♥♥♥♥ you devs, you put this on sale at Xmas and then cancel the development after a bunch of people buy it. No way to refund this on steam. I played it for 30 minutes. It was a barely complete level.
Game has been dead since the summer. Save your money until the devs become active again. It's sad to see this happen but Myth still exists and people play, I recommend that for now still.
Overall a very fun real-time tactics game that is unlike any contemporaries I know of, and very reminiscent of the old cult classic Myth. The core gameplay loop is impressively solid, polished, and very fun. The possible depth of skill and tactics is vast. The combat is meaty and satisfying. Cooperative play is tactical with potential specialisation. Definitely more fun with friends. Downsides: - Learning curve is likely steep for people who never played Myth or other small-scale real-time-tactics games, and it can get a bit frantic (especially if playing solo rather than co-op). - At time of writing the core gameplay is excellent, but the "content" is rather slim in terms of the number of maps / levels / different kinds of units. I have no doubt more is soon to come, so I'm not worried about that. And there is plenty of depth in the core system to keep you honing your skill. Unusual features / Key differences from Myth: - They had an interesting idea to reduce micro-management by abstracting out "special abilities" away from specific units and putting them on to the player. For example, you don't have to find and select your medic to use a "heal" ability on another unit, you just select the ability directly then apply it. You choose which abilities you bring to each battle in a manner similar to Diablo 3, where you can mix and match and experiment with synergies between different abilities. I think this is a really interesting idea to solve the micromanagement of unit abilities, and I think it works very well. - In the campaign and co-op modes, there is a "soul essence" bar that fills up as you deal damage, and you can spend it on powerful abilities, or spend a huge amount to ressurect a unit (proportional to the point value of that particular unit). This was apparently to help make the game a bit more forgiving, and to solve Myth's problem of excessive saving and reloading to undo any minor mistake. I think this is a very cool system and overall a good solution to that problem. - (This only applies to co-op) For progression, you unlock new abilities like Diablo 3, and you can find "gems" that give passive bonuses (e.g. archers have longer range) if you choose to equip them for a battle. I like the fact that if I want to, I can choose to use no gems and get to put myself on a level playing field with a new player in co-op. Gems only exist in co-op and solo play so it isn't a fairness issue in PvP. But it is nice to be able to remove my advantage in co-op so that I'm not dominating the game when I play with a new friend, and we can both be equally useful. This was a huge problem for Diablo 3, because whenever one of you advanced several levels beyond your friend, the other one would be useless in combat, and Deadhold fixes that problem by just letting you remove your gems to balance yourself out. I have been waiting for a gory real-time-tactics game similar to Myth for a long time, and this is exactly what I wanted.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!! THE DEV TEAM HAVE FAILED AND ABANDONED IT!
Dead game don't buy.
Finally a real strategy game like Myth! Big fan of Myth aka was my favorite childhood game. Still to this day their is no game like it until now. My friend and I have been talking about "myth" for a decade hoping somone would redo it and here it is :)!! Im stoked, very stoked and so far my first impresion is alot better then I expected. Wasn't sure if I would like the change in units but so far their very cool. The movement and the gameplay, micromanaging works excellent! I hope they add more things like fetch aka their lightening adds a ton more strategy. Also similar things to motars, heron gaurds, giant myrks, mauls, soulesses and c4 :) but of course their style!
Took money and dropping the game. couldnt even get a refund on the this game even though its dead in the water.
game feels 100% faithful to myth
tl;dr if you like Myth, you’ll love this game (even in its Early Access incarnation) It’s been a long time… since I was so excited for a game! Yes, it is quite a bit like the Myth I and Myth II games (and that’s a good thing) but Deadhold is its own animal. Deadhold adds some finely tuned 3-D goodness, ’splodey physics, a healthy portion of 21st C thinking/game play along with some new ideas about how spells and items could enhance different gaming styles. The single solo map is short but showcases some of the game’s potential. For me the real fun lies in modes like coop Horde or multiplayer FFA or team play. MP is fast and frenetic, the strategies enlivened by skillful use of spells and a very limited amount of healing (1 dose). Get on with a couple buddies - or grab a few players from the MP lobbies - and enjoy blasting the undead or each other to bits, lots and lots of gory gibs and bits. The devs are engaged and cranking on the app and new maps, modes, units and items are in the works. For example we haven’t met the Frost Giant in solo, but on some MP maps you can play with up to two Frost Giants. It is an Early Access game so it is a long way from finished, but game play is smooth even on my middling 2015 iMac. No show stopping bugs, no weird glitches, no goofiness, just carnage and RTS game play. Horde has yet to play the same way twice and if you experiment with your units and load out of spells, runes and gems you can tune the game to your play style and explore other avenues (can I win with nothing but ranged units? how about nothing but melee? two Sappers and the rest Rangers?) The spells and extras are limited at first as you learn the ropes, but if you nab a dev or higher level player and play coop the game scales your level to more closely match theirs, giving you a taste of the more powerful spells and abilities. Great start! For carnage apply Deadhold to the forehead. This game goes to 11.
FIrst of all I have to admit that I for one am a big fan of the Myth games and all of such memorabilia in connection even. I love all of Bungie's works too on top of that. But his however is just not worth the price. Now having said at the same time that being first of all this is in its own way a very enjoyable game to play but before anyone jumps to any conclusions there are a few important pointers I need to warn about. Pros of this game: * Very enjoyable strategy game within the same or similar enough understanding of what were the Myth games. Adapted within that for a more modern era. * Some very enjoyable to play independent scenarios where you can just keep fighting with whatever forces you have and building on your score within that regardless with no end whatsoever. Just totally all out fun king of the pile survival. When it comes to action packed fantasy games what more could you want when accurately speaking it comes to it. Within how I accurately mean. Cons of this game: * As I write this there has only been one level in the entire game made (so far anyways). So then whats buying this so-called game all for if all you can for that over-expensive price is enjoy the value of merest online downloadable shareware. Nothing. Utterly. What a rip off and waist of money. Talk about your hopes up for nothing. *As I have already mentioned and nonethless within how I am meaning to refer to, the only levels in this game are the first one and just one (pretty fun to play at the same time though) survival level where you have to kill as many enemies as you can in order to stay alive as the last man standing on the top of the pile. So then, enough said. Thats litterly it and thats litterally all that you are paying for this overpriced piece of what should be deemed as merest downloadable shareware even. That which should be free for what it is but isnt. Regardless of in such instances as ludicrous as they are where you have to feed the monkey or not. Conclusion: All I can say is that when Bungie were making either Myth, Oni, Marathon or Halo they may have always given these free demos, but they never bothered to release the game until it was absolutely perfect for the customers to play. Im not saying that doing so is a bad idea. But then again and at the same time I cant necessarilly say its a good idea either. At ths same time then again and as I say, not necessarilly. So my advise to those of you whom love the Myth games and are a big fan, which I myself most definitely am, maybe consider laying off this game until it is entirely and fully made not to mention fully comlete without any glitches to it either. Far out dude totally.
