Database Detective: Minor Crimes Division

Awesome and fun way to learn SQL. I'm currently taking a course for Data Analysis and was searching for a way to practice because the course has been mainly theory. This game has simplified SQL and how it works in easy to understand language that really brought home some of the basics I already am familiar with. Just solved case 4! Little heads up: some data does change when restarting a chapter or returning to the game after taking a break. I.e I started chapter 4 took some notes on the in-game notepad. I stopped "playing" and when I returned I used that information to continue searching for the suspect, but some of the data had changed and I had to restart the chapter several times after arresting the wrong people, because I didn't realize I was working with incorrect information. Not a big deal, but a little heads up for anyone who might be struggling like me in a chapter! Also game is very funny and made be chuckle a bunch of times already. What a delight of a programming puzzle game. Much to my dismay, it's not the longest game in the world, but I don't think there was a moment in this game I didn't enjoy. Silly, funny, and with a surprisingly engaging story, if you want a low-stakes puzzle game to just kind of chill with, no matter your programming experience, I highly recommend! I do have a few negatives, though these only slightly detract from the experience: - There is a surprising difficulty spike around the midway mark. It feels like the game twists sharply from "tutorial" to actual game. This was fine for me, I could adjust to the new difficulty, but I can imagine that this section would turn a lot of non-programmer people away, as the jump in complexity is quite high. - A couple of puzzles have some very non-intuitive steps I admit I had to guesswork my way through [spoiler](especially with respect to a certain flaming sword)[/spoiler]. Luckily, the moleman is there to offer any tips you may need. - There is a certain level of knowledge of financial information that the game assumes the player will just kind of understand during a later level. Not much at all, and I managed to figure it out, but a bit more context here would've been helpful. - There's not enough of it! This game isn't even that short for an investigation game and I still want more! That's how good it is! If you've got a free 6 or 7 (haha) hours on your hands, I definitely recommend picking this up. A note to the developer: I plead you to implement the ability to create custom levels, even if it means via mods. The game's modularity really lends itself to custom challenges.

Did I know SQL before I played this? No. Do I understand SQL after finishing the game? Not really. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Cute art style, funny humor, a good challenge.

Lo he comprado en una oferta y he de decir que el juego es la leche (no tengo ni idea de SQL). Es imprescindible hablar inglés, pero es una delicia. 10/10

I'm dropping the game sadly. The game is clearly done with lots of love, but after chapter 5 it becomes more about assuming clues than writing SQL queries. The in-game hint system is useless, not having tabs or history on the browser is so annoying, some puzzles are plays on words that if you are not English native you won't get (plus the clue system doesn't anticipate this?) some other puzzles are literally you assuming that something is unique, or happened in a time frame, I was just guessing, not deducing before reading a walkthrough and seeing the mental hoops that the guide had to do to justify reasoning. Sadly, I think a more direct mystery game with more spotlight on actually using SQL would have been better
