After playing a lot of really bad games, its nice to finally pick something up that is actually good. + is positive - is negative = is neutral - the price is a bit high, its 1.5$ per hour, but not anything extreme. - the plot is kinda plain. I don't see many plotholes, but also character dialogue sometimes feels forced or awkward. With some emotional parts not really needing to be emotional, and some non-emotional parts being abrupt and simplified. + the art is insane, its easily some of the most impressive design i have ever seen in a pixel art style game. It also melds with the gameplay to make some really wild stuff. The devs really tested the limits of what was possible, and it shows. + Gameplay is super fun, each chapter you get a spell, and you get to use it properly, it never feels forced the way it does in most games with mechanics. Everything you earn feels helpful, and not a hindrance or unnecessary. + While there are some chokes, especially near the end, and some hitboxes feel a bit wonky, most of the level design is really solid, and again, a lot of experimental 3d art is found throughout the game combined with some insanely good graphics. - The game tends to be poorly optimized, at least the version you just run from the get-go, i did experience lag during specific large enemies and actions, this does not have anything to do with my pc, which im currently running a 5070 (and other similar specs) Over all, this game is heavily riding on its amazing visuals, and unique gimmicks, and it completely delivers, It is a very solid game, and i see now reason for anyone reading this to ignore it.
I'm going to thumb up this game even though I completed only the first 3 levels of the game and I'm not going to bother continuing - at least not any time in the recent future. Reason being the game is GREAT for what it is - an ACTUAL old school platformer - with all its charms and its flaws. The reason I personally am not going to bother playing more of the game is simply because I found the difficulty settings not doing it for me. The Normal difficulty is the right way to play the game - but like true old school platformers-style, it requires a couple of retries to complete a level. The checkpoints are quite farther apart, and there are limited lives. If you run out of lives, it's game over and you start the level all over from the beginning. The game does have the perfect amount of challenge on Normal, but I simply just don't have the patience or time for it. The Easy difficulty on the other hand - gives you unlimited lives - I appreciated this change, but what bummed me out was that the bosses - which are the most satisfying part of the levels - die in few hits - making the game WAAY too easy. I feel there could've been an intermediate difficulty where you just get unlimited lives, but leave the boss difficulty the same as Normal. If at all that gets patched in, I would LOVE to get back into the game. As it is right now, it's for a very niche audience - and I believe a simple intermediary difficulty setting between Easy and Normal would've definitely pleased me.
What a great surprise is this game! I had a megadrive back in the day when I was a kid and I must say: This is a true classic of the console already! It reminded me of Golden Axe and Decap Attack and even got Sonic references as well I confess that the Caastlevania rip off stage was unecessary and felt odd Where this game really shines is in the gameplay and Soundtrack departments The theme for the cemetery and the mountain stages are total bangers And the final theme encompass everything that the megadrive era delivered: relief and joy for finishing a game with a simple and triumphant melody Congratulations for everybody involved Keep making games! God Bless
I wish I could time travel so I can give this gem to my young self. Could have been a serious challenger to the Castlevania series by this time!
Thank You Neofid Team Great Work!
Overall, pretty good old school game. Input is tight, feels comfort. Some of the hit check is kind of weird, but not out of place. You can use cheat to enable hidden character, but that character won't beat a lot of the boss(maybe didn't implement that). The really only downside is that, boss fight feels like puzzle, not really a fight. If you figure out, some will still post a challenge since the timing can be tricky.
