🌎 Overview 🌏
The game is a frustrating slog that thankfully does not take very long to complete. It is a shame because this game has some fun ideas, none of them are executed well unfortunately. Only buy this game on a deep sale for its coop. These items are weapon, helmet, cape, ring, and shield if the player is interested in a sword and board playstyle. Items are bought with gold earned by playing the campaign or the minigames. Items get progressively stronger the further into the campaign the player gets. Weapons provide attack while armor, capes, and shields provide defense. Rings provide bonuses to certain aspects such as movement speed or the amount of gold received at the end of a campaign mission. Weapons come in two varieties, one-handed and two-handed. Items can also be upgraded with the battle tokens that are received alongside the gold. Normal weapons can be upgraded three times only while legendary weapons can be upgraded higher than the max rank weapon that can be bought. I didn’t especially like how the game didn’t tell me what counted as a legendary item. I thought I would get it from loot, but I only got standard loot from ranking up. The legendary items it is referring to would be the ones with bonus skills, but I only discovered this by accident so it should definitely be made more prominent. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2182628936 Skills In addition to the powers provided by some of the weapons available at the blacksmith the player eventually gains access to four abilities with one ability coming from four categories. The first ability is a movement ability and it is essential to get power-ups. The best movement skill, from my testing, is unlocked at the beginning of the game. This is a bit of a problem with the other abilities. I only ever changed one ability to be a free heal. Additional power-ups are gained when the player ranks up. They are rather expensive, and as mentioned before, don’t provide a lot of benefits over the originally gained abilities. Gems Items eventually get sockets. The higher level the item, the more slots it will have. There are four kinds of gems to socket and they all have different effects based upon which piece of equipment they are socket into. The attack based bonuses occur when placed in the weapon whereas monetary or experience bonuses happen when socketed into a ring. Combat & Powerups Combat is the main focus of gameplay. The main mode to fight enemies is the campaign. The combat is really shallow and it gets boring quickly. This is because enemies will swarm you immediately and then the gameplay simply becomes kiting them around and holding the attack button. If there are ranged enemies the player simply has to run around and hit them while kiting enemies in a wide circle. Every once in a while, the player uses an ability, but it often outclassed by simply normal attacking enemies. It also doesn’t help that enemies are extremely tanky and only get tankier as one progresses through a world. This makes levels take too long and makes them feel more like padding instead of actual content. Each world also has a status effect gimmick that makes it so frustrating to complete. The first world has damage over time effects of fire. The second world focuses on poison which can stack multiple times. The third world is the most infuriating because it focuses on stunning the player which makes deaths feel cheap. The final world doesn’t use gimmicks which is nice. As for the difference between one-handed weapons and two-handed weapons, there isn’t really a meaningful one. The boon of using a shield is that projectiles can be deflected. There aren’t enough projectiles to make it worthwhile and the weapons do nearly a third of the damage a two-handed weapon does which in turn makes the tanky enemies even worse to deal with. The last part of combat is that is more of a disappointment would be that enemies doing damage to one another isn’t really explored enough. I would have loved to see a kick ability given near the start of the game that would allow for more utilization of the traps. Enemies Enemy variety is rather low. This makes all of the worlds feel samey. That is not to say that the enemies reused don’t have new abilities, because they do and it makes them more formidable. It simply feels like recycling. This occurs quite a bit at the end of the game as some of the enemies aren’t changed such as the very large rock creatures that nearly one-shot the player. Bosses Bosses are a test of patience. They have a ton of health and the player does so little damage to them. This is further compounded by the fact that half of the bosses in the game have a healing mechanic that makes them even more miserable to fight. Mini-Games The mini-games feel like padding and aren’t interesting enough to keep playing. This is mainly due to the fact that they are simply endlessly replayable versions of the campaign.
📚 Story 📚
I was surprised by how little story this game has. The player is a from a species of cuboid people. The player is however a circle due to some mutation. He was thus sold by his family to a gladiator arena where the player’s ball shaped avatar must survive.
🎧 Sound 🎧
The music is pretty repetitive and quickly was turned off. The sounds are decent and have a nice and satisfying crunch upon impact with an enemy. WEnemy audio feedback is rather lacking as they make the noise as they attack instead of prior which doesn’t allow for a lot of reaction time.
📺 Graphics 📺
The graphics are really enjoyable. They are a bit cartoonish and they use a three-dimensional style with a lack of shading that makes contrasting colors pop. This helps with the player’s character as it makes them stand out from the crowd of enemies. The items are all well modeled and change the appearance of the player’s character which is a nice touch. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2182628283
⌨ Controls ⌨
The control scheme for a controller work well. Enemies would teleport around and so would my player character. I also had my player character get stuck inside of enemies more than once. This often occurred with enemies that jumped or the boss that erupts from the ground.
💰 Replayability & Price to Content Ratio 💰
The campaign lasts about 6 hours and the mini-games aren’t especially interesting. This makes the replayability rather low as well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2182628552 PrCR: 0.33x - Bad
🌟 Overall 🌟
👍 Pros 👍 Complete couch co-op experience 👎 Cons 👎 Short campaign Uninteresting mini-games Shallow Combat

