I was genuinely hopeful for Deck Casters. A combination of deck-building, RTS, and MOBA sounded like a good concept. The fact that the console version of this game was somewhat successful as well, particularly for a small studio, added further to my interest in the game. I have tried my utmost to get this game running at an optimum level on my rig (i5-4690K, 16GB RAM, Nvidia 980 running Windows 10) which is far and away better than the minimum specs. I was planning to do a gameplay video of the game. I have all of the latest drivers, etc. for my hardware. Unfortunately, the game runs extremely poorly regardless of whatever I try to do with it. I posted my concern with the game's optimisation on the discussion boards here on Steam. Others have asked questions of the developers as well. Sadly, the level of commitment to communication with the potential buyers of the game has been well below par. To put it simply, they have only responded to one comment. It was in regards to the differences between the console and PC ports as they have different names. As Maghook Gaming discovered this version of the game has fewer features than the console version. Make sure you read and upvote his review as it features quite a bit of research. Additionally, there has been no launch discount that has been applied to the game which has become standard. This is especially the case for largely multiplayer dependent games from indie developers. The US$16.99 price for the game is a prohibitive barrier of entry for a studio releasing their first game on Steam. I argue that this is especially the case given the recent winter sale. Insofar as this is a single player game, its only intention is to teach the players the fundamentals of gameplay so that you are prepared for the multiplayer. Again, it does a poor job. The actual in-game tutorial is nothing more than a few screens of information. It doesn't teach players new to the genre what they're supposed to do. The actual singleplayer game mode essentially forces the player to learn the game for themselves. It is far too vague and not intuitive for beginners. Unless the developers have a change of attitude, begin making themselves available on the discussion forums, and actually show that they care about their game and its potential player base, you can almost consider this one to be dead on arrival. Unfortunately, I cannot possibly give this game a thumbs up in its current predicament. Should things change I'll be more than happy to revisit my review and make the changes reflective of the game in its (and its community's) state at that time.
Deck Casters is created by a Singapore based developer named Rock Nano Global, who also released the strikingly similar ArmaGallant: Decks of Destiny on the PlayStation 4 back in April of 2017. Neither of these three names I've ever heard of previously. Watch my "What is Deck Casters" video about the game to learn more about the developer. While the original did not receive much exposure, and the general consensus was that ArmaGallant was a poor game overall, I can't see this name switch saving Deck Casters from the same fate - especially when it appears there are features missing from this iteration that were available on console, such as gaining experience and earning gold which allowed players to increase the power level of their decks. There also appears to have been loot boxes at some point. As I've been playing a pre-release copy that has received daily updates I assumed these features would later be re-added into the game to support additional payment methods and the Steam marketplace, as Deck Casters is a straight console to PC port of ArmaGallant, but the developer has confirmed that gold, experience, and booster packs will not make an appearance in this version. I find it a fair bit disingenuous for Rock Nano Global to state on the store page that Deck Casters is "based on" ArmaGallant: Decks of Destiny when it is essentially the exact same game. Deck Casters has taken away the "carrot on a stick" that would keep players coming back to the game. This console port is made more obvious due to its barebones options menu - where full-screen does not work as intended and allows my mouse to escape the game's borders onto my second monitor - and the hotkeys offer nothing more than what appears to be a button-to-button remapping of the PlayStation's DualShock controller with no option to rebind the keys. I found the controls to be seriously clunky and difficult to navigate the map, there are too many primary keys reserved for single units and groups. I would prefer to use my mouse wheel to scroll through the on-screen deck and use WASD to move the camera around the map but this is only possible, as far as I know, with the directional arrow keys located halfway across the keyboard. Deck Casters is underwhelming and lacklustre, in mechanics and content. It seemed exciting on its surface but after an hour or two of playtime I've come to realise that the amount of freedom I've been given makes for a boring experience; there are 100 cards but many of these are simple reskins with varying stats and powers. The game allows players to combine any cards into their deck with no incentive to match certain monster or spell cards as there is little to no elemental synchronicity, no strengths when combining certain cards, and no weaknesses to prevent players from creating mechanically broken decks. I managed to win against an Insane difficulty AI with no spell cards and the most basic units that cost 1-2 mana each. Seeing as each of the two maps require players to capture and hold points on the map in order to damage opponents, it's much easier to spam dozens of low level monsters to capture these points and reserve one high level monster as the card deck's champion. The AI of these monster units is frustratingly unpredictable as they will often stand completely still while they're picked off from a distance by airborne enemies, even when directed to engage in battle with them, or they may chase enemies across the map when they should be protecting a point of interest. Flying enemies have an advantage as they can cross the map unhindered by obstacles and poor pathfinding. There is very little effort put into the gameplay of Deck Casters and even less effort put towards the game's tutorial, which consists of a small amount of text highlighting areas of the screen, and the overall lore of the game world - even more text that doesn't offer much to expand on the concept of the story and its themes. Why there was so much time between the release of ArmaGallant on the PS4 and Deck Casters on Steam, and why the game's name was inexplicably changed is a mystery to me. I was unable to participate in any online multiplayer due to the low playerbase during the pre-release but I can't really see myself wanting to go back upon release to try it out.
