CURSE, developed and published by Stormlord Games LLC, is a narrative-focused paranormal investigation game that blends classic point-and-click adventure mechanics with elements of supernatural horror. Rather than relying heavily on action or survival mechanics, the game centers on exploring a haunted mansion, piecing together clues, and slowly uncovering the truth behind a mysterious curse that has plagued the property for generations. Designed with a deliberate pacing and investigative structure, CURSE attempts to recreate the experience of stepping into the role of a paranormal investigator confronting an environment filled with unsettling history and restless spirits. The story takes place in Atherton Manor, a large and aging mansion that has earned a reputation as one of the most haunted locations in its region. Over the course of more than a century, the estate has been linked to numerous unexplained deaths, disappearances, and paranormal sightings. These events have fueled rumors that the mansion is cursed, with spirits of former residents still haunting its halls. The player arrives at the manor to investigate these claims and attempt to uncover the source of the supernatural disturbances. As the investigation progresses, it becomes clear that the mansion’s dark reputation is not simply the result of rumors or folklore, but rather a complex web of tragedies and hidden secrets buried within its walls. Gameplay unfolds through exploration and investigation rather than combat-heavy encounters. The player navigates the manor room by room, examining objects, reading notes left behind by previous residents, and uncovering clues that gradually reveal the history of the house. Each room contains environmental details that contribute to the narrative, from personal letters and journals to photographs and forgotten belongings that hint at the lives of those who once lived there. The story emerges gradually through these discoveries, encouraging players to observe their surroundings carefully and piece together the mystery through small fragments of information. Movement within the mansion follows a structured point-and-click system. Instead of freely walking through the environment, players move between specific points in each room by selecting interactive icons. These icons represent locations that can be explored or objects that can be examined. While this design may feel somewhat restrictive compared to modern first-person exploration games, it echoes the style of classic adventure titles and helps guide players through the investigation without overwhelming them with too many navigation options. Although the majority of the gameplay focuses on exploration and puzzle solving, the mansion is not entirely safe. Hostile supernatural entities occasionally appear during the investigation, creating moments of tension that interrupt the otherwise methodical exploration. When these spirits manifest, the player must defend themselves using a specialized ultraviolet flashlight capable of weakening or driving away paranormal threats. The flashlight also serves a dual purpose as a tool for exploration, illuminating dark areas of the manor and revealing hidden details that would otherwise remain unseen. The puzzles scattered throughout the manor often involve deciphering clues left behind by the mansion’s former occupants. These challenges require players to interpret notes, examine objects, and sometimes manipulate elements of the environment to unlock new areas or reveal additional pieces of the story. The puzzles are generally straightforward and designed to maintain the pace of the investigation rather than to present complex logical challenges. Their primary purpose is to deepen the player’s understanding of the mansion’s history while gradually guiding them toward the truth behind the curse. Visually, CURSE presents its environments through a fully three-dimensional perspective that allows players to look around each room while interacting with the environment through contextual icons. The interior of Atherton Manor is designed to evoke the classic imagery of haunted houses, featuring dimly lit corridors, creaking staircases, antique furniture, and rooms that appear frozen in time. Flickering lights and shadow-filled corners help create an atmosphere of unease as players move deeper into the mansion’s interior. While the graphical fidelity may not rival large-budget horror games, the art direction effectively captures the eerie mood required for a supernatural investigation. The sound design plays an important role in sustaining the game’s tension. Ambient noises such as distant footsteps, whispering winds, and creaking floorboards contribute to the sense that the mansion is never truly empty. These subtle sounds create a constant feeling of unease, suggesting that unseen forces may be watching the player’s movements. When supernatural encounters occur, the audio shifts to more intense cues that heighten the sense of danger and urgency. One of the strongest aspects of CURSE is its commitment to storytelling through environment and discovery. Rather than relying on long cinematic cutscenes, the game allows players to uncover the narrative organically by exploring the mansion and reading the documents left behind by its former inhabitants. This approach makes the investigation feel personal, as each new clue adds another piece to the larger mystery. However, the game’s design also presents a few limitations. The icon-based navigation system can occasionally feel restrictive, particularly for players accustomed to modern exploration games that allow full freedom of movement. Additionally, because the story follows a largely linear progression, there is limited replay value once the mystery has been solved. The puzzles themselves, while thematically appropriate, may also feel somewhat simple for players seeking more complex challenges. Despite these drawbacks, CURSE succeeds in delivering an atmospheric paranormal mystery that emphasizes investigation and storytelling over fast-paced horror mechanics. Its deliberate pacing and focus on uncovering the past create a sense of immersion that encourages players to approach the game as an investigative journey rather than a traditional horror experience. Overall, CURSE is a solid indie horror adventure that appeals most strongly to players who enjoy slow-burning mysteries and exploration-based gameplay. While it may lack the depth and mechanical complexity of larger titles in the genre, it compensates with an engaging atmosphere and a narrative that unfolds gradually through discovery. For those interested in haunted house investigations and classic adventure game design, CURSE provides a memorable and eerie experience. Rating: 7/10

This game is a classic that I revisit at least once a year. I remember a few years back, during Halloween, they added Haunted Mansion wallpaper and jack-o-lanterns everywhere—it was such a fun touch! While it feels more linear now than I remember, the plot is still great, and the flashlight mechanics add a nice bit of action. Overall, it's a solid game with excellent replay value.
Terribly slow and cheesy. I couldnt go on any longer.
Um terror em point-and-click que traz muita lerdeza e sono e bastande jump-scare barato mal feito