Gameplay 4/10

Story 2/10

Controls 7/10

Sound 5/10

Graphics 8/10

Game Length 4/10

👑 Final Rating: 5 👑
Cubers is a really fun game with a surprising amount of depth. Today was my day off when I happened upon this game in the new releases, and I thought I'd give it a go because I love arena games. So far it has been a pleasant ride. The game plays and feels like your usual ARPG, with a ton of different skills, items socketable with gems, and fluid combat controls. Things can feel a little tough when you get to bosses, as it was for my first boss. So you might need to go back and grind for an arena level or two. Also the music is really great, I really love the atmosphere here and it sucks me into another world! Overall, an unexpected diamond in the rough for indie games PS: the monitor brightness slider at the beginning of the game threw me off! I had to adjust it again after hitting the menu in the settings
Really, really good game for couch gaming with friends, but single player mode it's good too. :) I really like rpg elements, original graphics, when our character is unique in this universum :) I have amazing fun with this game! Must have for indie players :)

Pierwsze wersje pozbawione były wielu animacji, detali graficznych, cieni i obiektów.
Cubers : Arena is a hack’n’slash set on in little arena were you’re goal is to survive many foes for become more powerful and obtain new power and equipment Graphics (6.5 / 10) : The shader effect and foe design are quite simple, with many “cubic” form, but this is suffisant for get a good atmosphere, the graphics are ok without being wonderful Four differents arenas with four different atmosphere (day, night, rain, fog) are presents. Gameplay (8 / 10) : Fast paced hack’n’slash, good number of skills (24) and many different foes to kill with some special patern and way to kill them, two type of gameplay (one handed sword + shield, more defensive gameplay, and two handed sword, more offensive gameplay), each win give you money,xp and tokens for upgrading you’re equipement or bought new one, get new skills or enchanted you’re stuff. There also trap in the battlefield that could help you to kill the enemy (or kill you youreself) The game is also full playable with a gamepad, alone or with a friend (two playerwith only local multiplayer) There also 4 difficulty levels (easy, medium, hard and extreme (extreme is lock in the beginning)) The only negative point is that enemy don’t drop equipment, there any loot in the game. Price / Life time (6.5 / 10) : The game cost 15 € / 15 $ . The main carrer mode have at last 36 levels in it, there also good replayability because enemy get at you’re level when you come back to earlier level (it is easy to farm in this game), the game have also bonus mode such a challenge in one player mode and mini-games for two players mode. The time before finish the game and get to the level cap (Level 40 minimum, maybe more) is around 6 to 8+ hours depending of the difficulty and the way of playing (get to level 8 in one hour) Miscellanous [Story / Music / Optimisation] (6 / 10) : Story : The story is quite simple, kill all 4 bosses in each arena for gain you’re liberty, quite simple but there any side quest in the game, the main goal is to complete levels for get new stuff and complete harder levels. Music : The music are ok, with all sound effect in the battle, just no awesome music in it. Optimisation : Don’t get any problem at this point (played on a i5, 8 Go RAM, 2 Go VRAM), no freeze and played on full resolution Conclusion : Cubers : Arena is a original hack’n’slash create for fast paced gameplay with a lack of story for only focus on the gameplay, If the story and the loot system is not so important for you, you should really try it. + : Fast paced gameplay Arena Atmosphere & Cubics design Quick evolution of you’re character Full playable with a gamepad and with a friend - : No archer / mage gameplay Quick repetitive Lack of story / side quest No loot system Final note : 6.8 / 10
i will recommend this game if bugs in 4th chapter will repair. - sometimes dragon slides over area when i use slap skill and it is [dragon] breathing. - 4.8 - i cant beat second wave. area is cleaned but new wave wont start. (i think that some opponents fall dawn from arena)
