The developer of this game approached me via email to ask if I, a "content creator", would be interested in it. I figured, eh, it doesn't look awful, maybe it'll be a decent half hour of whatever. I admit my eye isn't especially well trained to spot Unity Asset Store flips, but this game does make it pretty insanely obvious - most of the stuff in this game comes from within the first page of search results for very basic terms, and there are really, really clear signs (like screens that outright say "OFFICE PACK" on them) that this isn't really the creator's own work. Even beyond the asset flips, I wasn't thrilled with how guns work, the economy isn't very well balanced, grenades are too dangerous to use in 90% of situations, it's too easy to get stuck on things, and there's only really two kinds of zombies (walking and crawling). It comes off as a frankly amateurish rip-off of Killing Floor 2 - I'm pretty sure the shop interface is meant to be a complete mirror of KF2's, in fact. On the technical end of things, I found that the game would slow down a lot for no reason (an underperforming machine will actually bog down the game speed, not just the frame rate), the ACTUAL slow-motion effect takes entirely too long (fortunately you can force it to end by reloading), there's a Melee Attack key but it only works on a small handful of the guns, controls cannot be rebound, menus indicate support for gamepads but my gamepad was doing absolutely nothing...there are things in place here that make me wonder if the devs did anything more than rudimentary testing on it. I haven't paid for it, but in my opinion, neither should anybody else. If what you're after is a by-the-numbers zombie shootin' game, there's so many better ones out there for your $15.
Whilst this game is a bit of fun, unfortunately, I can't recommend it, at least not for the price tag. Basically, the game is lower quality and smaller version of Killing Floor, the graphics look good with plenty of blood and gore if that's your thing, but I'm afraid its let down by the low-quality gameplay and controls. Hit detection can be way off, damage doesn't feel much difference between weapons and so many invisible things you get stuck on around the maps, zombie variety is few and far between as well, there isn't a great deal to it at all. I didn't have any performance issues tho, but the controls do feel slow and clunky so everything combined just stops the game from feeling fluid IMO. But overall I have had some short fun on this, the achievements can be completed fine but for 100% its a grind, the game just needs a lot more variety with everything and bigger, better maps, then they need to clean it up and rework a fair few things and make it run a lot more fluid and interesting instead of having to just spend hours standing there firing your pistol at the same wave of zombies over and over.
From my Steam refund request: It crashed twice in the few minutes I played, but multiple additional technical bugs popped up in just the few minutes I tried the game, including being stuck in a doorframe, watching zombies spawn-pop in just a couple dozen feet away, realization the arenas were tiny.....hell, realization that it's just a survival/horde mode game and nothing more. This was horrible....it had one negative review already and I thought the guy might be trolling but nope, it was actually worse than he said. On the plus side: the art assets weren't too bad and it looked about like it does in the pics. If this is Unity 5, I wonder what a really good game would look like using that engine?
The game contains three maps (with some time-of-day variations) that are small and consist of narrow pathways that make it far too easy to funnel zombies in a line. The difficulty and game length (using the same number of waves as Killing Floor 2, though without the boss) can be adjusted. The is no multiplayer available. The weapon variety is very limited, and there are no classes for special abilities. Researched upgrades can be done between games to improve accuracy and health. Health packs are useful to heal, and grenades are very powerful against the groups of zombies. There are only two enemy types in the game (walking, and crawling on the ground), and zombies can be easily lead into certain death by sprinting back and forth down the same straight path and then aiming for the head. Bullet time is stolen directly from Killing Floor 2, and the gore is not as convincing. Dead Purge: Outbreak is a direct clone of Killing Floor 2 that is worse in every area and doesn’t offer anything new or different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug7RZ_BFF-4
Here's a short video review I made for the game. It gives you a good idea of the gameplay and how the game works. Video review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVRc34waW5E In short, don't buy this game. It lacks multiplayer, a variety of game modes, weapons, maps, etc. It feels more like a demo than a full fledged game. The game itself does actually look decent graphically and sounds ok. The combat is ok but it won't leave you engaged for very long, especailly without multiplayer, and only two modes, horde, and survival. If you're really hell bent on getting the game, wait for a steam sale. As it is right now the asking price is way too high for what essentially feels like a demo.
My favorite part is the grenades that can blow up the entire map and crash my computer
The game looks great, they picked some solid assets and it performs decently well on my 1070 up untill you max out things like the more advanced anti aliasing. Otherwise this is a pretty strandard issue zombie horde shooter. You can either do it in waves, or an endless survival mode which depends on drops from the Zombies you kill. There is a small variety of weapons you can buy and unlock, but nothing super interesting. Just your run of the mill military weapons. Everything works in the current build (I had a few interface bugs which made the game unplayable initially), but there's just not much to do in the game. Its pretty but boring. (Full Disclaimer: I received a copy of the game from the Developers for free) A developer whose track record consists of billiards and mini golf games, then churning out a "survival" FPS zombie shooter? That already sounds like the death knell for this game out of the gate. Regardless, I went into it with an open mindset, as I have certainly been surprised in the past by the likes of Contagion. I was sorely disappointed about 10 minutes in. While the overall polish looks decent for a first entry into the FPS genre, everything went downhill from there. There are probably about 4 different zombie models and 3 maps, alongside 2 "different" game modes. And I can't help but assume that a lot of these assets were purchased off the Unity store (or at least could have been) as they are so woefully uninspired. Uninspired is probably the word you'll be thinking most during any period of time you play this game. The gunplay isn't abysmal but there's no real weight to anything you do. The zombies listlessly attack from seemingly 2-3 feet away. The environments have a good look to them but still feel like a UDK template. And the lack of any real challenge or increase in tension just turn this into a shooter template Unity could include with their engine as a jumping-off point. If you're looking for a game in this same vein that would actually be fun, Killing Floor has been free in the past and does this type of game unspeakably better. Don't waste $15 on this. The only way they could redeem this would be to MAYBE add in co-op and reduce the price to less than $5. As for now there's no reason to purchase this game. Very generic. Not recomended. I only played for about 10 minutes, but I feel like I've seen the whole game. Not good for a game that costs $15. I mean, it LOOKs nice enough, but it doesn't play well. The environments are very small, even the outdoors ones. The weapons, are unsatisfying. (Maybe the unlockables are better, but that doesn't help. Why should I play long enough to unlock them?) All of that combines to make it feel like you're in an old Benny Hill sketch. The winning strat is to run backwards in a small circle.
