I really dont understand the mechanics of this game. In short it seems like a great game but trying to understand the combat has left me with a situation where i seem to be going out backwards with no indication whether or not anything i do has any effect at all and it seems like it really has no effect at all. the story seemed great as well as the atmosphere it was making but it seems to be let down by the combat system and theres a bug where when sometimes entering a house the game just crashes something about an invalid map path or something.
DELUGE is a masterfully atmospheric game in which you play as Hudson: a reanimated skeleton with a moral dilemma. As a player, your attention to detail will be tantamount to your puzzle-solving abilities, as everything in DELUGE is intentionally placed in order to help you progress in the game. The puzzles provide a decent challenge and are anything BUT cliche. While this is also not a classic horror title, DELUGE has moments of genuinely frightening elements to watch out for and enjoy, if that's your kind of thing. Though the game is on the shorter side, DELUGE is perfectly crafted to give the player a fully satisfying and immersive experience with Hudson and the town of Figaro. 10/10 -- Can pet dog.
DELUGE is a deceptive, sneaky little RPG. It feels like a game that's been around forever, so it's still hard to believe it's only been around for a couple of years. Taking on the role of Hudson, a resurrected soul charged with committing murderous deeds for an unknown evil entity, can you break free of your curse and save the day? Or is the town of Figaro doomed to its fate? This isn't your standard RPG chock full of random battles and level grinding. The battles are sparse and scattered around the heart of the story being told, which is the main focus of the game. The dialogue and the characters are all woven together wonderfully as you explore Figaro and dig deep into its history and the people who live there, including yourself. DELUGE has a lot of fantastic elements to it, and you may well encounter some things you may not expect from an RPG Maker game. And for this price point, you'd be silly to not give this game a try! Long story short, BUY DELUGE.
Warning, contains some spoilers; Review based on Version 1.2 Overall: Deluge is a short, narrative-driven game made in RPG Maker 2003 about a small town called Figaro. Over the course of the game you begin to unravel the history of the town and the game world and gain an understanding of who the characters are, who you are playing as, and how it all fits together. You play as a freshly risen skeleton, one that has been given sentience by its master; a litch/dark entity called Ganglim. You are given the task of clearing Figaro of Human life and are left mostly to your own devices for a good portion of the game. Game Mechanics: There are not a lot of custom game systems in Deluge, and the ones that are are seamlessly integrated into the game so you don't notice them. Most of the game play in Deluge is puzzle based with several fights through out the game. Some of the puzzle's, in older versions, were not quite advertised enough and took a bit of thinking to figure out how/where to start. More nudges have since been added. Audio: The game shines here. The audio design and production in this game are top notch and the audio creates the perfect atmosphere. All music in Deluge is custom. Battles: There are few battles in Deluge, at least compared to most RPG Maker games. Battles can be tough, at times, if you do not have any items and each fight has a few ways that they can be resolved. Deluge includes a "Pacify" mechanic similar to those used in Undertale-like games so there can be different story events based on choices during battle. None of the fights feel unfair, but some do take good strategy to beat. Writing: The story of Deluge is one of discovery. You start off knowing very little. As you explore the game you will find books of all shapes and sizes that help you to fill in the past events and you will find cut scenes that will show you flashbacks to your former life that explain who you are and what happened leading up to the start if the game. Deluge's story is one of the Human condition and it is very well paced and written. Level Design: The game takes place across a single town; Figaro. There are several buildings and several other connected maps. Most are well designed, there are just a few issues here and there on the ones that I am calling "not well designed"; they are still very well built. This game includes a "door" indicator similar to other 1997-2001 era games, such as FF7, to tell you where exits and entrances are. Progress through the maps are done via keys, so there is a natural progression through the town until you find the Skeleton key, which then opens up most of the game map for exploration. Balance: The game is balanced to be on the more difficult side; not Dark Souls level hard, but also not your typical "Normal" either. If you don't use your skills and items in battle, you'll be seeing the graveyard a lot. Item placement and amounts are almost perfect, unless you really get rolled by an enemy, you should have enough of everything to deal with the fights given that you get fully healed after most fights. Overall Deluge is a banger of a game and short enough to complete in one sitting. Everyone should buy and play this game. My review score is a 9/10.
