[/quote] Day of the Dead: Solitaire Collection ist wie der Name schon sagt, ein Tri-Peak-Solitaire-Spiel, ganz im Namen des mexikanischen Feiertages „Tag der Toten“. Wie alle neueren Spiele von Green Sauce Games, hat es auch eine Controllerunterstützung spendiert bekommen, was es deutlich komfortabler mit Steam Deck oder am großen TV zu spielen macht. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3245055958 Es gibt reichlich zu tun in diesem Spiel, geboten werden hier wieder 100 spannende Level, die gegenüber dem Üblichen schon einiges an Abwechslung bieten. Zuerst die Tatsache, dass jeder Abschnitt aus eigentlich drei Abschnitten besteht, das macht die Level deutlich umfangreicher. Dazu kommt noch die Tatsache, dass jedes Level eine besondere Zielvorgabe hat. Wer hier also „nur“ alle Karten abräumt, hat noch nicht gewonnen. Ziele, wie „Eine Kombo aus x Karten ohne Karo“ oder „Kein Fehler“ sorgen hier für Abwechslung, ziehen aber auch den Schwierigkeitsgrad angenehm an, ohne dass irgendwie Frust aufkommen könnte. Zwischen den Leveln können wir üblicherweise unseren Bereich mit allerlei Kosmetikkram verschönern. Aber zusätzlich hat die Kosmetik einen großen Nutzen, denn für das freischalten bekommt man zusätzlich Diamanten spendiert. Nur mit diesen Diamanten lassen sich Spezialfähigkeiten freischalten. Diese werden in den späteren Abschnitten auch öfter dringend benötigt, um die immer schwierigeren Zielvorgaben zu erreichen. Aber keine Sorge, eine künstliche Verknappung, da die Diamanten nicht unendlich erspielbar sind, findet hier nicht statt, zumindest für mich nicht. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3245055763 Es bleiben sogar nach dem Durchspielen noch genug Diamanten übrig, ich hatte am Ende noch fast 2000 über, ein fünfer Satz der Spezialfähigkeit „Joker“ kostet grade mal 60 Diamanten, oder „Zusatzkarten“ im Fünferpack für 72. Von den besonderen Angriffen gibt es neben dem Joker noch reichlich andere, für das Genre sogar recht unübliche, wie zB. das „Farben tauschen“. Aufgrund bestimmter Vorgaben sind manchmal Farben hinderlich, hiermit kann man sie von rot zu Schwarz oder umgekehrt verwandeln. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3245055868 Zusätzlich findet man in diversen Level neue Figuren, mit denen man auch sein Kartendeck neugestalten kann. Es sind genug zu finden, um am Ende ein komplett anderes Deck zu besitzen. Es ist also für reichlich Abwechslung gesorgt. Ich kann das Spiel bedenkenlos jedem empfehlen, der mit Solitaire was anfangen kann, denn hier gibt es ordentlich was zu tun und es hebt sich vom üblichem Schema bei solchen spielen ab. Und wer auf Errungenschaften steht, der wird auch reichlich belohnt und die 100% sind in einem Durchgang zu erreichen. I'll say right off the bat that I happily recommend this game to anyone that enjoys solitaire card games that have some flare to them. If you understand how the game works, and you use some decent strategy, it's not a particularly hard game to play. The Day of the Dead aspect adds lots of color and personality, and I really enjoy that. I would also say that this one is better than the first one (Tales from the Day of the Dead). I plan to 100% complete this one, and would much appreciate it if Valve would remove their Limited Features restriction on the achievements. I do have two caveats about the power up cards in this game - one is that I sometimes have to click multiple times on the power up card that I want to use before it finally works. This becomes very annoying. And the second thing is that I don't like the way the power up cards constantly move and rotate. I understand that they did this to save game space on the screen, but I find it annoying, and once again clumsy to click on. Otherwise I think this is a pretty darn good game. Now look into my soulless eyes and BUY IT!

