survive, whereas you have limited number of turns for the 2nd time and need to complete the 3rd without taking any damage, thus the name of the game. Only then will you be able to view the final and true ending. I am not a huge fan of this progression system and then having the unlocked story/sketches sections reset. These should stay as far as I am concerned. Also I think the best way to set up the different missions is by having survival as the primary objective, and having the other two as optional objectives. Many games have different "stars/ranks" for completing the missions by meeting objectives. That coupled with level-selection would allow for a better gaming experience and not having to deal with replaying levels, if a player wishes to tackle all objectives and see all 3 endings with one play through. After all, time is precious, and replaying is not always desirable.
The Puzzle Element
Each mission is pre-designed so that all 3 objectives are achievable, you just have to figure out how to do this. The characters have few options for movements and attacks, while the zombies' movements and attack patterns are predictable. The mechanics are simple, but the extra objectives turn each level into a puzzle, which is nice.
Controls
Mouse plus a few keyboard controls/shortcuts to help. You can almost everything with the mouse.
Graphics
Game's sketches and character/zombie designs are pretty neat. The environment design is severely lacking. It's just not something that was a main focus, and that's fine.
Music & Sounds
The music is fairly eerie throughout, and the sound effects are simple. The voice acting is really well done for story-narration. Only issue I encountered was that narrative voices was somewhat difficult to hear against the background music at times, even with music set at 50% and vocals set at 100%.
Pricing
This game is set at $9.99 as its base price. While not too high, I think most people would look past it and move to other bigger games as they are discounted to this price. I would probably happily pay for this game at half its price. Playing through the first time took me a little over 4 hours, but I also was trying my best to not take damage and replayed a quite a few levels despite surviving to accomplish this as well. I have no great motivation to play again right after finishing though.
Areas For Improvement
1. I would really like to see the structure per level showing 3 stars/objectives as you start, so as to avoid replaying levels, if you achieve all 3 stars/objectives playing through once, you should be able to view all of the story-endings. 2. To go with that, level selection and replay function for levels you have already completed would be welcome. 3. Story sections and sketches reset after finishing the game, presumably to reset to accompany your current save, even if it's your second time playing. I think these should stay once unlocked. 4. There are no save-game selections, so you only have one save at a time. Most players would prefer to have multiple saves/profiles. 5. There are currently no achievements. While some people don't care, a lot of people like having some achievements. 6. If the environment designs could be improved somewhat, it would aid in the visual appeal of the game during gameplay. It's not necessary, but would be nice.
Conclusion
Don't Get Bit is a turn-based strategy game with 30 levels containing some puzzle elements. It has fun sketches of the different characters and zombies that you can view, and it also features an appealing story to keep the player engaged and playing on. While missing some features, its simplicity is great for people who may feel overwhelmed by other more complex games. This game can also serve as a good introductory game for people who want to try out the TBS waters a bit. Overall reasonably fun and worthwhile, should you find the price right for you. A nice little turn-based strategy game. The main game takes no more than three hours to complete on your first play through. The story wasn't anything extraordinary, but the voice acting was great. Props to the drawn art work and music too. While the game isn't long, you can replay it at harder difficulties. Every level (in each difficulty) has been super fine-tuned, so the challenge is there if you want it. Personally, the story kept me playing over the game play. I feel like turn-based strategy lovers will enjoy this more than the average gamer. However, the game could easily be more accessible with some quality-of-life changes, like enemy range indicators and an undo button. Don't Get Bit is worth giving a try. You can feel the amount of care taken into making it, and it's definitely one of the better indie games.
The gameplay is simple but it works. The hand drawn art is fine but the stiff digital background tiles clashes with it. The narrator does an OK job, but she doesn't have anything good to work with. The story is a cliche fest and some of the monologue is cringe as hell, you also have to hear the levels monologue every time you restart the level, which you'll be doing quite a lot, especially on the "second journey" which has a time limit to each level. You apparently need to replay the entire campaign three times with different modifiers to get different endings which really are just cutscenes, not in any way related to any choices you can make yourself.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. The characters were likable and the story was fun enough that I did all three playthroughs in a row. Difficulty for each playthrough was balanced well and made you think but wasn't overly hard where it felt cheap. I would recommend this game to anyone that likes tactical rpgs or just wants to play a fun little zombie game. No technical issues to speak of.

No es ningún spoiler.

HISTORIA
Don't Get Bit is a short turn-based tactics game that plays more like a puzzle. You play as Cassie, a young adult, who's trying to get to her uncle's farm during your typical zombie apocalypse scenario. Over the course of 30 short levels you're joined by three additional survivors, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Every level starts with a spoken diary entry from Cassie, with pleasantly surprising voice acting quality. The game offers about 2 hours worth of gameplay, but there are additional difficulty options to try after your first playthrough, which I have not tried at the time of writing. The asking price is a bit steep for the time it takes to complete, but if you grab it at, say, 75% off, you won't be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this game, and I liked the way that playing through the three journeys forced me to change my approach. Although I don't disagree with the turn-based strategy label, I found it leaned more toward the puzzle side than the kind of games that usually jump to mind for me in the genre (e.g. civ or xcom - it's not like those).
"A puzzle-strategy game with an engaging story, they say? We'll see about that!" *over two and a half hours straight and all thirty scenarios later* "I saw about that! Very, very good!" lol
Great VA, tight gameplay. Well done and worth your time & money.
This is the first time I have ever played a turn-based strategy game, and I love it!! This has been a great intro into these types of games. I'm in the middle of my second play-through of "Don't Get Bit" and it's just as entertaining as the first play. The story is very compelling and brilliant! I love the voice actress. I love everything about the look of this game too. It's so unique and cool! "Don't Get Bit" is challenging and always keeps me on my toes; I have ended up playing it for hours with no knowledge of time passing. I have screamed in frustration when my strategy has ended with me turning into a blood smear on the board, but it just makes me more determined to beat it and show the game who's boss. I have recommended this game to many of my friends. This is a GREAT independent game!
