Although outdated in terms of PC gaming this game is really fun. Perfect squeal to the Cars 1 game and while it doesn’t reach the same heights as the first (and even the games after) it is still a wonderful game in its own right. I am hoping someday all Cars games (and maybe the Planes game) get a remake collection (similar to Toy Story: Retro Roundup) because to anyone who likes Pixar or the Cars franchise I can’t say no to recommending this. Something I love about this game is the story and the interesting parallels between it and Cars 2 with Mater having a bigger role, racers from all over the world competing in a big Grand Prix, McQueen’s main rival being Italian, and Mater having a British love interest. Knowing the beloved legacy the Cars game trilogy has I hope someday they make a new game similar to it that takes places either after Cars 3 or Cars on the Road. Really wonderful game despite it’s age definitely showing. Happy 20 years to one of the most inconsistent yet great franchises ever.

A Master Piece to say the least. This game generates peak dopamine in the day and age that we live in. It hits the nostaglia just right and makes you hate Ramone. Just ♥♥♥♥ Ramone man, this guy..... 💃 I recommend this game to anyone who is bored and wants to take on a simple challenge. The first one is key binds. After you get this set up better, this game is a lot of fun and discovery. 💖💖💖 Oh and I played this as a kid on my old windows 98, i got the game from Kelloggs cereal box.

Disney•Pixar Cars Mater-National Championship, developed by Rainbow Studios and published by THQ in partnership with Disney, serves as a spirited follow-up to the original Cars video game and expands the world of Radiator Springs with a celebratory racing festival built around Mater’s enthusiastic idea of hosting an international tournament. Rather than simply recreating the story of the film, the game acts as a narrative continuation, placing players back in the role of Lightning McQueen after his rise to fame. The premise revolves around Mater organizing the first ever “Mater-National Championship,” a global racing event designed to bring competitors from all over the world to the quiet desert town. This simple but charming concept allows the game to introduce a variety of new racers and competitions while maintaining the relaxed, humorous tone that defines Pixar’s Cars universe. The story unfolds through short interactions and events across the town, giving the experience a sense of continuity while keeping the focus squarely on racing and exploration. The gameplay combines arcade racing mechanics with open hub exploration, allowing players to roam through recognizable locations such as Radiator Springs, Tailfin Pass, and Ornament Valley. Instead of navigating menus to start events, players can drive freely through these areas to discover races, challenges, and mini-games scattered throughout the environment. This structure helps the game feel more immersive, as the town itself becomes a playground filled with activities rather than simply a backdrop for competitions. The races themselves are fast and accessible, emphasizing drifting around corners, boosting down straightaways, and navigating colorful tracks that wind through desert highways, canyon roads, and themed stadium circuits. Controls are intentionally simple and responsive, making the game approachable for younger players while still offering enough challenge to keep races exciting. A notable highlight of the game is its expanded roster of characters and international competitors. While Lightning McQueen remains the central character for much of the story, players will encounter a wide array of racers from different regions who have come to Radiator Springs to compete in the championship. Each rival features a distinctive design inspired by different cultures and racing styles, which adds personality and variety to the competition. Familiar characters from the film, including Mater, Sally, Ramone, Luigi, and others, appear throughout the town offering side activities, commentary, or small challenges that break up the rhythm of the main racing events. These interactions give the game a lively community feel, reinforcing the charm that made the film’s setting so memorable. Beyond standard races, the game includes a variety of side activities and mini-games that help expand its gameplay variety. These range from quirky tasks hosted by the townsfolk to skill-based challenges that test drifting, speed control, and navigation. While none of these activities are particularly deep individually, they add a layer of variety that prevents the experience from becoming repetitive too quickly. Exploring the hub areas also reveals collectibles, hidden shortcuts, and optional races, encouraging players to spend time driving around the world rather than simply progressing from event to event. For younger players especially, this exploratory design can make the game feel like a playful interactive cartoon environment. Visually, the game captures the stylized aesthetic of Pixar’s Cars with colorful environments and expressive character models. Radiator Springs feels warm and inviting, with bright desert landscapes, iconic landmarks, and exaggerated vehicle animations that reflect the personality of each character. Although the graphics reflect the technological limitations of the late 2000s, they still carry a nostalgic appeal, especially for fans of the franchise. The animation of the characters’ eyes and facial expressions helps maintain the illusion that these vehicles are living personalities rather than simple race cars. Sound design also contributes to the atmosphere, with energetic music tracks accompanying races and familiar voice-like performances helping bring the characters to life. Accessibility is one of the game’s strongest qualities. The driving mechanics are intentionally forgiving, which makes the experience easy to pick up even for players who are not experienced with racing games. Drifting and boosting feel satisfying without requiring complicated timing or advanced skill, and the difficulty gradually increases as players progress through the championship events. Multiplayer modes further enhance the game’s appeal, offering local split-screen races that allow friends or family members to compete against each other. This emphasis on local competition reinforces the game’s family-friendly nature and makes it particularly enjoyable in a casual group setting. However, the game is not without its shortcomings. While the racing is entertaining, the mechanics lack the depth and complexity found in more advanced arcade or simulation racers. Experienced racing fans may find the handling model somewhat simplistic, and the repeated race formats can occasionally lead to a sense of familiarity after extended play sessions. Some of the side activities, while charming, feel more like small distractions than fully developed gameplay systems. Despite these limitations, the overall experience remains enjoyable due to the strength of the world design and the charm of the characters. Ultimately, Disney•Pixar Cars Mater-National Championship succeeds as a lighthearted and accessible racing adventure that captures the playful spirit of the Cars universe. Its combination of open hub exploration, colorful racing events, and a lively cast of characters creates an experience that feels welcoming and nostalgic, especially for fans of the films. While it may not push the boundaries of the racing genre, it offers a fun and family-friendly journey through Radiator Springs that emphasizes charm and personality over technical depth. For players looking for a relaxed arcade racer with strong ties to Pixar’s beloved world, it remains a pleasant and memorable experience. Rating: 8/10

The Mater Monstertruck side quest is a little buggy, but otherwise, goated game.
No sound here, what the heck
