Deus Ex Machina, Game of the Year, 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition

A simultaneously beautiful and horrible mess of a game that puts concept before design. Deus Ex Machina manages to feel strangely playable while crudely violating most of our expectations for video games. The original 1984 presentation remains a visual treat, with Mel Croucher’s ridiculous narrative and soundtrack carrying the game through its simple but varied sequences. My absolute favorite will always be the sperm stage. The commentary is mostly Mel explaining the gameplay because he wanted you to buy his book about the game’s development. It’s wholly possible the rerelease was to hype the book, but I doubt either performed very well. I’d recommended buying Deus Ex Machina at full price.

This game is totally broken. The very first mission is bugged and there is no restart, pause or anything. Is full of technical bugs and issues. The game doesn't even close from steam. Is a shame. Maybe in the future i can change my review if the issues are solved

Сейчас в это невозможно играть (смотреть). Может когда-то на Спектруме это и был шедевр, но сейчас это очень странное интерактивное кино с очень устаревшей графикой.

So this is what a British invasion feels like? I like it.

Really cool as one of the first steps in the history of interactive art but in 2023 Deus Ex Machina doesn't hold up at all. All you do is move a pixel around the screen doing nothing while visuals change every five minutes as they sync up at 80s new wave and spoken word music with a vague plot about a clone/robot fighting the system and then dying of old age or something. Its a cool historical artifact but I found no enjoyment in it even though I admire it.

Broken. Can't quit the game or pause. Pressing escape will exit the game but it will continue running in Steam library until you force-quit Steam application. Can't even get a refund because I didn't notice it was running in the background for 10 hours after I quit the first time.

This game is weird but kinda based. Get it if it's on sale for sure
