Mobile port with a 5 second music loop, pure "touch" controls where a level is finished with a bare handful of clicks, and it even goes so far as to ask me to rate it 5 stars on some nondescript app marketplace after the first real level. Despite the decent art and okay concept, this isn't a game worth money. Also I know humor is subjective, and maybe if the devs are primarily Russian there are things lost in translation, but this isn't funny. The attempts at jokes don't even make sense.
TLDR; It's just OK... buy this if you want to support a small developer, not because you expect to be entertained. The BAD: Half a game. I have 2.3 hours on record because an hour of it was spent running out to get lunch. Don't expect to be satisfied. The game ends abruptly. It looks like you're reaching a crescendo in the story when instead it's just, "thanks for playing!". I suppose in $/h this is cheaper than a movie ticket (just barely), but at least movies have a beginning, middle, and end. The GOOD: Those are my frustrations with the game, but also, it does contain some dry humor. Nothing that will make you actually laugh, but it tries to be funny, which is nice. I liked the plot and the story. The MEH: I would say that the controls are good, since it is just a point-and-click game (I guess tap since it's a mobile port). However, in some areas, it can get pretty annoying when it shifts from click near the area you want to go to click exactly on the specific thing you wish to jump on. Since the controls are so simple, it greatly reduces the excitement in the game. You never need to combine objects as it is done for you. You don't need to fight anything, because that's just a cutscene. At one point a rain of arrows is coming at you, and you have no option but to just click and hope that this time the random-arrow-placement-generator doesn't hit you.
Give me glorious death or give me beer. There are always games and shows where a character searches for that perfect enemy to defeat. Trying to stay alive enough to do their mission. This is a different situation for Die With Glory. You play as Sigurd, an old Viking warrior, looking for a battle that will give him a glorious death and a ticket to Valhalla. It also helps your love is a valkyrie willing to bring you back when Valhalla rejects you. Interestingly this is set up as storytime, each section of Hack and Slash Tavern is a new area you can play. As Sigurd remembers the event, you decide what happens to others before going in. Each area has it's own puzzles and tasks you have to do. This is honestly easy as wandering through the level, but some are more difficult to get through. By the end of the level you would be weapon ready for your opponent. There are a lot of jokes and easter eggs. From what you and other characters say to how the level is designed. These jokes can easily not hit and can seem a little pointless. Also if you are looking to get to know a lot of the characters, you won't. As most of them either say jokes, has an item you need, or is a device to decide your path. The only people you really need to remember is Sigurd and his companions as they do get a little voice acting in this (I do wish this happened more often). There are limitations of what you can do. You can not go off of what you said in the beginning, so if you said this person did not die, you have to make sure they did not die. This decision can carry over to at least another area and can change it up a bit. Nothing too drastic, but it can block off other alternate verisons of the story unless you go back and choose differently. The puzzles can differ, but it mostly ends the same way. This can be especially tedious towards the end as it turns into doing the same thing. By just play through it without going back, excluding when it forces you to, Die WIth Glory gives a two hour experience. The point and click aspect can be awkward at times. Many actions you need to do works fine, but the platforming can cause you to do multiple clicks to move. I'm sure this is better in the mobile app as you work with your fingers rather than a mouse. With this in mind, having controller support would of actually helped with smoothing the platforming out. Of course this takes away the point of a point and click game but sometimes it doesn't fit. I do like both art styles they decided to go for, the rough black and white style cutscene and the cartoonish style the gameplay takes place. Sadly, they are disconnected from each other. If you had a different weapon other than a sword, it will still be a sword in the cutscene. Also, the battle happens in the cutscene than happens again in the cartoon style. Making Sigurd awkwardly hold his weapon most of the time in the air before the sequence of events happen again. So either taking out the sequence after the cutscene or just doing everything in a cartoon style would of been better. This only contains one chapter of Sigurd's tale. I do wish this was advertised as an episodic game as it is very disappointing when you find out. I can't help to also wonder how the other chapters will be added. If it's just going to be a free update or paid DLC and if so how much.
Overall
+ Art work + Love the voice work - Can be awkward with the platforming - Disconnection between both art styles Die With Glory brings you the goal of being accepting into Valhalla as you play as Sigurd, the unreliable Viking story teller. Each of his adventures framed in a way that you can decide what alternate version you want to do in each section of Hack and Slash Tavern. But with this only container one chapter, and hinting that the tavern will be built upon, does Sigurd actually achieve his death? He can't already be in Valhalla as people who you said died is not there and one person makes a small line about how Valhalla might not be what Sigurd thinks it is. So either this eventually goes away from this framing, never dies at the end, or just everyone at the tavern attacks him. Despite the flaws I do find it fun and recommend this, but I might be leaning more towards the mobile app (IOS and Android for $2.99) rather than the steam release. Hopefully Sigurd does go to Valhalla eventually.
