Crossword City Chronicles
There’s some enjoyment to be had in this crossword hybrid but ultimately it is too repetitive and there are far too many bugs for a recommendation.
The first thing to note is that this game has a serious bug and a few minor bugs which will stop you from progressing in the story. Nobody should be recommending this game until they are fixed. If you want to complete this game it becomes very difficult later on due to these bugs and you’ll be struggling to muster enough stars to continue.
You are an investigative journalist reporting on crimes and helping the Police solve cases. Using your word building skills you place letters on a grid scoring points and earning enough stars to progress. By interviewing, interrogating, convincing, deceiving & debating you will reveal the culprit behind the crime.

Overall Impressions🤔
If it wasn’t for the bugs, I would probably be recommending this title. Bugs include the story not progressing or updating, but this can be fixed by coming out of the case and back in again; Sometimes whole levels do not unlock meaning you will miss out on fifteen stars which could be crucial to carrying on; In debate the bombs occasionally do not appear which makes it extremely hard to progress, again losing valuable stars and in deceive the second word never appears. As gaining stars is the fundamental way of progressing the story and continuing the game, I suspect that in later levels you will not be able to carry on as there will be no more options to earn stars and unlock levels. There are five different types of word game to play and these are repeated throughout each case. I really liked the idea of having a progressive story running through the game. Although each case is different and separate, there are links to other cases and other Characters. After completing a dozen cases or so you start to get to know the characters and their personalities which is unusual in a word game. The cases are interesting enough to pursue but there is no detective work involved. Eventually you will solve the case. It is just a matter of how long it will take. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a detective game as it is not. The detective angle is just a vehicle to drive the story along. It is purely a crossword game with five varieties of crossword. This is rinsed and repeated thirty times. It would have been nice to be able to swap letters in forfeit of a turn and have blank letters but these options were not present. The grid only ever produced double word tiles and not double or triple word or letter squares. There is no challenge in the game at all. It is very easy. You can repeat the same interview as many times as you like until you earn enough stars to progress. If you are good at crosswords then you’ll just earn the stars quicker. Some of the games do have a minimum score to reach but the bar is so low it rarely offers a test of any kind. The game looks very nice with well-drawn characters and colourful backgrounds. The characters are quite stereotypical but the artwork does a good job of portraying emotion. There is no voice acting. Stories are told by text bubbles and static images. I think the music and special effects could be improved. I would have liked to have seen more bells and whistles. You get a rating for each word placed whether it be okay, good, excellent or amazing but you get no sound along with the visual congratulations. If I score an amazing word, I want a fanfare! There is also a tune which repeats over and over throughout the game which never changes and although melodic is annoying.

Crossword City Chronicles is a competent crossword game which is severely hampered if not ruined by bugs. It will prevent you from finishing the game in the latter stages. It’s a shame as there is a lot to like about the game. Character development in a word game is unusual and the stories, although brief, are charming and interesting. The graphics are detailed and colourful and the characters are larger than life. After fifteen hours I’m just realizing that the bugs are going to affect the game so there is still some enjoyment before you hit a brick wall. I still wouldn’t recommend it until they’re fixed though and it looks like the developers aren’t that active.

Gameplay🕹️
Crossword City Chronicles is a crossword game where you place tiles on a grid already populated by words. If you have ever played Scrabble then you will know what to expect. You are a reporter helping the police solve crimes. You need to interview, interrogate, debate, convince and sometimes deceive suspects to get the story. Each method is a slightly different crossword game. Interview involves fitting your pre-determined letters onto the grid populated by two words. There are double word tiles which when used will double your score. There is no minimum score to achieve and this can be repeated as many times as you like until you reach five stars. Interrogation is the same grid but some squares are hidden in the shadows. By creating words near the hidden tiles, they are revealed. You have to reveal a certain number of tiles to progress. Debate is where you have a four-by-four grid of letters where two bombs are present. You have to fit one of your letters on to the grid. If the word you produce contains a bomb, it will explode and count all the letters it takes with it. The explosion might cause new words to be formed which are also counted on your score. This is definitely the hardest game to complete as it does rely on luck a lot and without the bombs almost impossible to win. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2383864410 To complete convince you need to reach a certain number of points in a specified number of turns. Occasionally, you will need to deceive suspects and trick them into confessions. This involves linking two words together in a certain number of turns. This game was completely bugged and only once produced two words. Just make a word or link two words together to reach the last arrow on the grid. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2388484290 Very rarely, you’ll also need to make decisions about how you treat characters in the game. Do you reveal your sources or do you hire a character to help you for example? Playing a game where you place tiles on one side or the other side will make that decision. Decisons can alter the story arc very slightly. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2384159424 On the grid are also coins which when collected can be spent on hiring informants. When you reach a certain level of an informant the letter, they represent is increased in value by one, then two etc.… and can help you score more points.

Graphics 📺
Graphics are colourful and the characters are very well drawn and represented. The crossword grid is easy on the eye and tiles are big and easily seen.
Sound 🎵
Sound could be improved. An annoying tune repeats forever and there are not enough special effect noises.

