This game misses much of the tower defense aspect of a TD game. Much like Embers of War (which seems to be missing from the Steam Store), Dead Ground relies too much on your player running around and providing support. Pros: Procedurally generated tower defense ("Unlimited maps", Yay!) Rogue-like Randomly Generated Items ("Unlimited items", Yay!) Cons: Not enough focus on towers Too much focus on "Hero" The sound track is good at first, but quickly becomes annoying Rogue-like If you're a die hard Tower Defense fan this is worth a look, if you get it on sale.
This wasn't really such a great game in my estimation. Certainly not good enough to warrant further play. It's a lane tower defense game, but the emphasis is on your avatar and not the actual towers. Beyond that, the actual gameplay was kind of boring. The music however was catchy (there seems to only be one track though). You base screen is very nice looking, but the actual combat map that I played on was lackluster. Which actually was my impression of the game overall. It's not really a bad game per se, and has some okay RPG elements included, but it just didn't grab me at all. Especially when there are many, better options out there. However, as always, YMMV. 4/10
If you found this review helpful and would be interested in supporting my Curator group, it would be appreciated.
Dead Ground
Second title that we ShotX Studio with which we could say that they try to revolutionize the classic system of tower-defense games, adding several RPG elements and a constant action that goes beyond putting turrets and wait for the enemies to advance. Let's discover together the post-apocalyptic world of Dead Ground. Positive Points •Artistic style very different from what we usually find and that sticks very well with the type of game. •Good atmosphere in general, both in sounds and music. •The possibility of random events happening as we progress through the game. •His style of play is totally different from what we have seen before, it can remind us of several tower-defense games but with touches of shooter and rpg. •Variety in different elements that we find inside the game, in them we can put the enemies, the weapons or the improvements that we can make. •Something that characterizes the game is to be able to move constantly throughout the map without any impediment, which gives a higher free action. •A few places to unlock with what will make the crossing easier. •During the combat several altercations will happen that significantly modify the course of the final result of the same. •You will almost never find a battlefield that is the same as another. •The developers listen to the community and the most important is that they consider the project so that every few days they get updates fixing many of the problems. •Although you do not believe it, it has very original achievements that when you get them out will give you a laugh. •A post-apocalyptic HUD that fits perfectly with the theme. •You can choose from many personals which you will unlock as you progress. •When creating a game you can select artifacts, which you will unlock while playing, and which will give you bonuses. Neutral Points •There are a lot of bosses, different, along the levels but the only thing that makes them special is that they have a lot of life. •Many options to modify within the preferences of the system but that are very basic. •The animations are basic in their majority but you find one or another that are very funny. •The requirements to play it are low but we can also say that his graphics are not the big deal. •The absence of a Co-Op recently, although it is forgiven because we are in a game that has not yet gone. Negative Points •In window mode, many of the game objects, specifically letters or words, can not be displayed correctly. •A tutorial which is too simple and leaves things unexplained. •In many situations, the shots go where they want and not where they are pointing. •A great incoherence in the enemy troops, as it is possible that zombie dogs act together with humans to kill other humans. •His story is very underdeveloped or basically is null. •The difficulty curve increases very quickly with the passage of time which leaves the new players empty. •You can not choose a difficulty in the game. •Your shots are camouflaged very easily with the NPC shots so you will find several situations in which you will not know if you are giving or not to the enemies. •No missions or tasks which we could complete so there are no rewards, which results in no compensation to continue playing. Conclusion It is a game that is in early access and has not yet left, so we can deduce that developers have much to learn worse but has great potential and is able to revolutionize the tower-defense genre that was lost in the time. I recommend giving an opportunity to this title, whether it is in offers or not. Let me say this: Tower-Defense genre isn't something i enjoy like others, but Dead Ground is an exception. Reason behind it lies in a fact that it feels unique, it has a deeper mechanics than your standard Tower-defense game. You can control a hero (there's variety of heroes after you unlock them) directly on battlefield, moving around map, using skills and shooting at enemies, this one honestly was one of the main reasons why i enjoyed playing this game, cause i'm not a fan of just "place tower to shoot enemies" gameplay. Purchasing and selling equipment, collecting resources, improving base are all part of game too, levels feel unique and road events interesting. Also as a big fan of Soundtracks (In movies and in games) i can say that this one matches mood of game and it's atmosphere and they complement each other. I can't say i have played it a lot for now, but from what i've seen so far i want to give this game recognition it deserves and want to see more games from Dev - ShotX Studio. First steps are correct and future seems bright. So keep it up.
Dead Ground
Tower-Defense Die postnukleare Welt.
The most love hate game I have ever played pros: -Very fast paced shooter game with Tower defense elements. You are not bored - do you like farming loot and etc? You can save and quit the item of the day varies -The soundtrack is badass -It is like Borderlands loot system common, uncommon, epic and legendary. You can sell items and buy from vendor but drop rates are good! Cons: -When you die, you have to start over again (This is frustrating) but the kill achievements requires you to do this. This can be good because it forces you to play well -The Gattling towers are very useless don't build except for the achievements Overall: 7/10 Tower defense (Kingdom rush rush being 10/10)
Bought and returned it. Only played two levels. So, the description says, "Procedurally generated levels". To me that meant the lanes were going to be randomly generated, First and only two levels I played the lanes were the exact same, maybe with some random environmental hazards and the mob varied. After my first permadeath, I found a really good sniper gun that made the game much easier, which made me think that the game would randomly make it easier if I just got lucky enough to find a superior weapon early on. I really wanted to like this game since I can't get enough to tower defenses, but the idea of what the game is supposed to be doesn't seem to be ironed out. It almost feels like the rogue-like elements was tacked on with the hopes of it turning this game into a decent game. As I mentioned about finding that really good sniper rifle, this game feels like your success may be dependent on finding a good random drop rather than earning it by other means.
Ehh it's an interesting concept but really not done well. The upgrades feel worthless most of the time so you eventually just get overwhelmed trying to do everything yourself rather than relying on the towers.
