Let's go back to the beginning. ^^

Introduction
Delicious - The First Course is a time management game developed by SQRT3 and published by GameHouse. It is a remake of the very first Delicious game although the original isn't available on Steam. As is the case with these games, you take on the role of Emily, who dreams of becoming a chef. Her journey takes her to many restaurants with various themes, honing her skills so that she can become the chef that we all know and love. ^^ As for the gameplay, there are both story mode and endless mode. With story mode, you can choose from among the usual three difficulty levels. 80 levels are available, with each restaurant having 20 levels. In each level, you serve customers as quickly as possible, making them happy so that you can earn a lot of coins. Of course, the diamonds are available as well when you earn 5 stars for each level. The usual mini-games are back, from tracing the lines for cappuccinos to quickly clicking on pizza toppings. Before starting the level, you have access to a shop in which you can purchase upgrades for menu items and interior upgrades. Also, you can hire people to help out in the restaurant, such as Angela, Emily's younger sister who cleans tables for Emily. All of these upgrades and helpers can be purchased with coins that you earn from completing levels. As for diamonds, you can use them to purchase decorations for restaurants, purely for cosmetic purposes. With endless mode, it's pretty self-explanatory. Once you complete all of the levels for a restaurant in the main story, the endless mode portion of it will be unlocked. You can play for as long as you wish, and after successfully completing one shift, you can move on to the next. Regardless of game mode, there are the usual features, such as Carl the mouse (GameHouse's mascot) and the additional task. Lots of Steam achievements/in-game trophies are available, and they count towards a user's global total.
Review
It's probably no secret that I enjoy time management games a lot and especially, the ones published by GameHouse. What might come as a surprise (or maybe not lol) is that I played the original Delicious game way back on GameHouse's site, and that's when I knew that I'd become a TM fan. XD Thanks to the wonderful people over at GameHouse, I got a review copy of this game, so it's time to share my thoughts. As others who've played and reviewed the game noted, there isn't much of a story here. Basically, all we get is Emily briefly narrating about her dream of becoming a chef. There aren't any story scenes between restaurants. For those who are used to GameHouse's TMs having a story, this will probably come off as a disappointment. As to my opinion, I'm actually fine with this since I played the original and I remember that it didn't have a story. Of course, it would have been nice if this remake had more of a story. Still, I'm someone who enjoys TMs more because of the gameplay. The gameplay is fun as always. The levels in story mode are very doable. (I played on normal mode for review purposes.) Also, the upgrades help to make Emily run her restaurants more efficiently. With endless mode, it starts off easy but gradually gets more difficult with each shift. It gets especially crazy later on when it seems like the flow of customers never stops. lol Still, getting all of the achievements is very possible. Granted, you'll need to replay levels for some of them, and as for endless mode, just remember that for one of the achievements, you need to get through 20 shifts (at least) to obtain it, which can take quite a while (45 minutes in my case). With the art, it has the same style that's familiar in the newer Delicious games. It has a slightly cartoony feel and the colors are bright and vibrant. Because I played the original, I will note that this remake does improve upon it in that there's way more variety with the restaurants. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3621196034 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3621195885 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3621196295 In regards to the music, there's a great variety with the tracks. Since the restaurants vary based on the food that's served, the music reflects that. For example, the Indian restaurant has an Indian music track while the Taste of Freedom restaurant serves dishes that are reminiscent of the 1950's, so the music reflects it. The music tracks fit very well with their respective restaurants.
