THIS IS NOT PACMAN. It looks like it but it is not. This is a sliding puzzle game - there are 100 levels. That sounds easy right? - Wrong. Its a sliding puzzle game with obstacles that are out to kill you and ruin your day. (if you look at a screen shot - if its orange, red, moves, or looks at you funny it wants to kill you. Who is this game for? Do you want to challenge yourself? - Yes. Do you want to bash your controller/keyboard because you died 3 moves away from the objective - yes. Do you want to feel immensely satisfied at beating a level - yes. Great. This is for you. The game is a challenge, with a sense of timing, planning and logical thinking you can succeed. Go for that Perfect, do the level as fast as you can - challenge yourself to get a high score. On another note if your not in it for the challenge - the game is worth buying for the soundtrack alone which you play with the music player. This is not an easy game. This is not a game which will hand hold you. You have been warned.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-ClWBHi6cQ It's Cyberpunk day! Though this is unrelated, there is the cyberpunk theme with the visuals and the music. It is a great and challenging puzzle game where you go through stages moving your avatar linearly, collecting orbs and avoiding obstacles reaching the end of the level. The difficulty of the game does also ramp up quite nicely as the earlier levels and stages start of rather simple where you learn the ropes. As it progresses, they become more complicated with more obstacles such as lasers, mines and walls that disintegrate you. The levels also increase in size which adds to the complexness. The music is wonderful with the various, catchy cyberpunk songs. A soundtrack for the game would cool to have to listen to during free time outside the game. Visuals are pretty good and pleasing with the vibrant and colourful neon lights throughout the stages. The game has multiple zones, each consisting with multiple stages with over 100 to go through.. As you progress through the levels, you do gain points which unlocks more avatars to use. It does have some replayability as well as you can repeat the stages without dying, completing as fast as possible, and collecting all the orbs within the stages to earn a higher score and better rating. There is also a split screen mode where it is playable with up to four people which is nice to have.

So much potential squandered... At it's heart, Cyber Protocol is meant to be the definitive way to experience Tomb Of The Mask on PC. However, it falls short in so many ways. One of the reasons why Tomb Of The Mask is so compelling is that as you improve at the game, you can play at a really fast pace. Provided that you now have keyboard controls as opposed to swipe gestures, you'd expect to be able to play incredibly fast. However, Cyber Protocol gives a much slower movement speed to the player, meaning that your play speed is gated by how slowly the character moves. It creates an incredibly unsatisfying and clunky feeling, and that sense of speed was the core of what made Tomb Of The Mask so good. Sure, it does have some form of input buffering which helps, but this issue becomes really apparent when you're trying to make 3 quick movements in a row in a small space like a corner as the buffer only seems to hold one additional key. Another huge complaint is the lack of clarity with the visuals. For a game that's meant to be played at a fast pace, you would expect clear visuals to enable players to process things quicker. TOTM is another stellar example of how to do it right. Their effective use of limited color palettes makes it easy to see what's going on. Cyber Protocol tries to do too much with it's more complex visuals and post-processing, creating an overload of information which counteracts the supposed fast gameplay loop. Another issue with CyberProtocol is that it puts WAY too much information on the UI. There's so much unnecessary information on the menus that would be much better situated in sub-menus. It's hard to know where to even look and navigate on first glance. For a game as simple as Cyber Protocol, this is a big no-no. My last complaint is that it's locked at 60FPS, and having 144FPS on a game as fast as this seems like a no-brainer. Not sure why they opted for the FPS lock, but my guess is that this was made on an engine like GameMaker and the developers didn't make use of delta time to regulate the game speed. If you really want to experience TOTM on PC, you're better off just emulating it. Even with the slight input delay on an emulator it still feels more responsive.
One of best puzzle game!!! Hack level 100!!!
