About
Welcome to Definitely Not a Cult, a game about running a “completely normal” community where everything is a little too friendly, a little too weird, and a little too cult-adjacent to be an accident. Build, upgrade, gather resources, unlock new systems, and keep your members in line while trying to maintain the illusion that everything is under control. Even when it clearly is not.
If you like games where comfort slowly turns into suspicion, and suspicion turns into a meme, you are in the right place.
The pyramid is watching. The town is whispering. Everyone is acting normal. That should worry you.
meme-heavy atmosphere with low-key paranoia;
base and community management;
strange characters and even stranger events;
achievements;
Russian and English localization.

If you like being in a cult, you have to buy this.
A visual novel with management mechanics. Being drawn into a cult, we need to develop it and recruit new members. Meetings take place in the basement. Also, keep an eye on your reputation, faith, and money.
Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
This was slapped together with the godawful Ren'Py visual novel construction kit... enabling terrible authors to publish books as if they were games when otherwise we might have been spared the pollution. So, just like no professional writing took place here, no professional software development took place, either. This is another fake game from Atomic Fabrik/GamesforGames, once more using another fake account to try mislead gamers about his identity (Atomic Fabrik is already banned from Steam for the same kind of review manipulation that appears on this AI slop). Once more moving on from asset flipping to something even worse, this is 100% AI Slop... a vibe coded "game" made by prompting ChatGPT to fill out Ren'Py with AI slop images, AI slop writing... the whole thing is AI slop. Worse, Atomic Fabrik deliberately violated their mandatory requirement to disclose the use of AI slop, to further mislead and scam gamers. Visual novels/e-books are the worst way to try read a book (and they're always written far worse than real books too). Imagine reading your favorite book, be that War and Peace or The Davinci Code (are you ok??), but you have to click the mouse for every single sentence that appears. You'd hate it. It's a garbage way to try read a book... and even if it wasn't, this still isn't a game. Now imagine that experience with much worse writing. If these guys could write professionally, they'd be in bookstores. They wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam. But here we are. NeuroSlop Studio/Atomic Fabrik have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this E-Book is mostly just 2D static text/images... it might as well be a web page. It's functionally no different from a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the E-Book can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC.
Warning: Review Manipulation! This E-Book features a number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian, broken English or ChatGPT AI slop, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the E-Book launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the E-Book, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this E-Book should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. Due to the 2024 FTC ruling (16 CFR § 465.4, 15 U.S.C. § 45), these fake reviews are a violation of US Federal Law.
Let's talk about pricing and the actual value this has for gamers. Is this E-Book one of the best of the 140,000+ games on Steam? Definitely Not a Cult has the greedy, cash grab price of around $10 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. The use of AI slop is a direct insult to gamers and real, ethical content creators and artists everywhere. AI models are trained on copyrighted intellectual property without permission from the owners.
It’s a choice-based visual novel about managing a community. You have to grow your follower base, increase your budget, control faith and paranoia, and deal with a government inspector. As you progress through the game, you can use cult items like the Holy Carrot to increase
The cult, crossed out... the circle of flat earth witnesses, reopens its doors. Join us, adherents, crossed out... smart people. And of course, don't forget about the money!
One play through took 11 minutes.. should not be sold as a game...

Definitely Not a Cult is an offbeat management and narrative-driven indie game that embraces absurd comedy from start to finish. Developed by Total and published by Neuroslop, it presents players with the amusing challenge of creating and expanding what is supposedly an ordinary community, even though every new discovery suggests otherwise. The game's tongue-in-cheek humor is built around the contradiction between its reassuring title and the increasingly suspicious situations players encounter, creating an experience that is more playful than sinister. Rather than focusing on serious themes, it delivers a satirical adventure filled with quirky personalities, strange events, and a steady stream of comedic surprises. The gameplay combines light resource management with story progression, allowing players to recruit new members, expand their settlement, gather materials, and unlock additional facilities that help the organization grow. Its systems are intentionally simple, making it approachable for newcomers while still offering enough progression to keep players engaged. Every upgrade introduces new opportunities and challenges, encouraging players to carefully balance growth with the unexpected events that frequently interrupt daily operations. The gradual introduction of mechanics ensures the game remains easy to understand without sacrificing its sense of momentum. One of the game's greatest strengths is its writing. Conversations are packed with dry humor, exaggerated optimism, and self-aware jokes that constantly remind players not to take the experience too seriously. The narrative cleverly builds intrigue through increasingly bizarre circumstances while maintaining a consistently comedic tone. Every new recruit, mysterious occurrence, and suspicious request contributes to an entertaining story that thrives on irony. Instead of relying on dramatic twists or horror elements, the game keeps players invested by making them wonder just how much stranger the situation can become. Visually, Definitely Not a Cult complements its humorous concept with colorful artwork and a charming presentation. The welcoming environments contrast nicely with the increasingly odd behavior of the community, reinforcing the game's central joke. Character designs and interface elements are clean and appealing, helping players remain immersed while navigating menus, completing tasks, and managing their growing organization. Combined with an upbeat soundtrack and polished presentation, the audiovisual design creates an atmosphere that feels simultaneously cozy and delightfully suspicious. Although management is an important part of the experience, the title prioritizes accessibility over complexity. Resource collection, construction, and community expansion are satisfying without becoming overwhelming, making the game ideal for players looking for a relaxing experience rather than an intense strategy simulation. Those who enjoy deeply layered management systems may find the mechanics somewhat limited, but the streamlined design allows the storytelling and humor to remain the primary focus throughout the adventure. Replayability is supported through branching decisions, multiple outcomes, and hidden content that encourage players to experiment with different choices. Exploring alternative paths reveals new dialogue, additional jokes, and different story developments, providing worthwhile reasons to revisit the game after completing it once. Achievement hunters and completionists will also find extra incentives to uncover everything the strange little community has to offer. Overall, Definitely Not a Cult succeeds by fully embracing its ridiculous premise and delivering an entertaining blend of narrative comedy and accessible management gameplay. Its memorable writing, quirky world, and steadily expanding progression create an enjoyable experience that stands apart from more conventional simulation games. While it may not satisfy players seeking highly detailed strategic mechanics, it consistently entertains through personality, creativity, and clever satire. Fans of humorous indie games with light management elements and unconventional storytelling will likely appreciate its unique charm and willingness to lean into its wonderfully absurd concept.
