interesting vr racing game, cool and detailed graphics, beautiful special effects and musical accompaniment make this game one of the best in this style and genre! A huge number of weapons and power-ups helps to be cooler and better than everyone else and to win first places. A huge plus is the distribution of players by skill level. I really recommend this great game for anyone interested in vr racing.
This is best compared to Touring Karts, another Mario Kart-esque arcade kart racing game for VR. I'll list the pros and cons of each game for you here... Pros of Dash Dash World: 1. Beautiful and highly animated maps. Great theming on every map. 2. Decent wheel support. I used a Logitech G29 and had minimal issues. 3. The drifting and drafting mechanics are really good, and the gameplay feels exciting all the time, even when it shouldn't. Cons of Dash Dash World: 1. Maps don't change elevation dynamically. If you're looking for this kind of effect in your racing maps, go with Touring Karts. 2. The menu system is broken and has debug text shown in some places. 3. The game has a lot of odd behaviors that aren't necessarily broken but could be done a lot better. For example, loading screens show comics to the side of you instead of in front of you. And those same comic screens are what lets you know it's done loading. Otherwise, you're staring at a black void, wondering when the game will start. Pros of Touring Karts: 1. It's cheaper and a lot of people get it through Viveport Infinity or via game bundles. It has a larger playerbase because of this. 2. The input options are a little more versatile, and the presentation of the input options on the start of the game is nice. Wheel support is also fine in this title. 3. The maps move and change as you're driving. You get areas of the map changing into tilts rather than flat land. I don't really see this affecting races much, but it's a cool effect. Cons of Touring Karts: 1. Visuals are pretty awful. A lot of low poly geometry and almost nothing of interest to look at. 2. Very limited gameplay elements compared to other arcade kart racing games. Power-ups feel too basic a lot of the time, and when they aren't too basic, they're too unwieldy. Most players didn't bother using the projectile power-ups in my experience. 3. Very dull map designs/layouts. Nothing strikes me as exciting or interesting except the changing elements. 4. No effort put into theming or storytelling at all. No lore. No interesting characters. Dash Dash World is worth the $20, and you probably won't regret the purchase, but know about the problems before going into it. It's crazy glitchy on the menus but seems fine during the actual races, where it matters most. The game is a blast, and I highly recommend it even to players of Touring Karts.
TL;DR DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS NOW SINGLEPLAYER-ONLY AND FURTHER DEVELOPMENT HAS CEASED. This game should only cost $5 at MOST. Leaving it up on the store at full price with an inaccurate depiction and description is not only greedy, I imagine it might break some sort of TOS to misrepresent your game for sales. ----------------------------------------------- Storytime(aka, the Long Version):: Once upon a time, Dash Dash World was THE best VR Kart Racer. Interesting tracks with diverse designs, multiplayer support-- it was like a dream come true for anyone who loved the genre! Then, after a few years, the updates stopped. We had a "Coming Soon!" entry on the maplist that never came. The devs/community managers stopped responding to players. Sales would come and go with no discounts applied to attract new players to the community. The experience plateaued and then became stagnant. More years went by and, out of nowhere, on April 25th, it was announced that they were officially sunsetting the game's support and development-- within one week. On May 2nd, they would release two new tracks(tbh, they're variations on each other, not diverse like their previous maps), and they would also be shutting down the multiplayer servers. That's correct. A Kart Racing game-- a genre built on the rush of racing AGAINST YOUR FRIENDS-- had decided to shut down the multiplayer servers. No options to host your own servers, no options to set up dedicated servers, no options to rent servers and only one week's notice. Honestly, the only time most people would play Mario Kart alone was so they could learn the track and do better AGAINST THEIR FRIENDS next time they raced. The studio, by way of apology, made all previously-exclusive cosmetics now attainable from the in-game store, so you could grind solo matches against bots for-- what? Cosmetics that NOBODY can see? But, don't worry-- they also assured us that they'd leave the game on all the stores so people could still pay to play. And they have! However, no discounts to reflect the ending of support and the loss of a CORE feature like Multiplayer. In fact, to-date, a FULL 4 WEEKS after their update, this and their meta store pages still list among their features:: "Race up to 8 friends" and "Cloud save" and "Cross-platform play" and "Regular online tournaments". Tournaments haven't been a thing for YEARS, yet it's a feature they use to sell their product. If they wanted to end with some better vibes from the community, they could've kept their servers alive for at least a week or two after the update so we could play the new maps WITH OUR FRIENDS. Have a crazy week of grinding the previously-exclusive cosmetics with your friends so you can enjoy it all before everything shuts down. Give the game a proper send-off! But, they didn't do that. They didn't spend the last two, silent years, working on adjusting their Multiplayer code to accommodate peer2peer connections or player-hosted-servers. I'm happy for my nearly-30-hours in this game because I had a lot of fun with my friends. However, seeing such shoddy support and disrespect for their customers kinda kills the vibe for any good memories.