Cyber Protocol is a simple arcade game requiring swift movement. Your goal in each of these small levels is to dodge all the obstacles and reach the exit. It's one of those games where explaining the goal is much easier than actually completing the task. This game is challenging! Skillful movements alone aren't going to get let you finish Cyber Protocol. You must also plan your moves if you want to get through the level. Although not as much planning is required if you only want to get to the exit. But if you want to collect all the bonuses or collect one hundred percent of the coins then you'll need a route which takes some thinking. When I went back to previous levels to collect the bonuses I took my time and thought out every move. I was able to nab them all. It does get easier the more you play though. The game only requires you to be quick in certain areas, not the whole level, so stopping to give yourself a moment to think is useful. It's even better if you memorize the level which you will do as you make mistake after mistake trying to get through a tricky area. Overall, Cyber Protocol a really well-done arcade game with a strong theme. I like a good challenge and the game certainly delivers. Cyber Protocol has crazy level designs but the responsive controls make them possible. You don't need to be amazing with a controller since the square moves by simple inputs. So if you like fast challenging gameplay where you have to restart over and over and over then Cyber Protocol is one of the good ones. Disclaimer: My scores/reviews are almost always based on having bought the game at close to the "lowest historical price" on steam at time of purchase. Quick score: 4/5 Notes: A cyberpunk sliding puzzle action speedrun game? I have no idea how the ♥♥♥♥ this combination works but it does lmao. This game is super underrated. At the time of this review its on sale for only 2$, don't question it just buy it right now. My main complaint with the game is that the "cycles" of the various hazards on the level can be very frustrating. There are several levels where you have to wait up to 20+ seconds for the cycles to line up correctly which can be incredibly annoying, this doesnt really become much of an annoyance until near the end of the game. I ended up rage quitting on the final level because it takes this annoyance to the ultimate extreme. Outside of this though, the game is decently fun. This could be fixed if they simply "tightened" up the cycle times a bit and made sure that the various hazards synced up at regular intervals. Unfortunately there are several situations where they can be just slightly off sync and can take ages to finally loop back around.

great game
With the Steam Deck now a reality, I feel like Cyber Protocol deserves another shake, especially by players on the go. I can't say whether or not this will work on it, but I can't imagine it doesn't since it's simple, lightweight, and absolutely perfect for handheld. I should know because I have put crazy hours into this game on my Switch where I got it for pennies. That said, the game is still excellent even for desktop surfers looking for an excellent, mind-bogglingly challenging puzzle game. Despite looking like a Pac-Man style game wrapped in 80s neon cyberpunk robes, you'd be forgiven for immediately thinking that this is some kitschy piece of crap that cares more about its style than its play and this could not be further from the truth. In fact, forgetting the character art - it really only shows up in the intro - the game deliberately leans hard into the cyberpunk hacking aesthetic, cleverly using it to drive you nuts without feeling like anything is out of place. Let me clarify. At its base, the game is a sliding puck puzzle that you've probably encountered before where you press in one direction and the puck keeps going until it hits something. Your job, then, is to navigate 100 digital mazes as a form of 'hacking' in Cyber Protocol's retro future and at the most basic level, your goal is simply to get to the other side. This is relatively easy enough, even with all of the devious traps the developers have laid out for you, but the real challenge is to get a perfect run. The dots themselves are rather inconsequential (they're worth points, of course) as the real goal is to gather all of them before you exit... without dying. There's checkpoints, of course, and you can absolutely use them to grab all of the dots and the bonus tiles, but unless you restart your run from scratch and zip through without a single death, the game won't reward you with that badge of honor that says "Perfect" when you reach the score screen. There's two reactions to this which are perfectly valid, of course. [olist] [*] "That sounds ridiculous and I don't want to do it." [*] "No game is better than I am. I need to prove that I will absolutely own the nuts out of this game!" [/olist] If you fall into that second category in some form or another, then this game will put your thinking to the test and the difficulty ramps up and up and up as the devs get trickier and trickier. Like I said before, the game leans hard into its setting and all of the traps and gadgets your puck can run into or be killed by are absolutely fitting. Laser beams, teleporters, sticky blocks, death blocks, evil walls and all sorts of other things act as perfectly normal "ICE" devices that you might have read about in old cyberpunk fiction. In reality, they are absolutely clever traps and level design elements that really test your puzzle solving skills. Sure, with enough time and trial and error, you will eventually grab that "Perfect" badge yet the endorphins that slam into your brain after solving a particularly tricky map are so satisfying regardless of how many times you tried it. For a long time now, game development has been about carrying the player ever so gently to the finish line and congratulating them with a pat on the head when they do so, but Cyber Protocol recalls the days of Us vs. Them, player vs. developer, yet not in an unfair way. It's not about stealing your quarters or selling you hint books, but it's very much about RedDeer proudly crossing their arms with each new level and challenging you to defy them. It's wonderful, it's clever, and it's an absolute brain teaser. Even having spent countless hours on the Switch, going back to the earlier levels still wracks my brain sometimes as I forget the tricks and the timing to get through each map. In my head I thought I would simply breeze by given what I've already experienced, but nope, I got hamstrung somewhere in the first 20 levels and had to go, "How in the hell did I do this before?" It's been fun revisiting this game and I highly recommend it to any puzzle enthusiast. It truly deserves more attention than it's ever had.