Conclusion
Would I recommend Delicious - The First Course? If you like GameHouse's TMs because of the stories that are narrated, with gameplay being secondary, then it might be a bit of a letdown. However, if you like TMs more for the fun (albeit at times, challenging) gameplay and/or you like getting lots of Steam achievements, then it's worth a look. Personally, I enjoyed the game a lot, and I got nostalgia vibes. I just wish that we had access to the original game on Steam, mainly because people can compare it with this remake. For the asking price, it's worth it if you're a TM fan and you want to play this right away. Otherwise, you can wait for a sale. Finally, I'd like to thank the awesome people over at GameHouse for the review copy. It was great to take a trip down memory lane to witness Emily's beginnings, and I can't wait for future adventures. ^^
For more detailed, fully complete, high quality reviews like this, please follow The Introverted Gamer, prioritizing heart and soul always. ^^
GameHouse titles are known for their heartfelt, cozy stories that tug at the heartstrings through charming character interactions centered on themes of family, romance, and friendship. Unfortunately, Delicious: The First Course breaks from this tradition. Inspired by the game that launched what is arguably the studio’s most iconic series, both this special edition and the original are pure time-management experiences, entirely devoid of narrative or cutscenes connecting the levels. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3613387776 Despite the absence of a storyline, the familiar gameplay mechanics from the rest of the Delicious series (and most other GameHouse games) are still here. The staple mechanic of using coins earned during each level to hire staff who help deliver orders, clean tables, or boost customer patience, along with various restaurant upgrades, remains intact. As Emily, players will take orders, prepare meals (some requiring multi-step ingredients or cooking time), serve dishes, collect payments, and keep the restaurant tidy. The challenge comes from juggling multiple customers at once, each with different patience levels and order complexity. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3613387893 To compensate for the lack of narrative, Delicious: The First Course includes a unique feature exclusive to this edition: Endless Mode. In this mode, players choose a restaurant type and tackle an escalating series of levels with no breaks in between, pushing their time-management skills to the limit. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3613387647 Delicious: The First Course includes 37 achievements, most of which unlock naturally during a full playthrough by completing all levels with three stars and fulfilling every objective. However, one achievement is tied specifically to Endless Mode, requiring players to survive 20 consecutive stages. This is a challenge that can take 45 to 60 minutes. Aside from that, the main game typically takes around 10 hours to complete. I am beyond dissapointed. This game feels so souless without the story. This game is 100% gameplay, 0% story or context. We don't know why she's working at all of these restaurants, who owns them, nothing. It's so hollow. Which is a pity as the graphics and gameplay are great. However, without the story it feels incomplete. I can't recommend anyone picking up this game at full price. For those that are new to this series, every single game before this had a lovely story woven within. Some of the tasks during your shifts were even related to the story as you'd have to accept packages, talk to people, serve special guests, repair / build / prepare things as the story needed it. I would recommend any of the previous games in the series if you want the real experience.
This game is disappointing. The Delicious series has always stood out with the touching stories it had about Emily and her family. There is no story in this one. None. In the beginning there's a few cutscenes where
Emily talks about wanting to open her own restaurant and how she needs the player's help to get experience
. That's it. You go from one level to the next, from one location to the next and everything feels mechanical and soulless. That said, the good thing is that the game is more in theme with the previous Delicious series entries than that whodunit the previous entry was. Still, it's not worth buying in full price if you're hoping for an actual story. If that's not what you're looking for though - it's not too bad.
if you only want play levels, where you serve food and upgrade kitchen, than it good game for you, but story wise only one cutscene on the beginig
This is a remake of the first Delicious game, in which we meet Emily and play through 8 restaurants (80 levels). It shows how strong the gameplay loop is even without the story. There are no missable achievements, and completion takes around 11 hours. Approximate amount of time to 100%: Around 11 hours Estimated achievement difficulty: 2/10 Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1 Is there a good guide available: You don’t need a guide Multiplayer achievements: No Missable achievements: No Grinding Achievements: No DLC-Only achievements: No Speedrun achievements: No Time-gated achievements: No RNG-achievements: No Does difficulty affect achievements: No, you can play on easy and still unlock all the achievements Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No This game is a remake of the original first game starring Emily. This game in the Delicious series has no storyline, just eight different locations for a total of 80 levels and an endless mode for each location. You get customers in your restaurant and have to fulfil their orders promptly. However, you get more points for making combos of the same action. So you might want to pick up the items for multiple orders and then deliver them in a row. Delicious: The First Course offers many upgrades that can be bought with the money you earn from playing levels. You can hire personnel to deliver and clean the tables, for example, but you can also improve the restaurant or the recipes. I love the GameHouse games and was already missing them when this one came around. It is just so addictive to fulfill the orders and make combos to even get a higher score. I always thought that the stories in most of those Time Management games were a little over the top—great, but unbelievable. Honestly, this game made me realise that I also love the stories. I did miss them a bit, while the core gameplay loop is still addictive and fun. It was nice that Delicious: The First Course has 20 more levels than the other games, which makes up for it. None of the achievements are missable; most are for completing the game. There are achievements for all the bonus objects, finding the mouse in each level, and having a clean restaurant when the day ends. There are also a few achievements for playing the endless mode, which is unlocked after completing all the levels within one location. I give Delicious: The First Course 4 out of 5 stars.
Story is Emily wants to be a cook and we are helping her learn different recipes. No cutscenes, achievements aren't hard to get, just take a little time. Enjoyed the "mini-games" each place had, though some felt a bit basic. Enjoyed the upgrade system and ability to have "staff help" though, would of liked a "Upgrade available" or something to let me know I had one waiting instead of having to check every level.
love games like this
Excellent remodelling of the first game. Fun upgrade dynamics. Fresh introduction of Emily.
Love this series of games. Always a fun way to pass the time.