First off. I love the idea of an deck building real time strategy game. This game is far more interesting than games like Clash Royal. I want to give this a thumbs up but it's just not welcoming to new players. Pros: You get the whole game for one price Models are cool looking Cards look awesome Variety of gameplay (2 maps 100 cards) Champion card (always having access to a creature) Cons: No tutorial Not much is explained Limited voice lines Terrain is hard to read I had to figure out how to play the game by myself. It's pretty similar to other games that I have played so I got it but if there was someone out there with less gaming experience, they would stuggle quite a bit. I don't mind games with low player base. It's not the game devs job to bring players. I can also play single or with 1 other player so that is fine. The idea of 2v2 sounds awesome. I think this game would best be suited for people who like games like Magic and games like Starcraft. If I had 3 other friends who enjoyed that style of game and we spent a whole night playing 2v2, crafting new decks and just goofing around, that would be AWESOME. But alas, I don't have that. The price is more than the typical $14.99 indie title. I don't like nixing games on the price but if I could get 4 copies for 30 bucks and just play it for 4 hours one night with 3 other friends, it would be worth it. I played to the point where I don't lose and I don't think I'm great at the game. I'm certainly interested to play more. I want this game to succeed but I also want an honest review. I do QA for games, so if the dev wants to reach out to me to help turn this game around, please contact me. I would love to help out!
I was excited for a fast paced game based on a customized deck. I was expecting a story mode or campaign. This game was neither. The game plays slow and the only option in is to play against AI (there is an online option but there are no games or reason to play online). The game has the core of something really great but is far from ready for the public. There are much better ways to spend your money than this.
The idea is cool , but the product are boring. Ths RTS part is NOT good enough to have fun or enjoy it.
节奏长 四不像游戏摸不着北 怀疑好评都是刷出来的??
Gameplay Video and Review: https://youtu.be/8hxDCwz3HS0 The developer of this game was kind enough to give me a early review key for the game, so I thought I would check it out. I was really surprised when I played it because of how fun it was. The mix of deck building, RTS and MOBA gameplay works so well to create a fun game with a ton of replay value. By building decks with the giant selection of cards means you can play how you want. The game looked great and ran well (even when I was recording). But I was only able to play against ai as the game wasn't out yet but I still enjoyed it. I would definetly recommend this game!
Scrolling around feels unusually clunky, the units are actually only slightly different from each other in practice (maybe if you git gud then the minor distinctions in how they heal and circumstances where they self-buff become important, but when just trying the game you just have to put more units up against fewer units), and the random card draws mostly serve to sometimes annoy you with a hand full of spells you don't really need and can't easily get rid of. Oh, and the single player mode is definitely not the mode they were hoping people would play, which is too bad when there's nobody else playing.
Deck Casters is a game that defies genre rules. It's like Hearthstone meets Warcraft. Strategically battle across varied maps with an army of magical creatures and electrifying spells. Deck Casters brings deckbuilding to life with fast-paced, RTS gameplay and tactical combat. You get to build uniquely powerful decks made of five elements. You can use your core deck in solo matchups or 2v2 team battles. The best part of Deck Casters is that you master various card combinations to create a deck of unstoppable force.
The game doesn't work at all... when i try to do an AI batle i can't see the cards i draw. there are no online players. when i try to visit the website it sends me to huge domains.com . i regret buying this and i will ask steam for a refund becouse this is just a lore page about mythical creatures. The game doesnt work. I like the concept though....