This is green sauce games second solitaire game on steam both having a Mexican theme. If you have played the first game then this has the same look/feel but it is different with random cards, gems and actual area you can decorate being the main differences. What I love about this and their last game is the very rare gameplay of level objectives. As this is a simple one up/down gameplay it needs something different in each level other than the usual boring ‘clear all cards’ that every other developer does. It’s not that it makes this game hard it doesn’t, it just adds another layer of interest. The deck could be tweaked a bit to make it less likely you’ll get a card you can use but I much prefer this type of gameplay than the usual boring gameplay of redoing a level multiple times to perfect a hand with nothing else of interest to keep you engaged. That’s not hard just boring. This is interesting but it certainly could be tweaked a bit. Maybe they could do a hard series of solitaire games as well as a relaxing easy series. I like that there are 3 hands in every level, that you can run out of cards in a round maybe by trying to get the objective. There are no unlimited powerups all powerups are ‘bought’ (free) with the gem system that they use in their M3 games. Unlike some of those games, the gems here are generous as the solitaire games aren’t the equivalent of some of the M3 games (if you are trying to play M3 on limited moves you can run out of gems quickly) as this is still easy, even with the objectives. You get the gems by ‘buying’ items from the store to decorate your cemetery but once you buy everything in store that’s it you can’t buy anymore. You can get more money if you replay levels to buy the gems. But it’s still a relaxing game and unless you are going wild buying ridiculous amounts of powerups you will easily have enough gems to buy everything you need for achievements and enough to get you through a level. Another nice option is you can choose what your cards look like, not just the back of them, every other dev does that, but the front of them as well. You get characters as you play the game then you can go into the collection and choose how you would like your cards to be decorated – a mermaid as a Queen perhaps? I wish they had added steam achievements from the beginning as a lot of people filter games by achievements, see there aren’t any achievements and move on from the new game release, never knowing achs were added. I hope this dev goes and adds achs to all of their other games that still don’t have them. It’s a 100 level game, no timed achievements (thankfully). There isn’t a story with this one like there was with the first game, here it’s more of an odd comment in your ‘decorate your cemetery area’. I miss the story. As these developers have not only put in achievements but bothered to put in level objectives along with some nice options of useful store/decorating area as well as nice graphics and it’s a fun game, I’m doing a full review. If you played the first game and enjoyed it, you are likely to enjoy this one as well. Both games have a story that gives small insight and history of el Día de los Muertos. The game is creepy and cute. Nothing too scary- suitable for kids (with parental supervision- to help explain some images and the history of the holiday). Yes, it is going to have a lot of grind to complete to 100%- like pretty much every other solitaire game out there (lots of replaying levels to earn gold and get 3 gold skulls (stars). You can replay any level at any time . The limit is going to be spending gems wisely- they seem to be finite, so a replay from the start to get gems to buy power-ups to use X-number of times is going to be a thing, like it was with the first game. Really fun to find new cards and customize your deck with new characters on the cards. You earn gold to buy items to decorate the cemetery for the holiday celebration (because The Day Of The Dead is a celebration, not a scare-fest), and the purchase of items gives gems that you can use to buy power-ups that you will need for later (more difficult) levels. The full price is not bad for the number of hours the game gives you, the bundle price is better, the current deep discount during the sale is incredible. The art is colorful and engaging. The music is good, and you can adjust the volume in settings. Runs great on a toaster- no super-beefy rig needed. Nice casual game- the only achievement that requires playing for a long time without interruption is the "Play 15 levels in a row" one- you do have to complete 15 levels without exiting the game. Best done early on, when the levels are shorter and easier to complete.

Simpler than the first game, because they lowered the individual level goals (especially later on), yet with the same loosely on solitaire based ruleset, this is a game for when you want to chill out and not having to think about anything in any greater way than necessary to farm the achievements. I got what I paid for and I think on a discount this game is quite worth it. It just is no 'Fairy Solitaire' and that's true by a long run. If that's okay for you and you want something to relax to or do some layed back achievement hunting, go get it. It won't take too long.

[i] My Experience [/i] In many ways, Day of the Dead is a rather standard +1/-1 solitaire entry. You're trying to clear peculiarly-arranged stacks of cards to meet an overarching goal. In this game, you're collecting gold to buy decorations for a graveyard, and recovering the souls of the dead (I think I got that right). Every time you unlock a new decoration, you'll also be provided with a number of blue crystals. These blue crystals can be used to buy powers that you can use in the levels to clear the cards. One interesting difference between Day of the Dead and other solitaire titles is that for each level (and starting deck), you'll have to clear three consecutive layouts, one after another. Theoretically, I've never been that big of a fan of buying individual uses of in-game powers. It always seems like you could get in a situation where you're stuck on a particular level and can't afford any more power-ups, especially since there is technically a limited number of blue crystals. You only get blue crystals when you unlock a new decoration, and there are a finite number of decorations in the game. The way that Day of the Dead makes this work is that the deck is "rigged." In every other +1/-1 solitaire games I've played, you'll sometimes click through card after card in the deck looking for one you can play. In Day of the Dead, you'll never have more than one card you can't play in a row. The deck alters itself as you click through according to the cards left on the board. In one way this is nice and alleviates frustration, but in another way it reduces tension and makes the game a bit more brain-dead (more so than a casual +1/-1 solitaire game already is). Despite the rigged deck, I enjoyed my time with the game overall. I liked the attention that the game pays to suit colors, as well as the on-board card removers like the bomb, rocket, and tesla coil. If you like +1/-1 solitaire games and you've already played Avalon Legends Solitaire 2 & 3, you could do worse than to try this variant by developer Green Sauce Games.