Awesome game! Tons of heart and soul put into it! https://youtu.be/fE4PU3FH88g
Deluge is Riggy2k3's latest endeavour in RPG Maker, and I can safely say that it is most certainly his absolute best even though I've never seen his previous works (finished or not) - Deluge is just that good. Graphics Deluge uses at least 90% RTP graphics with a few nicely original looking sprites and system graphics thrown in for good measure. Dialogue windows do away with the system set textures entirely and are instead represented by translucent black speech boxes. The RTP that is here is mostly unaltered, but there's a decent amount that has been recoloured or darkened to fit with the game's tone and it all works brilliantly in the game's favour. Gameplay The gameplay in Deluge mostly revolves around completing simple puzzles and defeating enemies in a very straight forward version of RPG Maker 2003's default battle system. The gameplay in Deluge isn't innovative and doesn't strive to do anything terribly new, but what it does do is expertly executed by a man who claims to have no released full games under his belt. Much of the game is spent solving puzzles in the small village of Figaro. This involves going from house to house looking for keys, but also determining how to pacify inhabitants that you come across and how to locate the evil minions that you have to defeat to ultimately move onto the final big baddie of the game. The default battle system doesn't do anything too new, but Riggy2k3 set it up in a way that is really enjoyable to play with. There is no "attack" command, and the skills you have in battle are largely dependent on who or what you are fighting. For instance, when you run into a panicked villager who wants you out of their home, a "pacify" skill will be added to your arsenal that you can use to try and deter them from fighting you. You also pick up a cool summon ability that lets you add zombies to your party mid-battle to help you out. The summon ability? Essential! You'll find out why! Story Pretty straight forward, but I won't give away the bulk of it since you discover it from playing. The gist of the story? A scary grim reaper has ventured to the village of Figaro where he has risen several skeletons from the dead and has tasked them with eradicating the entirety of the village's population. You are one of those skeletons, and you are awarded sentience by your master before he sends you off on your way. The path that your skeleton takes is pretty interesting as he discovers memories of his past life and ultimately decides to forge his own path that may or may not coincide with his master's bidding. The story in Deluge isn't super deep, but it is very well written and the overall narrative is excellently crafted. Sound This game has amazing sound! The music in the game is all original and super fitting (and it's not ALL creepy/scary as you'd expect), and every track fits into each given scene very well. The sound direction though, that is where this game really shines. There are so many unnerving moans, whispers, and ambient environmental sounds throughout this game that are placed PERFECTLY. No sound is mismatched with any given scene, and the ambient stuff is all tremendously atmospheric and immersive. Riggy2k3 definitely has an ear for sound direction and it shows marvelously in Deluge. Atmosphere The general atmosphere and vibe in the village of Figaro is dark, dreary, eerie, mysterious, ominous, and so many more things. I feel like I covered this enough with the visuals and sound, and I don't really want to ramble and repeat myself. The atmosphere in this game, with the sort of emotion it will evoke in players, is extremely engaging and immersive. Overall Riggy2k3 says that this is his first finished game. I call him a liar because this game is amazing. It only takes you somewhere between two to three hours to complete, but I easily could have played a full length game like this that sees you go on a larger overall quest to stand up against the evil entity who raised you from your grave. Deluge is awesome, and if you've got a few bucks that you're willing to part with, it is absolutely worth grabbing and giving a play through. Well done, Riggy!
Saved my marriage.
Great game, well worth a play through, also check out the developer's YouTube content! https://www.youtube.com/@Riggy2k3
Completed. It's alright..but it's missing some special sauce.
Ever listen to a song that you wish was longer? Well Deluge is the game with that description. Honestly so much was packed into this game. The amount detail and lore in this story you could tell Riggy2k3 poured their heart into. I really can't wait to see a second installment of a new game by Riggy. Highly recommend if you like horror, halloween, skeletons, and spooky.
