I'm currently doing a challenge to play through a free game in every single category on steam. I then give an honest review using ChatGPT.
Game: 89 / 447 Category: Sandbox "Dark Light, Dim Gameplay" Let’s clear this up right away: this is not a sandbox game. While the game offers a few choices at the start, they lead to "bad" endings that aren’t punishing but rather feel empty and pointless. Beyond that, there’s not much gameplay to speak of—it’s essentially a visual novel. You play as a girl walking through an empty world, reading dialogue that hints at an interesting story but never quite delivers on it. The lack of meaningful interaction leaves the experience feeling hollow. The game also struggles with performance issues—cutscenes often glitch, freeze, or crash entirely. While the small world you can explore could have been a neat addition, it’s ultimately lifeless with nothing to do. If you’re looking for a sandbox, this isn’t it. If you’re into visual novels, you might find some value here, but the technical issues and lack of polish make it hard to recommend.

I really liked the first act. Can't wait to see how it evolves and impresses us. The artwork is amazing and feels like whoever made it was passionate, which is always a strong point. The story starts us off in a confusing way, but quickly falls back on its legs, which honestly feels fair considering the developers behind it are still finding their marks. There were a few issues I feel would be good to mention, but those are just my two cents. Visual novels are great, but Dark Light doesn't feel like one. We get to move the character around and seemingly navigate, but there really isn't much to do past proceeding from point A to point B. That's a shame. Some parts try to include gameplay, like the boat ride through the Styxx, but it comes off as die and retry, which isn't generally appreciated. Lore-bombing is also never a good idea, especially when the present characters are already aware of the facts and just stating them for the player to read. While the artwork is beautiful and does the job perfectly, some of the pixel art from the earlier segments is filled with beginner mistakes or fails to blend in. One thing I noticed even later on, but more harshly so in the cafe, is that perspective is generally rushed. The seats inside look as though we're seeing them from a horizontal point of view while the camera seems to lean more toward a diagonal or top-down outlook. Honestly, pixel art isn't all that easy, so there's no blaming them on this one. Some stuff feels like it could be fixed within a few hours, like the main character's origin point. It feels misplaced between sprites and tends to offset them during movements. Another thing would be interactions, and I fear that may be why there aren't a lot of those within the rooms. Our character can interact with objects and other characters even though they aren't directly looking at them. This bothered me a bit in Mio's room with the piano when I tried checking out her notes on the right corner and ended up playing her song a second time. Honestly, none of these are THAT bad. I still loved playing through the first act and look forward to the next. They needed to be pointed out and justified though, because they did an amazing job regardless. Making games is never easy, and putting your work out there for others to judge isn't either. Props to them for pushing forward !
"Dark Light" is a godawfully bad "interactive novel" slapped together with the plague on gaming itself, Kadokawa's RPG Maker, designed for children to use to pass little demos around with friends. And yet here someone thought it would be okay to try make and publish a product online with it... this is never really okay and always results in garbage products. The developer of this train wreck couldn't work out how to make a JRPG with RPG Maker (the only thing it can do, and it's not very good at it), and instead made one of the cringiest visual novels ever to hit Steam... all you do is walk around and then get hit with waves of tedious, godawfully written high school anime club dropout fanfiction writing. Ugh.
I couldn't save you.

Achei o jogo bem bom. Tem algumas coisas com a programação e o design que podem melhorar, mas a arte e os personagens estão bem legais. Ansioso para o Ato 2!
