You definitely do not want to play this without playing Chapter 1 first, while the developer called them "Chapters" they really should had been one full game together. While the first Chapter was more of an RE1 inspired game with an interconnected mansion, this "Chapter" becomes a complete linear affair, closer to "Layers of Fear" with some segments where you go around shooting things. It may not be the epic resolution to this story that I was hoping... but if you played the first "Chapter" you have to play this to get narrative conclusion.
First the bad out of the way, there are no options\settings in this game and I mean NONE!! Can’t change controls, can’t invert mouse, no gameplay\FOV options, 3 graphics options which don’t seem to do anything let alone save which option you want. I had to use ICUE and Synapse to get my KB/M setup the way I wanted and had to scour around to try and figure out a way to invert the Y axis. I finally found a solution and I posted it in the community discussion for this game if you need it. The default FOV worked OK for me and I suffer from bad headaches with games that have a really low FOV. The second chapter is much short then the first at only an hour to an hour and a half but it was a satisfying end to the game. There was more combat in this chapter but still had the same vibe as the first. Definitely worth picking it up but once again BE WARNED that you cannot customize any sort of options in the game. This may be a deal breaker for some. Get it on a good sale if you are curious about it
Decent indie survival horror game. Compared to the first part it is shorter and way more linear but I don't mind that too much. At least now you don't have to aimlessly walk around not knowing what to do or where to go. And the performance seem to be much better in this one.
Deathbloom Chapter 2 is just more of the same from Chapter 1 with the same formula of a terribly confusing corridor/hallway maze where you are instantly killed for going the wrong way followed by the same poorly optimized house where the frame rate drops constantly. The hallway labyrinth might seem scary at first, but that quickly turns into an annoyance after you are repeatedly caught and are forced to replay the same lengthy sections over and over. You also still cannot remap the controls and there are still no graphic options other than good to fantastic. There are still the same sort of flickering floor textures that were in Chapter 1, the same crackling/glitching sound, no manual save, checkpoints that are very far away, and awful aliasing issues as well. Shooting zombies is also just as lame as in Chapter 1 where gunshots don't seem to affect your target until the death animation. Overall, I just cannot recommend either chapter in the Deathbloom series.
I highly recommend both chapters for this game. While I did enjoy the first chapter more, this had all the same pros from my review for that chapter. This chapter did have a few segments which I found to be much scarier than what the previous chapter provided, so that's definitely a plus.
Chapter 2 is much better than chapter 1. So why do I recommend the first but not the second? I HATE the final fight. It's really not fun to play. I died 3 times until I randomly found the solution, what the hell I had to do. You fight the chainsaw man and countless skeletons. But the man is no problem. The spawn rate of the skeletons is what ♥♥♥♥♥ it up. And you can barely see your actual task,
attach the valves to the pipe in the room with the floating cages
It's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating to die because of the damn slow motion when you kill an enemy and too many skeletons in the narrow corridors from all sides and no clue what the game wants from you because it's too dark, nothing is highlighted =(
„Deathbloom: Chapter 2” to zwyczajnie recykling poprzedniej odsłony z jeszcze większą liniowością i korytarzowymi lokacjami. W takim wypadku wystarczyłoby dodać do rozdziału pierwszego urywek niniejszego (nowa lokację – bunkier), aby zgrabnie to zakończyć i odbiór produkcji byłby znacznie pozytywniejszy. „Deathbloom: Chapter 2” to totalne rozczarowanie.
Enemies take too much life from you, no medikits and life does not go back to the next level, from mid-game it becomes frustrating and very unbalanced. Game not recommended for non expert players.
