"Discovr™ Egypt: King Tut's Tomb" is a very small and mostly pointless VR tech demo from 8 years ago (almost feels as old as a tomb). All you do is look around and try to find some treasure in a mediocre recreation of an Egyptian burial site. The demo only lasts about 15 minutes. Graphicswise, this has some fairly mediocre/dated looking graphics that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $3 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 11 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
fun short learning experience.
Man, this could be so much better. Badly optimised and low quality models. The main selling point for an experience like this would be the feeling of wonder and awe. But unfortunately the bad performance and simplistic modelling takes that away. Ideally this game should have had a lot more artefacts to explore, to be able to pick them up and look at them in great detail. The ability to turn off the layers of the sarcophagus and basically lot more information. Descriptions of the wall art, excerpts from Carters diary. Just more to to besides static objects and 5 information points.
Nicely done. Not a very long experience, but definitely worth it for free! The graphics (wall textures) are a little lower resolution than I'd like, but fine if you aren't up too close. The objects are all reconstructed as models with fair detail. It's nice to be able to stand in the tomb and see things all around you. It's not an experience many people will ever get, so I recommend taking it!

Experienced this on the Oculus Rift with Touch controllers without any major issues
This this app is free. There's a reason for that. There's almost no content here. There are basically 3 small rooms that you look at in the dark. There's very little information on the things you are looking at. Locomotion is done by teleporting to select areas only. You have a flashlight that you can turn off and on. The devs increased the playtime by including a find item game within the same 3 rooms. So is this game worth it? Well, it's free so I think so. The visuals are okay, not spectacular. The scenes have some educational value but I doubt they are accurate. I actually like that it was in the dark, it made the exploration feel a little bit more adventurous. Rating 5/10 it's worth the download, but then it's a delete and uninstall and hey, you got to experience something new in VR, probably better than going to most IRL museums
Library of Realities.com review: Explore King Tutankhamun's final resting place in Egypt's Valley of The Kings in this virtual reality experience. Three of the four chambers of King Tut's tomb are recreated here, though unfortunately the recreation lacks accuracy and detail and doesn't do justice to the ancient artwork still visible in these chambers. Beginning within the entrance to the tomb, the corridor heading to the Antechamber should be sloped downward yet it remains level in this recreation. Three of the four rooms of the tomb are included - the fourth is the annex, and though it is visible remains off-limits for exploration. The elaborately painted walls of the burial chamber are shown here in some detail, though there are some issues with the scale - the coffin is much larger in real life and much more intricately decorated than its portrayed here. Also, some of the wall paintings are not correctly positioned, and doorways inaccurately cut straight through them. The opulence and skill reflected in the ancient artwork celebrating the life of this Egyptian pharaoh is perhaps the most impressive feature of King Tutankhamun's tomb, yet it is poorly represented here in this early foray into modern virtual reality. Maybe a more modern version of this experience would have included detailed 3D modelling and photogrammetry of the tomb and its artifacts like the Tomb of Nefertari, but the lack of detail included in these models means there is little to impress here. Several items are provided with an audio narration, though the learning opportunities here are brief at best. There's no introductory interpretation of the pharaoh, his relevance to ancient Egypt or the location or discovery of the tomb in the Valley of The Kings. Such detail would have been an easy way to substantially improve the educational value of this experience, but it remains a missed opportunity. The basic controls are somewhat frustrating too; particularly curious is two-step teleportation method of moving around within the tomb, which can only be performed between prescribed points. The timed treasure hunt mode may add some longevity to the experience, but it also highlights the difficult user interface. Roomscale movement is necessary to reach and activate objects and interpretive buttons, but only possible with a left hand for some reason. ✅ Good basic representation of the tomb layout. ❌ Ancient art underserved by poor modelling & textures. ❌ Basic navigation is frustrating.
