Survivors like, but similar to Path of Achra or ToMe in terms of buildcrafting. Gameplay depth is great, and I kinda dig the vibe. GFX are fugly, but that's okay. My only gripe is that the green grass looks smudgy in motion, and that the first five biomes look all the same, like some dark forest. The difficulty is high, you can easily screw your run by taking bad answer in event (illusions of powerful enemies, lol) and level #3 (or 4? ), called the river of illusions, is some serious DPS check. Game also needs some QoL - for example, you can get pointers to POI, but they are on timer (which is not shown) and the distance to them is also not shown - so you can spend precious time walking to a POI that disappears along the way. Monster variability can also be better. In terms of content, the game has enough. Kinda concerned that some of the roadmap features target multiplayer, with game being so niche it will be a complete miss - more singleplayer content would be much better. Really hope this does not get abandoned.
I’ve put 56 hours into Crucible of the Forgotten and I finally beat 7/7 difficulty. This game has way more depth than you’d expect at first glance. The spell aspects, talents, and item synergies actually matter, and every run feels different depending on how you build. It’s not brainless wave clearing. You really have to think about scaling, positioning, and long-term decisions. When a build finally comes together and carries you through higher difficulties, it feels insanely rewarding. Also, big respect to the dev. He’s super friendly and active on Discord, listens to feedback, fixes bugs quickly, and keeps adding new content. You can tell he genuinely cares about the game and the community, which makes supporting it in Early Access feel good. If you like roguelites with real build depth and an active developer who actually improves the game, I’d definitely recommend it. 56 hours in and I’m still playing.
I'm in heaven. The modifers on my modifiers on my modifiers have modifiers. But I actually know what they all do because the UI tells you everything. And they do such cool things! I had a spell which echoed itself 8 times when cast. A single one of it's half dozen perk choices let me choose between making it do more damage in a bigger area each time it echoed, or letting it get a free bonus echo whenever it killed something, up to a cap of it's echoing stat. And that's one spell out of like 50. There's so much stuff to explore for character builds in this game it's insane.
Top notch game, plenty of combos available. The only annoying thing is no clarity on boss damage reduction, there is some hidden mechanic that reduces damage they take the more damage you do, so scaling ultra hard damage is less effective vs more survivability things to improve: more information about debuffs that you get codex available in game so you dont have to constantly go to menu
Excellent addition to the survivors like genre, with actually working multiplayer and the ability to make meaningful and sometimes game breaking builds. Highly recommended.
this is a really strong start. i think the upgrades can be a little tedious to go through but the end result is a really interactive mix and match system with a lot of very well designed and well thought out skills and combinations. ill update once im more hours in, but i play a lot of roguelites in this kind of style and this does a lot of things better than most
Survival Like but more Character build focus. Single player - certain builds will carry you. Other builds, you'll brick and die a horrible fun death. Multiplayer - extremely fun, but you'll need to be patient with your slower friends (if no one comes to mind - you're the slower friend). Builds are super complex because the vast variables. You'll need to understand which spells goes into which equipment, which spell combos with others, how to level each spell, and (probably most importantly) balance survival with dps. I would recommend going quickness stat for mobility as getting to events and temples help a ton.
The best part fo the game has to be the modifiyers on top of modifiyers. WOW, this is giving me tales of majail with a much more advanced version of vampire surviores combined. Really cool features I love, being able to save a character after you die so you can look at what worked well for your highest level runs. What gear, what modifiyers, and what items, everything is saved. Level transition could use some work, they kinda very samey. Enemies are very fast moving, or at least it feels like that until you level up a few times. Seems like a nessesatiy to progress, gotta level up movement speed or die realy early. DESPERATLY NEEDS TO ADD MANUAL AIM. ALL AUTO SHOOT? Will update. It wont register my controller unless I have it on before booting the game up. DAMN, this developer cares, A LOT. Considers user/players input and works hard to fix any issues.
I think this game is incredible. The build options are very diverse, and I have barely gotten started.
Great multiplayer survivor game. Has very fun buildcrafting.