Conclusion🍳

Crossword City Chronicles is a nice word game severely let down by bugs which I am not sure will ever get fixed. The game is still playable up to a point but I don’t believe you’ll be able to play every case due to the bugs present. If this doesn’t deter you then there is an enjoyable word game to play with some unusual character developments and interesting plotlines. Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
Starting a new game, you will have the option to play as a Female or Male investigative reporter. Whoever you decide to play as you’ll need to speak to Mrs. Elaine Jones who has your first investigation details. She has asked you to look into the disappearance of the Extravaganza Ruby. There is a suspect but there is no proof to prove they stole the Ruby, even your boss Frank hasn’t been able to find any proof. So, it's up to you to investigate the suspect, a Marcel Robichaux, aka Marcel the Cat and find the proof required to put this criminal behind bars and return the Extravaganza Ruby. To solve the case, you will need to find out the Who, What and Where. Each case has a number of folders where you can interview characters or look for clues to help you solve each crime. Finding clues may unlock new folders for you to investigate for more clues and possible culprits. Your first port of call is to find information on the missing Ruby by interviewing Marcel the Cat, the main suspect in its disappearance. Marcel is confident that no evidence points to him as the one who has stolen the precious gem. Selecting the folder Marcel, the Cat will open the game screen where a nine-by-nine squared board. On the game board there are already a couple words spelled out. You will then start with some square tile letters which you’ll use to make more words on the game board. On each letter is a number, these numbers will add up each legitimate word you place on the board to give you a score. You will have a certain number of turns to score as many points as possible. As you collect points, they will go towards unlocking Stars, there are Five Stars in which to unlock. As you unlock the stars, you’ll uncover clues and information which will help unlock new folders. Collecting the stars will allow you to use them to help gain some information, clues and activities. You can then figure out the Who, What and Where and report your findings in the Crossword City Chronicles. There are a couple other game types, one where you must place words on the game board as you would before, however, the words you create don’t gain any points. Instead, you must reveal a number of new spaces around the words placed on the board. The more spaces you reveal the more golden cups you’ll receive (One to Three). Another is where you must make a decision by placing words in either the Red or Green areas of the board. All game types require you to create words in some way and you’ll play them through each crime you report. I have enjoyed playing Crossword City Chronicles, it’s easy and relaxing to play. I have had a few problems with the game, sometimes when moving a tile to the board it would not move and become stuck above the other tiles along the bottom of the screen. Other problems I have had are new folders not revealing themselves even though I have 100% completed the others, to fix this I would have to leave the game and restart it, this would be the same fix for the tile error. These aren’t game breaking problems but they did happen quite regularly. Positives + Easy and relaxing to play + Nice artwork + Steam cloud + Has achievements Negatives - Few bugs - No cards currently As a reporter use your investigative and word building skills to solve crimes in the Crossword City Chronicles 7/10
Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes via THE CPT FROGGY CLUB! The game has a really nice idea to combine word puzzle with investigation, ... But currently there are some downsides, that hopefully will be fixed in the future. Pros: 1. Nice overall idea 2. Relaxing music Cons: 1. The translation to german is not good, especially with the plural endings. 2. Even the english version accepts words, that does not exist (e.g. "saba") and vice versa. 3. The tutorial is to small and do not explain every rule (e.g. you can lay 4 letters as a square and get points) I will review the game again, sometime in the future, but as for now, I cannot recommend it.
The name doesn't really describe the game properly, but this is a fun little vocabulary game that combines boggle and Scrabble with a few other mini games. it feels like it was once a cell phone freemium game, but I can confirm that there is no nickel and diming with micro-transactions here. You get everything here for under five bucks. There are thirty levels to complete and each one will take 30 minutes to an hour to complete. So you're getting an RPG length casual game for about the price of a movie rental. It's definitely something worth monkeying around with when you don't have the time to put into Pillars of Eternity or a game with uncommon save points where you could lose all your progress if you have to up and leave. This isn't a GOTY by any means, but you will get your money's worth out of it.

No es ningún spoiler.

HISTORIA
As the journalist in the game, you are going around the town to investigate 30 different crime cases. It seems there is only one journalist in the town, and the other one is just busy criticising your work. The entire game has the same characters that commit multiple crimes, but only one journalist can solve the cases and is so powerful that he or she can even arrange police protection for some witnesses. Criminals will go to jail, but they will commit another crime after being released and later related to other cases or commit another crime. I felt terrible for the secretary who keeps losing her job after talking to me. Although it is called crosswords, the puzzles are more like Scrabble, which doesn’t require you to build words related to the cases. You need to make longer words or use the tile with 2x to earn more points to get a star. The star is to use to unlock the next stage, such as talking to another person involved in the case. You only have a certain number of turns and sometimes, only limited of time to get as many points as you can. You don’t have to get all stars to unlock the next stage in the case as long as you have at least one star. However, you need to have the required number of stars to unlock the next case or level. Sometimes, you might get stuck in the case without any new stages available to proceed. Then, you have to exit the case screen and return to the same case, and the next stage will be available now. There is nothing spectacular that I can think of about this game. The entire game is based on Scrabble, and you just build words to move forward to the next stage. If you like word puzzles or Scrabble and investigations, you will enjoy playing 30 levels by just doing that. The cases are interesting, but it can be boring for some people as the methods are repetitive throughout the entire game. Towards the last five to ten cases, I just skip through the dialogues because I really want to finish the game faster.
Addiictive and not what I expected! Would recommend
