Arthur & Susan: Almost Detectives

This point and click detective game was such a treat! The art work was bright and cheerful. The story comprises three cases that are interconnected for the two new detectives. The story made sense, puzzles were part of the story and were logical, and the dialogue was very often funny and made me smile. Manual saves, which is always good. For game length, quality and fun factor, this game was absolutely well worth the reasonable price of the game. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I bought this, but I was very pleasantly surprised at how much fun I had playing. I would love to see more mysteries for Susan and Arthur to solve!

Arthur & Susan: Almost Detectives is a fun little adventure, featuring colorful graphics and a no less colorful cast. You'll talk to a bunch of funny characters in your quest to solve a series of misteries. The dialogues are nicely written and the story achieves to keep a cozy, light tone overall. There are many inventory puzzles in the style of classic point and click adventure games. It's also not very long, which I consider positive. Highly recommended if you're looking for some lighthearted, comedic detective fun.

Another point-and-click adventure from Spain. Cartoony, clean-line art style which I didn't particularly like, but the bold and bright colors were nice. The details on the characters were minimal. I'm pretty sure that look hurt the sales. No animations, static pictures for the characters who don't move in the area, but lots of poses and/or expressions, but I didn't mind so much in the end. I enjoyed the dialogues as they were often silly and ridiculous as well as the dual viewpoints of the detectives. Lots of item combinations which I liked, but more so in case 1. Case 3 turned more into a dialogue fest. Several locations and characters were reused in cases 2 and 3 so don't except completely new material there. The interface was workable but a bit awkward, removing the need to associate an inventory item with the right thing in the scene, making things much easier but less fun for me. I really liked how you could accuse different people, no matter how ludicrous, and the dialogues went with it. As well as finding the opportunity, means and motive. It was only made so elaborate in case 1, not the others unfortunately. Frame rate was all over the place and I don't know why because this was not demanding in any way. I didn't like the sound effects when dialogue lines appeared, but that was a minor annoyance. Very dialogue intensive. Almost too much so in cases 2 and 3. However, I did appreciate the variety of quirky characters. Wrong pronouns used for Susan when she was accused and a few other similar mistakes later on. Puzzles were fair except for getting the tears in case 3, which I could never have gotten without a walkthrough. Despite the flaws, at the cheap price, you could do worse.

I had a really good time with this game. It's like a cozy mystery book turn into an adventure game. I got stuck a couple of times but I took a quick look at the walkthrough and problem solved!

Short but charming game. The dialogue was funny, and the progress was mostly intuitive but challenging at times. I'll say that in most cases it was obvious what had happened but it was hard to understand what to do to prove it. There is no Help button so at times I just clicked everything to see what did something, which felt a bit boring. And oftentimes the cases were over really quickly. It would be nice to have more cases in the future, a help button with vague hints, and maybe less repeated dialogue. There is an overarching mystery that you can kinda guess at while playing and it would have been nice to "solve" this as a case too, but it's just revealed at the end without intervention from the player. Feedback and Spoilers ahead: Case one [spoiler]It would have been nice to be able to do something with the recording and the fingerprint. At the end it felt like I was guessing who of the three had done it and the proof I needed was only an excuse.[/spoiler] Case two [spoiler]The bit about convincing the guy to study computer science was a bit weird and I only did it because I was going around trying everything. It didn't seem related at all. The dialogue could hint towards this a bit more.[/spoiler] Case three [spoiler]Again I only realised how to make the guy cry by trying everything. This was a bit boring because I was going in circles.[/spoiler]

Arthur & Susan: Almost Detectives is a mix of a point-and-click and a detective adventure. There's evidence to collect and witnesses and suspects to question, but also there are quite a few inventory puzzles, with some unavoidable amount of moon logic. Generally the game is not difficult at all, but sometimes it can be unclear what we should be doing next, and the game doesn't provide any hints in those situations. Besides, some things which look like hints can be somewhat misleading: a piece of evidence may seem important, a character may say something which sounds like a clue, or dialog lines may literally be accompanied by exclamation marks popping up, and then all that has no tangible outcome. The English translation was improved by a recent patch, but it's still far from ideal. As an example, a story about a family accidentally catching a burglar goes like this: "The owners were telling jokes and heard some laughter from the basement. He was the thief." Also there are some jokes based on puns which work only in Spanish, and apparently no one has even tried to translate those properly.

De pequeño era muy fan de las aventuras gráficas y este juego me ha hecho recordar viejos tiempos. Son tres casos de misterio (cozy mistery) que vas resolviendo. La verdad es que me he echado unas risas y lo he disfrutado bastante. Las tramas son buenas, los misterios están bien hilados y resueltos y los diálogos y personajes son divertidos e inteligentes.

Si bien lo recibí gratis, me gusto mucho, tiene un humor bastante tonto, pero para bien, ya que encaja perfecto con los dibujos y el tono del juego. Me tomo casi 5 horas resolver los 3 casos, que están conectados entre si y tienen una dificultad decente como para trabarse o perderse por momentos, aparte de estar repleto de detalles, chistes e incluso una canción inesperadamente graciosa. ¿Mencione que esta en español? Bueno, lo esta ¿que mas podemos pedir no?. 10/10 Ojala que saquen algún otro juego en un futuro.

Great characters! I specially enjoyed Juanita in the first case, Michael in the second, and Mr. Worthington in the final one. I got in the mood quite fast. I thought it was going to be a piece of cake, yet I found myself consulting the guide a few times. Nice work!

I really enjoyed this game. It's perfect for a stay at home weekend. If you like cozy mistery books and absurd humor, you're gonna love this. I solved one of the mysteries (the first one) with my nephew and he had so much fun! We got stuck two times but thanks Lord this game has a walkthrough. Overall, this is a cute little game with funny characters and dialogues and 3 great mysteries to get solved. Hope they make another one!