i know many people probably already said it, but this is the closest thing we have to mario kart in vr. powerups work as you expect, you grab, and you throw. theres 3 modes for steering which are analog, immersion (basically manually gripping the wheel with your controllers), and the most best feature, having an actual racing wheel with this game.
Ok racing game, mario cart vr knockoff) Graphics are not so good (thx Quest), car physics are very very basic, almost nonexistent. Would love more advanced physics and better graphics for pc (more polygons, postfx, more gloss, better textures) Also default index bindings are trash) Who made this?? Grip for menu wut?! Stick for brakes rly? But overall feels like a polished game with a bunch of content (maps, cars, gear, challenges) If you love mario cart try it. its ok)
The game is very dynamic and driving. Each race is very interesting and unique. It was just a great decision to make racing online. up to 8 people can participate in the race at a time and none of them wants to give their victory to anyone.Grenades and other dexterities help a lot in this. Interesting racing in vr. I have never played racing in a helmet before. I liked the game for its dynamics, music and atmosphere. The music here is really well chosen. It's also cool that you can kill your opponents with weapons right on the go.
I would call this a Mario Kart rip-off, but dare I say... this is way better. Kart racing is something I didn't know I wanted in VR, but after playing the tutorial and a few online matches I can easily say this game is super fun and worth the price tag. Theres great kart and character customization, progression, challenges, etc. The circuits are super fun, especially the "advanced" ones, that have loops and crazy angles and jumps! Theres a lot of content here, and frankly Im surprised this is early access, it feels much more complete than any other ea game I've played, even compared to most fully released vr games. Some of the controls for Index are a bit odd, and gripping the steering wheel doesn't always work at the start of a race, or you have to grab it in a very precise spot. Performance is good at 120hz with a 2080ti. Would like to see integration with Steam achievements! Overall this game is great so far, highly recommend!
Thumbs up in the comment to show some love to one of the objectively best VR games ! It's rare to see such amount of polish to a VR game, and it's fun as hell with a lot of content and multiplayer ! That's a shame most VR players pass by this game, steam, put some ads on the main store page i beg you it deserves more.
I have tried nearly every VR kart racer trying to get that Mario Kart fix in VR. Everything I had tried previously has fallen woefully short of the mark, but this game has impressed me so far. The courses are detailed and interesting with lots going on including active stage hazard to dodge and include shortcuts, alternate routes, boost pads etc. About half of the courses are marked extreme and these are my favorites, they have lots of verticality like the anti-grav sections of MK8. Weapon selection is good and the interactivity of the weapons is a lot of fun. You can counter some attacks, certain exploding weapons for instance that stick to you can be shaken off with your hands before they explode or items like the eggs that stick to your face can be quickly wiped off to negate their effects. Also the minimap allows you to see long range attacks coming and move over to dodge, which is a nice improvement, feels a bit more skill based to dodge so I appreciate this touch. Lots of customization options for both your character and their kart and the story mode is punctuated with frequent rewards and unlocks. You pickup in game currency pretty quickly as well as getting reward boxes to open containing free items. The game is currently in early access so expect a few rough edges here and there still, but the devs seem to be very active in their discord and responsive to feedback. New content is still being added, but I found the 10 tracks that are included enough to hold my interest for now. You can form a party of up to 4 for public races or form a group of up to 8 for private races. So far matchmaking has been working well for me most times of day and puts me in a race pretty quickly. It's nice that there is an option to run a practice race while you queue for matchmaking. Much better than starting at a timer in a menu. I would recommend this as the one to get for anyone who has been looking for a good VR kart racer.
I'm really enjoying this game playing it using a Thrustmaster T150 Force Feedback wheel. For those using a T150 with 2 pedals (Gas and Break) you will need to set Dash Dash World to use the T500 for it to work. Thanks to the support team for Dash Dash World getting back to me right away so that I could get it working with the 2 peal only T150 version!
