this game is a prison
Great game if you hate your friends or are interested in hating your friends.
Dokapon Kingdom: Connect is an absolute mess. The game itself is bad, and this is an awful port on top of it. The game claims to be "The ultimate friendship ruining party game!", but even the meanest friend at the party can't hold a candle to the sheer bastardry of the game's own randomness. Movement is RNG. Combat is RNG. Events are RNG. Death is RNG. *Recovery* from death is RNG. You have no control over anything. You have no options to mess with your friend other than to waste their time, which in turn wastes your own time by extension because the game moves at a snail's pace. It's not frustrating or funny as a "rage game". It is simply poorly designed. The game has maybe six tricks and you will see all of them within an hour of play, but the game can last 15-20 hours. You cannot pick what happens to your friends when you prank them. You cannot even change their name (one of several features from the original that have been removed for no reason). This isn't an online issue either, you can't give players mean nicknames in local games. In fact, the current version of this port is bugged so the game always changes your name to UPPER CASE even if you type it in lower case. The game crashes randomly. It crashes if you beat the game. It crashes during event cutscenes. There are visibly broken and clipping textures everywhere, even on the main menu. This port is a sad, quick cash-in by people who truly could not care less. I tried this game in 2023, revisited it today, and was *immediately* hit with new bugs. The port gets worse over time. The original game is from 2007, and *that game* was a remake on a title from 1995. You know what? It feels like it. This game is clunky as all get out. I believe it's 30 years old and hasn't been updated. Selling this for $40 (or it's original *$50?!*) is criminal. I'm an advocate of playing full-price for games, but that's a genuine rip-off. This game is worth $5 at most. It's an embarrassment, especially when you remember that everyone playing needs to own a copy. You can try Steam remote play. The game's built-in wireless is so clunky and slow that this was the first game I've ever played where Steam remote play was *faster* than the built-in systems. Incredible. Do not play this with your friends. There are so many wonderful party games you can try instead. Play "PEAK". Play "Meccha Chameleon". Play "Last Train Outta Wormtown". All of those are cheaper, better-programmed, and ten times more fun than this absolute mess. Give the people who made this port what their work deserves: Nothing.
You might need a couple house rules for this to not devolve into the most miserable experience of your life, but the fact that it lets you do that if you really want to is part of why it's so incredible. There's a special place in hell for the person who designed some of these field spells, and in it they get a VIP spot to look at bozos getting blasted halfway across the realm by Squall.
i like the game until i get countered and then my vision goes red and i hurt myself and others
♥♥♥♥ you this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game
first play session lasted 12 hours.
Convinced my friends to get this game and ended up winning it all best 15 $ of my life
i cant with this game, everything reminds me of the coin flip lmao i just want to dokapon and brother pulls zap i have met my fate. other than that im having a great time learning the game and losing more than winning, i cannot recommend this enough as a party game with it having 3 different game modes ive only play story so far. 9/10 better than mario party
Even single player is a good experience. The computer will cheat at higher difficulty by always rolling what they need, but you can win if you prepare to interfere with whatever they seem to be doing.
