First-up, this looks super-charming and clearly has a lot of love put into it. I'm not recommending it tho, because... Controls (360 pad): they're a bit woolly and a bit "work when they feel like it". Jumping, for example, works when you're in JUST the right spot - which is made fiddly because... Camera: a lot of the difficulty of the game comes from the fact the camera shows relatively little of your environment meaning you have to either memorize routes or 'guess' the right angle to make a jump. Maybe this is intentional - it's not fun tho. Time/Health thing: you lose health constantly - eating stuff extends this and gives score. I understand this is a way of balancing score/speed but added to the controls/camera thing it can get a bit frustrating Lastly, pressing [Escape] kills the game instantly - second game I've played which does this - WTF!? It's pause/menu on almost every other game (bar 1 - obv.)!!? Summary (tl;dr): interesting platform/racer with poor controls, limited camera view. Probably a good speedrun game - less fun if you're just playing it for fun tho
Got this from Alan and Vic and it is amazing!

Heyyo, it's a decent little time-killer. The art style is really well done! It's just a score/speed attack kind of game where you rush to get through the level and rack up as many points as you can whilst trying to keep your shark fed so he doesn't die. It also talks a lot about how humanity pollutes and harvests the world and in an odd way promotes shark violence against humans or something. This game I'd say is better suited for smartphones though... it's one of those mini-game kind of games that are good to spend a few minutes to kill when waiting in a lineup, waiting at a medical clinic or waiting for your oil change... it's not the kind of game I'm motivated to play when I'm sitting at my PC with so many great titles to chose from. :P
I've played it while it wasn't on Steam and I will play it again. The graphics are really great. Adorable fishies everywhere. Music is mild and nice. Controls are a bit competitive. So is the game. You race against the clock, trying to score as much as you can. If you're into such games - you should give it a try. The only thing I'm not ok with is that pressing the "Esc" button quits the game immediately.
Derrick the Deathfin is a great game full of fun and enjoyable moments, it might not be perfect but if you can grab it on sale then there are a lot worse ways you could spend some time. Check out the video below for my full review along with my attempts to become number 1 on the game's 4th level. http://dai.ly/x1zsxgn
https://youtu.be/OCAnq_PGzyY Derrick 'Eco' the Deathfin is a shark out to avenge his parents for being turned into canned meat. This side scrolling ?platformer? builds a colorful paper craft world for players to race through. Jumping out of the water is a major mechanic and it is executed poorly. The camera doesn't lead the player turning most jumps into leaps of faith, while the exit velocity and angle feel very inconsistent.
Excellent original game, 10 out of 10, would shark again.
Derrick the Deathfin is a very very beautiful game... kind of old school underwater platforming game, recommended for the visuals alone!
Playful, entertaining game with lots of interesting visuals.
I just want to give this game a positive review for I think it deserves it. I've been following Derrick The Deathfin since the Steam Greenlight days and had it sitting on my wishlist ever since. Then, some day, it was released, but had not attracted too many people, so review-wise it was unclear if the game is worth its price. Also, through all the sales that happened the past years, the game never was on discount - until now. And it is really worth it: - The story is rather rudimentary, but presented humorous andy funny - tasks are varying (in ok manner for the size of the game) - the papercraft artwork is astounding! - animations as well as the game itself run pretty fluid As mentioned by others, the controls for a 2D platformer are somewhat unprecise, but you can get used to that. Also, some tutorial or hints on what is to do (second boss, for example) would make it easier to understand how to progress. Overall, Derrick The Deathfin is a good-looking, rather short experience, but for the current 2023 winter sale discount (not even one dollar / euro) I fully recommend checking this game out.
