If you know d100 Dungeon (and are currently fine with playing with just the first three books worth of content, as of the writing of this review) this is a great little program. It basically takes all the note- and book-keeping aspects, the map making aspects, the fiddling of markers and tracks, all the rolls, and does it for you. I like playing the pen-and-paper style version of this style game but keep tracking of all the oil, food, poison, keys, levers, etc can take a moment to get used to. This companion does that for me and I adore it for that. It speeds up game play. I can sit down, make a new character, and just goof off on a lunch break for a couple of quests. Even better, it allows me to also go manual if I want (and let me tell you, my fear tests are cursed in the app...it's always good to have physical dice to blame). If you do not know d100 Dungeon then you really need to start there. People who just wander in are likely to be deeply confused by most things, even if the general gist is obvious enough people would know roughly what is happening. The experience is intended for you to have the book with you as you play (in print or in PDF). This is a companion, not a stand-alone game. I know it says that but just in case you found this and was wondering if you could skip the base game. For those who consider book 6 (the world-building one) essential, or the lost rules book (book 4), those are not currently supported. The game is still being developed so those might show up sooner or later but just go in with that expectation. That being said, the amount of quests and options are already pretty solid with just the base game and get even more with the two current expansions. My only real complaint is I wish there was an option to set a default view that was structured to be a bit more fully functional without needing tweaks. You have a lot of ways to customize your layout of the app but some windows act a bit funky if in the wrong geometry and it took me a couple of hours of going back and forth as I was playing to find a layout that made sense to me.
Really love the pen and paper game. I'm really looking forward to when they finally release the DLC here on steam. I think book two and three add a lot to the game.
Very positive experience. I'm using it as a tutorial for the core gameplay and it's invaluable. Not sure I would have stuck with learning everything without this handy tool. I do deeply wish it incorporated all the books as ultimately if I continue to love this I will have to play without this companion software. Ultimately for me it's an awesome Tutorial! Update: I've now log'd 33 more hours and plan to spend many more with this great title. Picked up the DLC and can't wait for more. I've also purchased the Hardbacks to add to my D100 collection! Great work, keep it up!
An excellent companion to the physical game, totally and excellently replaces the need to track anything on paper, makes for very fast and efficient play. Plus with background music and sounds, monster art, the ability to print all the sheets, notes, maps. Now even better with the upgrade including the Dragon Armour which I just played today 2 Jul 2023! Highly recommend!
I guess for a "companion" game, it works... BUT it really should just be its own stand alone text based game. Charge a little more for it, if you want. But based on that, I cant really recommend this.
I was really excited when I found this game on Steam. It is a good time killer and enjoyable solo RPG. It would get a thumbs up from me if it didnt crash, all.the.time! I run Windows10 and this game keeps crashing, every 5 minutes or so. I even reinstalled it and it still crashes. Devs need to fix this! This could be a fun game!
The game is a great solo dungeon crawler.
Really enjoy this game. If you need a good hack and slash with out a gm, This will fill that need.
Faithful implementation.