Die With Glory ~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome to Die With Glory, Join our protagonist Sigurd: A veteran viking warrior who has never been defeated in battle on his journey to find glorious death and enter the majestic halls of Valhalla. Along with his spiritual companion, Ragnar the flying skull, they travel Midgard in search of an opponent worthy enough to kill him in battle so he may end his days gloriously and rest eternally in Valhalla. Die With Glory Released in May 2017 by Developer Castle. Die With Glory is a humorous point and click adventure game. You will travel across the lands of Midgard on a quest for a glorious death that has eluded him for all his years on the battlefield. You will be aided by many characters and fight many foe on your journey. There’s a lovely graphic art style and mellow soundtrack to enjoy as you traverse through battle after battle. Your Story begins on the shores of Midgard, where you will meet your faithful companion Ragnar the flying skull, who throughout the game can help you with hints and humor. Along with Hilda, your love, who will bring you back to life when you fail to find a death that meets your expectations of glory. As you progress, you find yourself in the Hack & Slash Tavern, where you will drink and tell the stories of your battles. You interact with the many patrons as you build your story of death and glory. Die With Glory is a beautiful game graphically; it has very detailed art and devious puzzles to solve. I have had a lot of fun meeting all the interesting people on my journey for glorious death. I regularly buy drinks for the patrons of the bar as I tell the tales of my many battles. The puzzles are well made and require that you use a bit of that grey matter to progress. As a point and click adventure, Die With Glory is a solid title in the genre, you can tell a lot of love went into the creation of the game; the beautiful art in the game is very detailed and can be a little distracting at times as you soak in all the scenery they have made in the game. Will I find glorious death and reach Valhalla? Only time will tell. After 5 hours of gameplay I still have not attained my glory. It has been a fun play so far; some of the puzzles can be tricky, some are fairly easy. If you get stuck, talk to Ragnar and get hints to help you progress; he helped me a few times when I was getting frustrated at puzzles I was having trouble doing without a hint. Many complain about it being a over-priced port, I find this to be not factual; the asking price of $4.99 USD is quite fair for the game you receive. As a port, the controls are solid and I noticed no out of the ordinary quirks that many ports have. All in all, I say it was ported very well. So, for you point and click lovers out there, I think you will enjoy the title. My only complaint with the game was the lack of video settings. I play on a widescreen monitor and the lack of settings made the game run in a box-like mode, and some of the dialog would be off-screen and unreadable, which was a bit annoying at times as some info is important for your progression. The addition of more settings and options for the graphics are really needed for the game. If it wasn’t for this this one thing I would have scored it one point higher. This is not a point and click adventure game. This is a touchscreen mobile game port, which has pretty decent artwork, even if it's totally inconsistent between the two styles (game vs, cutscenes). At first it is both charming and simple enough, that the frustrating gameplay tricks you into getting into it. However, by the time the jungle temple level shows up, its flaws and dullness are evident. Especially when you have to get to said temple, where you must navigate an infuriating platform section where the character doesn't respond correcly to the input and you're forced do do it over and over again - oh, and better, if you have forgotten something back in the starting area or must return to the temple, you must repeat the platform section again, every time in either direction - this broke me, I've uninstalled this game and I'm never touching this nonsense again.
One shouldn't complain much about a game with such a low price but regardless I was left feeling disappointed after finishing the game. The concept starts of with a nice idea but never evolves further from clicking stuff. Click to move. Click to pick up object. Click to interact with object. Click the thing in the correct time and you won't fail and reset in a spot 5 seconds earlier. Sounds like a pretty ordinary point&click adventure, right? Well, as similar in the core as Die With Glory is to other point&click games, it fails to capture the most important thing of the simplistic gameplay genre: charm. There are no characters whose personality drives the player to continue onwards just to see how they unscrew themself from whatever pickle they've screwed themselves into. The attempts at humor grow weary very fast as a refence to a different more popular franchise is blurted after another. The only reason I played through the whole thing because I kept thinking to myself "well I paid for the thing, might as well finish it". Towards the "end" it just felt like a chore to finish and I use quotemarks because there is no real ending; just no more levels and a message "we will be back in part 2!". No we won't. Not me at least. The most astonishing feature of the game is that it took me roughly 3 hours to go through all the levels with each possible variable and outcome; such a short game and still feels incredibly padded. There are 6 short levels that you have to play through a couple of times with miniscule differences to 100% the game. After completing the puzzles on the first go, doing the same things again just for a slightly different dialog option made me feel like such a fool for actually paying for something that should've been a free game on a browser or mobile phone. All in all, I wish this game had died before given a pricetag, there is no glory here.
Скорее не рекомендую игру к покупке, либо по очень большой скидке , так как из-за наличие багов, прохождение замедляется в разы Мой итог 5,5/10
I couldn't force myself to play this. Seems very bad only a couple o minutes and I had enough. Something is off with the controls. Overall skip to the next game.
