About
I created Dark and Deep because I wanted to bring a totally new visual aesthetic to the horror genre. There is not a game that looks like mine. My art process is unique, bringing the illustrations of 19th Century Artist, Gustave Doré into a new dimension.
My Journey Making this Game
I have had a lifelong obsession with conspiracies and mythology. I made Dark and Deep to share my love for the strange and ancient with the horror game community. Through the 4-6hr playtime of Dark and Deep, you will be intrigued, unsettled, and mystified by the blend of strange storytelling and meaningful mechanics I have devised for you.
DARK and DEEP
You play as Samuel Judge, a loyal fan of the mysterious conspiracy podcast, "Dark and Deep". Plunged into a shadowy and dangerous landscape, you must survive... and you are not alone.
-Unveil hidden secrets and lurking enemies with a collection of mystical frames given to you by a mysterious observer.
-Battle what lurks in the shadows using your frames and ancient supernatural machines discovered in the world. Don’t let what hides in the deadly darkness steal away your light.
-Survive in a cryptic and surreal world filled with dangerous inhabitants and challenging puzzles.
Use magical picture frames to fight hidden creatures and reveal important objects. The frames are windows into a terrifying world, but also tools to banish the darkness. Unveil the conspiracy before the shadows swallow you.
Listen to the podcast. Experience the unraveling as your favorite conspiracy podcast comes too close to home. Become embroiled in a dramatic tale of intrigue and betrayal where the real and surreal collide.
Solve physics puzzles using powerful ancient machines of cryptic origin. Manipulate gravity and clear a path through the deadly fog. Use precious embers of light in the darkness to show your way. But beware… The creatures in the shadows want nothing more than to steal your light.
Dark and Deep features a totally unique aesthetic, which uses the art of 19th century master artist, Gustave Doré as the textures for much of the game. Doré was legendary for his detailed black and white illustrations of mythological and historical scenes. Dark and Deep uses his aesthetic to tell a surreal cosmic horror story where the boundaries of sanity and reality are bent and broken.

Reviews
I can’t say I really enjoyed my time with Dark and Deep. There are bits and pieces I liked: some of the puzzles were admittedly amusing, and there are a couple of visually memorable moments in the narrative. But other than that, the game kept me in a limbo of mild frustration mixed with sheer indifference – the storytelling did absolutely nothing for me, the platforming felt clunky, the puzzles became repetitive after a while, and every attempt at building a creepy atmosphere fell disappointingly flat. I wouldn’t outright call it a terrible game, but I personally didn’t get much out of it. If you're on the fence about diving into the horror genre, this game is the perfect introduction. I don't typically play horror games but something about this caught my eye. Which turned out to be a great turn because the unique art style, puzzle solving, and engaging story-line made the game a real winner for me. The art style is very unique, both eerie and captivating. Everything works together to build a cohesive world to explore. The art style really came out in one of my favorite parts of the game, the collectible "sketches" that helped tell the story. The jump scares are well crafted and placed in the game for maximum effect on the story. There are a few that really catch you off your guard and force you to engage your focus at a deeper level. My favorite scare happened the first time I fell into the "dark water". Hopefully you get the opportunity to enjoy that scare at least once. Overall I would recommend this game to both horror veterans and novices. I enjoyed trying out a new kind of game and recommend it for anyone looking to dip their toes into the horror genre.
Time to beat: 4.5 hours I wouldn't necessarily call this game a horror game. It's not scary. It's more or less a linear psychological thriller with lots of puzzles. I will admit, towards the end the puzzles get pretty redundant. Once you know what to do, you breeze right through, but I did want to know the story, so it didn't bother me. I really like the art style in this game, very unique. I am a fan of podcasts, so I enjoyed the humor/jabs made at podcasts, and the narrative built around it. You'll get your money's worth. Especially if you buy it on sale. I would have liked to see Steam Achievements for this game (Just a thought).
The art style in this game is great. Voice active is solid. The story is setting up nicely. As a fan of Cthulhu Dark, I'm here for the creeping horror. And also, I'm playing in VR. Not because the game was made for VR, or even claims to be compatible, but because it's great to experience this game amazing visuals wrapped 360 degrees around my eyeballs. So I'm modding it to work as best it and I can using UEVR. It's not without issues, but what a way to experience Dark and Deep, and I'm very excited to get through this dark story to see if it, like an episode of Dark and Deep podcasts, comes to a satisfactory conclusion, or leaves us hanging wanting more.....
This game has a really unique art style and mechanics. The landscape and change of scenery in multiple parts of the story is done in a very artistic and creative way. You will really catch onto the mechanics over time and I really appreciate the hint feature for those who are stuck and confused a lot like me :) . For such an early release I am very surprised by how little bugs I encountered. The artstyle of this game and the cutscenes are really thought out and well done has my respect :) wish this game the best and cant wait to finish it !
This game is a ton of fun! Really interesting story so far (just completed the first chapter) ! I love puzzle type games so this is right up my alley. The music at the end of the pod cast episodes is a complete jammer BTW and its my fav.
Do you know why the achievement thats tied to finishing the game has a rate of 3.9%? Because only 4 people out of 11 reviewers finished this. This game is neither an art, a narrative, or a gameplay, even an interesting story. Half of the quotes are googled, not read, as they're mostly their translations from 1800s or so (E.g. ''All hope abandon, ye who enter here'' from a damn reverend from 1814 instead of the modern ''Abandon all hope, ye who enter here'') A game that looks like this have no privilege of having fps drops at times, it ain't no RDR2, it should NOT make even a dent on anything above 1060ti. (I'm using 3070Ti and had fps drops to 30? lol) The ''battle with evil'' combat is awfully boring, just like this game. If you ask me what is the most boring horror media you've consumed, normally i'd say the movie 11.11.11, but this wins the lottery.
Total blast! Game has a very creepy vibe but is paced well with time to explore the puzzles. Podcast voiceover is a riot and take the "ads" seriously there are fun meta easter eggs. The artwork is a real draw. It has an illustrated style that goes well with the nightmare horror style. Once you unlock all the frames the game comes into it’s own as you have new puzzles and enemies to reveal.
Amazing game unlike anything I've played before. The story is stuck in my head I wont forget it..
Pleasantly surprised at this game, especially the art direction as it felt unique and not just rehashed assets/AI junk. The puzzles were not very difficult, more so just some platforming and knowing shapes. Story kept me invested and played the whole game in one stream. If you dig indie horror that stands out, this is the one.
