Try on the role of a Supernatural Newspaper Agency boss and editor. The world it takes place in is a dark and haunted one, with ghosts, zombies, monsters and even shapeshifting murderers, pretending to be human after they have stolen their victims' bodies or infiltrated the humanity.

Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.29/day in the week to Aug 25 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Let me start with that this game is rough around the edges but overall I really enjoyed it. The mechanics and figuring out how to manage characters, items and spells in order to deal with various supernatural threats was really fun and I found the game play overall very enjoyable. Where this game falls flat is mainly the story telling. It was ambitious to try to use an randomised story but the attempt failed as most of it is very uninteresting and sometimes hard to follow. However this game is not story focus and after I stopped reading it I was further able to enjoy the resource management part of this game. With that said if you experience this game simply for the game play I found it very enjoyable.

Daily Chthonicle: Editor's Edition takes an unconventional approach to supernatural horror by putting the player behind the desk rather than directly in the path of every monster. Developed by Sinister Systems and published by Sometimes You, it combines simulation, role-playing, investigation, and management elements within a gloomy world influenced by Lovecraftian fiction and 1940s noir. You assume control of a supernatural newspaper agency, serving as its boss and editor while attempting to uncover the truth behind increasingly disturbing events. The concept immediately separates the game from conventional horror adventures because information, personnel management, and investigative decisions matter more than direct combat. The town surrounding the newspaper is deliberately portrayed as a place where practically anything could be hiding beneath an ordinary appearance. Ghosts, zombies, monsters, murderous shapeshifters, and other unnatural creatures exist alongside unsuspecting citizens. Some threats can even steal bodies or infiltrate society while pretending to be human. This creates an effective atmosphere of uncertainty because reports that initially appear mundane can develop into something considerably more sinister. The horror comes primarily from discovering what is happening rather than watching elaborate cinematic scares, making the experience particularly suitable for players who enjoy mystery and imagination-driven storytelling. Your primary resources are six seasoned journalists, detectives, and occult specialists. These characters can be assigned to investigate murders, suspicious affairs, supernatural incidents, and other strange occurrences around town. The player therefore operates more like a coordinator of paranormal investigations than a traditional action protagonist. Deciding how to use available personnel becomes an important part of progressing through each developing mystery. There is a satisfying thematic connection between the management mechanics and the setting: every investigation is simultaneously an attempt to protect the town, uncover a supernatural conspiracy, and obtain an interesting story for the newspaper's readers. One of the game's most appealing ideas is that its stories are designed to vary between playthroughs. The central supernatural threat is not always identical. A series of violent deaths might eventually reveal a werewolf, while another investigation could expose an extraterrestrial creature capable of stealing bodies. Other scenarios can involve an excavated mummy tormenting unfortunate people, the mysterious return of Jack the Ripper, or something much more cosmic lurking beneath the University. This variety gives the game a pulp-horror anthology quality where each session can feel like another strange edition of the same cursed newspaper. The investigative structure benefits from withholding answers until enough information has been gathered. Rather than simply presenting a monster and asking the player to defeat it, the game emphasizes identifying exactly what kind of threat is responsible. That uncertainty fits the Lovecraftian influence particularly well. The player knows that something terrible may be happening, but understanding its nature becomes part of the challenge. The newspaper angle also introduces an entertaining layer of dark humor because horrifying discoveries still need to become stories capable of keeping readers interested. Visually and mechanically, this is a modest independent production rather than an elaborate modern horror spectacle. Its strength lies in atmosphere, writing, procedural variation, and unusual systems instead of animation-heavy presentation or cinematic production values. The combination of noir imagery and occult subject matter gives it considerable personality, although players accustomed to highly polished interfaces and fast-paced gameplay may find its presentation somewhat austere. Much of the experience involves reading, evaluating situations, issuing assignments, and interpreting results, so patience and an appreciation for text-driven games are important. Replay value is one of its better qualities because the changing mysteries encourage experimentation beyond a single campaign. The procedural nature of events can produce unexpected combinations of characters, incidents, and supernatural enemies. Inevitably, repeated play can expose familiar patterns, and not every generated situation will be equally memorable. Nevertheless, unpredictability supports the central fantasy of running a newspaper in a town where the next headline could involve anything from an ordinary crime to an ancient cosmic horror. Steam Deck compatibility requires an important qualification. The game does not currently carry an official Steam Deck Verified or Playable designation on its Steam store listing, and its listed platform support is Windows. This means it should be regarded as officially unverified for Steam Deck rather than guaranteed to work perfectly. Because the game is comparatively lightweight, running it through SteamOS and Proton may be possible, but players should expect potential compatibility or control issues and should not interpret the absence of demanding technology as confirmation of flawless Deck operation. Overall, Daily Chthonicle: Editor's Edition is memorable because it turns supernatural horror into an administrative and investigative problem. Instead of making another action game about shooting monsters, it asks players to organize reporters, examine disturbing events, uncover hidden creatures, and somehow transform encounters with ancient evil into compelling journalism. Its modest presentation and specialized mechanics will limit its appeal for players seeking action or cinematic horror, but those who enjoy management games, procedural mysteries, occult fiction, and Lovecraftian atmosphere may find its strange combination surprisingly engaging. Its strongest achievement is simply having a personality of its own, something that can be more valuable than technical extravagance in a small independent game. Rating: 7/10

Just not my thing.
Behind one of the most user-unfriendly interfaces I've ever encountered hides a rough gem of a game. I confess that I mostly got it because I liked the basic theme it was dirt-cheap (less than $1 on sale). While I enjoyed the pulp-noir Lovecraft style, at first I had no idea what I was doing and it felt boring. But once I finally got the hang of the UI and how the game works, and moved on to Medium difficulty, the game slowly began to draw me in. Figuring out how to overcome the various and increasingly alien and hideous obstacles the game throws into your reporters' way can be very satisfying. Mind you, there are some caveats apart from the very obtuse UI. At first glance this might look a game focused on deduction and investigation, and while there's some of that, it's really more like a mix of Solitaire and the boardgame Arkham Horror (and therefore also broadly similar to the much more famous World of Horror). The game really revolves around deducing your enemies' weaknesses and preparing accordingly, as well as finding good loot and allies. The procedurally generated cases rarely make for compelling narratives (though using your imagination helps fill in the blanks), so if you're expecting a game with a great story, look elsewhere. Finally, the RNG will sometimes screw you over and make completing the game impossible unless you're phenomenally lucky (another way it resembles Solitaire).
This game sat in my library for 7 years and I never really looked at it but now that I've given it a chance it's a lot of fun. It's a 90's style game, meaning it's not going to be readily apparent what you need to do. There's a tutorial, but really you have to look at the instruction book that comes with the game to really get what's going on. Honestly I'm still not sure about some of it. I have no idea how to heal an injured or terrified reporter and there's nothing in the book about it. The feel is very simple but I think the atmosphere is good. Basically you control a group of reporters and direct them to pursue leads on different supernatural and criminal activities. There's an element of role playing here where your reporters can get skills but a lot of it really is adequately preparing them for whatever you think the main enemy is going to be - monster, barrier, supernatural being, whatever. I think if this dev had written this game 25 years earlier it would have been quite a hit. But he didn't - still though it's definitely worth looking at for whatever miniscule price it probably costs right now.
